Excellent price, thanks - heat added :D

For anyone interesed I just did a quick check on Amazon for all these books and the worst reviews is only 3 stars, the rest are all 3.5-4 - so for less than a pound a book well worth it... I have enough sci-fi geeks in my family for this to last a while as presents :D

ordered twice with these guys nefore xmas NOTHING arrived

they use a joke of a comapny for delivery a friend of mine found her books under a bush in her garden with no note from the driver
#5
wow seriously good 8) worth it just for one :)

have already got Matter but wanted the 1st 2 Void trilogy books by Hamilton

Clarke and Baxter should be good but know nowt about other 2

Unlucky tfish, I've used them twice before Xmas too but great delivery. Hot
#7
ok i'd make that 6 SF books as Dragonheart didn't sound SF and isn't :( still a very good deal though
#8
I can confirm that Matter by I. M. Banks is a good read. His SF work is different to his "normal" work

Does anyone know if these are paperbacks or hardbacks? Price suggests paperbacks, but the pictures and the fact that they say the RRP is £119.94 suggest hardbacks. Going to order them either way - can't beat £5 for 7 books!

I got matter and another thing before Christmas, and they were hardbacks [Matter was 1.49 at the time]

Based on the site I think they are likely to be either hardbacks or club editions. Club editions are basically just smaller versions of hardbacks.
#12
Yeah, sorry should have said the Matter [at least] was a BCA book [book club associates?]

Still, heat added, and ordered as the 2 Hamilton books would have been dearer than the set :-)

astonishing price - well found.

Great Price. Ordered and heat added.

They will be hardback club editions. Fine if you're just after them to read but if you're a collector or a bit of a bibliophile like me... :) Just so you know, the resale value on BCA books is next to nothing. If you ebayed them without mentioning that they're club editions you could seriously **** the buyer off.
#16
But yes, they are terrific titles. Banks and Hamilton are awesome writers, although I've never forgiven the latter his deus ex machina ending of the Night Dawn trilogy.

Nice deal hot from me

Yeah, the page for the collection of 7 books doesn't give their dimensions, but on the page for just Matter it says 206x137, so I was thinking that's either a trade paperback or book club edition hardback. I'm guessing the whole website is clearance for unsold book club books. Excellent value but yeah, I know what you mean about being a bibliophile.:p

Cheers for posting this, good deal.

Picked up another couple of books at the same time and the price of the 7 book deal went down to £0.00. It'll be interesting to see what happens there.
#20
Banks and Hamilton make this a good deal on their own. Can't speak for the others but -The Orphaned Worlds (Michael Cobley) is a cracking read but is the 2nd in a series, worth bearing in mind.

Mind you if you like space opera, and I guess you wouldn't be looking at this if you didn't, then buying this lot and getting the first book seperately would still be a good deal.
#21
Ordered this, but for some reason the confirmation email says price is 0. No idea what will happen there. They're still showing as available on the website though.
#22
Great deal, worth it for the Peter F. Hamilton & Iain M Banks books alone.

I've read the void books and Firstborn, still tempted to buy this set for Matter, as that will cost me more than £5 alone at most shops, then I can try the other authors.

Firstborn is a strange choice, as its the conclusion of a trilogy of books, they are all interlinked so would be best enjoyed/understood after reading the first 2, I guess they are just bundling the stock they have lots of.

** deal got the better of me and I ordered it, came out as £0 cost for me after completing the order.

out of stock now. boo
#24
That stinks! The Dreaming Void and The Temporal Void sell for more than that on their own! Can't believe I missed this one! I adored Misspent Youth, Pandora's Star and Judas Unchained - Peter F. Hamilton is the king of Space Opera.
#25
I just finished the void trilogy which was excellent. Be aware that Hamilton's trilogies are more like a single book split over three volumes - there's no real closure or recap - so be prepared to get the 3rd in the series (Evolutionary Void - recently out in hardback)

Matter is a great example of Banks' SF and works well stand-alone

Colfer make a valiant effort at continuing Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's series - an impossible task but it makes for an enjoyable read none-the-less
