Most of the Acer Aspire One's that were sold in the UK have the 3-cell Li-Ion battery pack (2200mAh), and some XP 160Gb versions come with the bigger 6-cell battery (4400mAh, longer battery life).

On auction sites etc. there are also 9-cell batteries available, but dealextreme sell these 9-cell batteries cheaper (but before ordering, check the size: they are bulky).

Blurbs from the dealextreme website:

- Type: UM08A72/UM08B74/UM08A71/UM08A73/UM08B31/UM08B32/UM08B71
- High capacity heavy duty battery pack
- 100% compatible with original batteries
- 7200mAh capacity
- 11.1V output

Good price - is this a big drop, or just a push downward due to the recent strengthening of the pound against the dollar?
#2
I checked dealextreme 2-3 weeks ago and they weren't offering these batteries, first time now I see those on their site (for just over $50).

The £32.30 is what Paypal charges, but you're right:
depending on strength of pound vs. dollar
#3
How do you force paypal to charge in uk pounds as when I pay in $ halifax charge me £1.50.
#4
high chance you'll get hit for VAT & a handling charge when it's delivered.

its a slim chance.... i heard from someone who works for them that they dont have the manpower or time to check every single parcel . you imagine it -tens of thousands of parcels every day . its just random parcels that get stung and its happened to me but ive got away with it alot more times than not .
#6
Any one have any experience with these, are they ok quality?
#7
how "bulky" are these from the back? are they much bigger than the 6 cell ones?

oh and how many hours can this give?
#8
at the very least over 6 hours on a single charge. should be closer to 8 hours though.
#9
I bought one of these types of battery for my eee pc and TBH they were very bulky, actually made the netbook raise up from the back, completely ruins the aesthetics and the overall lines of the machine. Good if you simply want more hours from your battery but don't expect it to fit in your lovely new case with one of these on!

Personally I would just get another one like the one that came with it and just swap between the 2 if that's what's required
#10
alternatively - I bought one and the slight raise it gives the Acer is actually better for typing etc, getting between 6 and 8 hours out of it depending what I'm doing, adds a bit of weight but I've taken mine on a couple of trips in a normal hold all and you still wouldn't notice it was in there
#11
Just ordered a white one cheers!
#12
Had this battery delivered a few days ago but havent had a chance to test it yet. Will let you know how it performs.

Actually its £32.45 at current rate.
PayPal Conversion Rate as of 5 Jun. 2009: 1 British Pound = 1.56529 US Dollars
#16
Posters previously were questioning safety (overheating, fires, etc.). Is this a real risk or just paranoia?

Anyone know of longer life batteries in same size as original at a decent price?

As you can see it's quite big and will obviously add a fair bit of weight (new total weight = 1.3kg). If you absolutely need this kind of battery life and are away from a wall socket long enough then it's a must :)

Before anyone asks, no it's not possible to get this kind of large mah battery in the same physical size as the standard battery. If it was, you can be sure that it would cost a LOT more than the equivalent physically-larger version of it.

How much will this be if you do get charged? Then I can see if it is worth it.

Do you know if it the same in other EEC countries-I live in Austria

I've never been hit with additional charges for dealextreme purchases, never heard of anyone paying customs either.
#23
Not sure whether to get one of these or a 6 cell one, cos read most of the 9 cells are the really bulky - is this one deffo ok then?

The amount of tax you might get charged will be the same rate of VAT you get in your country. It might not be called VAT where you live, possibly sales tax I really don't know for Austria or any other EU country to be honest :)

On top of that will probably be a charge from the carrier for holding onto the parcel to charge you the vat [providing a service]..... I remember being charged an extra £6 or so years ago on a £22 item, plus the vat making it about £33 total for it from Canada to the UK.....

Anyway thanks for the pictures for the 9 cell battery, are there any pictures with a 6 cell battery connected? Thanks....

it's not very pretty, is it?
#28
anyone know what case you could use for this battery?
Thanks....
#29
Think I maybe go for a 6 cell going by the pics, maybe a better compromise...

I still use the same one that came with the 150, the battery just sits out the back

aw come on 1.3kg - a fair bit of weight? what size of hands have you?lol yes it increases the weight but it doesn't weigh anywhere near what my 15" dell does, like I said before I've stuck it in an overnight hold all and travelled on a plane with it and you wouldn't know the laptop was there.........the pictures make it seem big and ugly, it doesn't look anywhere near as extreme when you have it in real life

They tend to deal with low value stuff under a tenner which isn't subject to the same level of scrutiny for VAT. More expensive stuff is more likely to be caught in the net and if you were unlucky you could end up having to pay another 15 quid or so.

My comments were more for the those new to expanding their note/net books battery capacity for the first time. Those types of users would be the ones wanting 7200mah in the same physical size as the stock battery, not realising that it isn't possible, with this netbook or any other for that matter. I was in the same position many many years ago before I read up on battery tech and figured out the limitations, what's possible and what's not.

For me, I wouldn't mind the extra bulk if I needed it
suspended#38
is this the best deal around?

can you get in blue? :whistling:
#39
picture actually shows how the battery would help with ventilation....
#40
I bought my Acer to be light & compact for taking on holiday.
That battery would completely ruin the package size.

Also, I don't think spending 6 hours hunched up over something as small as an Aspireone would be a healthy way of spending the day.
