Bet this runs like a dog but for £58 what do you expect, heat added
#2
Cheap and nasty, better wait for branded tablets --
this will be too frustrating too use.
#3
Ordered, time to jump in at this price. Hopefully no additional duty to be paid...

Unbelievably cheap. For someone looking for a larger sreen device to watch movies/music vids on mostly and very occasional use, would this be ok? Or would it be worth just buying a standalone mp4 player? Only there doesnt seem to be many 7" screen mp4 players out there?

Also can you use this for e-books?

£59.65 if checking out with paypal.

Don't waste your money on these awful generic Chinese devices - I know it sounds cheap and looks like an iPad but you will be appalled by how unusable they are. Lets face it, nobody needs one of these - my advice is wait until mid-2011 when there will be lots of competetion and buy a branded device for around £150. These are not the 'droids you are looking for.

Does anyone know if you csn download games onto this ?
#8
Woopidoo old technology packed in a new case ..

Nice "looking" gadget, crap hardware.
#9
I imagine anything you can download from the Android store will be playable on this.

Does anyone know if the screen is capacitive or not?

These things are AWFUL.

Get a Orange San Francisco instead, costs more but you get a 3g phone, a better processor, more memory, a capacitive screen, gps, bluetooth, android 2.1 and fits in your pocket.

You can also clock them from 600mhz to 849mhz and put android 2.2 on them if you have the minerals for it.

Soooo tempted but heard shocking reviews off people about these cheapo tablets, are they really that bad for say surfing hukd, eBay etc and watching maybe a film on?
#14
I'm thinking of buying this, but not sure of the model number (for custom firmware).
Would an EKEN M0001 firmware work?

I know it's not the best quality, but would be good for testing apps I write on a larger screen (I already have a SF before you start :p )
#15
£58 for what it is, ain't a bad price imo albeit yes there's poss loads of quality issues and returns probs but for £58 what do you really expect? Hot from me as I've never had probs from DX before and have ordered loads from them. Might even give this one a punt!

I have to agree - I bought one for 100 dollars from Dealextreme (I have no gripe with deal as I buy many things from them) but this was a bad buy - terribly slow and frustrating to use - battery life dismal. Don't do it - you WILL be dissappointed
#17
do not expect an ipad, its terrible. resistive screen so no multi touch for zoooming etc

I returned mine when i bought it on fleabay.

Avoid!
#18
really research before buying one of these. the extra pennies you spend will give you much more rewards
#19
lol @ the people thinking it will be as good as a iPad...

its cheap and chinese. it runs android which is good for playing around with.
#20
dont know if anyone spotted this around 2mins into demo video the bloke was pressing the screen so hard you could see the lcd making those horrible smears .. nice demo ...
#21
look at that video lmao its so slow, my desire loads things instantly, that was painful lagging on any operation it did
#22

thats the comment you want, from soneone who has bought one.

cheers

dont get me wrong, i dont like apple stuff at all, but lets not label this or anything like this an ipad rival, beater, etc etc.

the android as an OS is fantastic, but it needs the hardware to run it.

just wait till a decent branded one comes out.

i`m gonna sell my ereader and put some cash towards one.

No, the Desire (both) is 1ghz. Original is 65nm and HD is 45nm.

300mhz is almost half of the first Android device, the G1, launched in 2008!

although this thing is pretty crap, there must be some projects this could be useful in simply for what it is. What about a control panel for home automation? Could be a remote control for XBMC? Maybe you could turn it into some sort of in car entertainment device?

Sure it's no IPAD but it's still a 7" touch screen android device, use your imagination people;

thank god for common sense.

we have one at home (bought for $110 USD) which is used as a media remote for our Squeeze box. all runs fine and looks the part.

I've been looking for one with bluetooth + GPS to mount in my dash... ;)

I'm sure there's a 1gb version from china kicking around on hukd somewhere for a similar price , that might be worth a punt instead

there are others at higher prices, with better specs. I'd expect anyone ordering one to look though them all first.

Could I ask if you have owned one? If so, what was so awful about it other than the speed problems? Im mainly looking for something to read PDF files off and watch Films.

Cheers

i have to laugh at these comments about ipad v tablets and in particular samsung galaxy tab.

My wife has had the ipad for 8 weeks now. I bought my galaxy tab last week and she wants me to swap as its better. How much of this commentry comes from people who have had plenty of use from both devices? Probably none!
#34
should be fine for PDFs, but films might judder/lag/stutter if they are a much higher resolution than the screen (processor wont keep up with the de-coding).

this is a list of the other ones incase anyone fancies a different one.

Is this thing technically any better than the Eken 001 that got everyone on HUKD got so excited about 6 months ago? It looks much the same to me (snail slow ARM9 processor, ancient Android 1.6, unresponsive resistive touch screen, way to little memory and too small a battery).

No-one likes a cheap bargain more than me but this is one I'll pass one. Like someone else said, get a cheap android phone instead.

It is not about that, it is about its usability and it has NONE. Look at the video, I merely only pointed out my desire as it is a phone with the same OS that can perform these basic tasks flawlessly, this on the other hand even at this price is a complete waste of money, it is completely unusable and the screen is absolute **** aswell, I am only saying that although this appears cheap dont **** waste your money, spend atleast £100. I know my phone is alot more powerful BUT that is almost the minimum level of power you need, you cant have an android device on 300mhz it is just utterly pointless, 600mhz is a minimum if you want to do anything on it.
#37
I do agree its a good price and maybe worth a punt, but don'r forget the the 1.6 2.1 and 2.2 google O/S has been developed for smart phones and not these tablets. I'd rather wait to the new year to see what other better vendors launch than go for something that is a stop gap!
#38
I've got an ipad (although planning to sell it as soon as I find where I put the box!) and my 2 & 5yr olds absolutely love it - would anybody be able to recommend a cheap ipad alternative that would be good for playing kids games? I'm worried that if the touchscreen is poor then it would make it difficult to use for them. Other than that, the performance isn't particularly important.
#39
why not keep the iPad? wont find anything better at the moment.
#40
From the reviews on the DX page (skimmed through them), it seems that if the slowness of this item doesn't drive you crazy the very poor battery life will.

Very cheap, but if you're planning to use it a lot and get enjoyment out of it rather than want to rip your hair out, probably better to buy something decent or wait a bit longer for prices to come down for the branded/good products already on the market.
