i rang and reserved the thomson pvr at Argos for £79.99 some places still want £99.99 inc Comet. i nipped into Comet on the way down to Argos for something else and asked if he could save me a trip down the high street (kirkcaldy) by price matching Argos, he called and checked same model DTR6300-16 then price matched, but at till a further saving comes off. So we bagged it for £77.99 !

"160GGB" Now that's what I call a big hard drive, 160 Billion Gigabytes

I was looking at getting the recorder in the above like. Anyone know whether Wharfedale or Thompson recorder will be better for the price?

They are totally different - The Wharfdale is a single Freeview tuner(I think) /HDD /DVD recorder; while the Thomson is a dual Freeview tuner / HDD (no DVD player or recorder).

Cheers didn't even spot that Thomson hadn't got a recorder. Think I'll stick to the Wharfedale

Do not buy one of these boxes if you like piece and quiet.

I bought one of these, even in standby the cooling fans are whirring away and the hard drive clicking and humming. It's that bad you can hear it in the next room.

For me standby should be standby, using very little energy, carbon footprint and all that, and if you don't care about the environment think of your electricity bill keeping this thing running 24/7.

If you are still thinking of buying one of these check out the review online, they all say the same. I spoke to Technical support about this and was told that it was a feature of the product

I took mine back and bought one made by Sharp, much better.

I agree - exactly same story - mine went back as soon as Thomson support told me there was no fix for the useless and noisy standby mode. If it was just the noise I'd say try it for yourself - but there's no excuse for the energy consumption in standby.
