Top deal.
Anyone know how well the GTA 4 episodes work with a xbox 360 controller, cause I tried setting San Andreas up using one and it was a right hassle + the fact that lock on isn't included on PC made me stop playing as aiming became a PITA.
Oh, and can you actuallly play the episodes without the original GTA 4? I don't want to buy that again as I have it for Xbox360 already.

GTA IV on the PC works with the Xbox 360 controller.

To play the episodes as a standalone you need to purchase Episodes from Liberty City and not the individual DLC.

It works perfectly with the xbox for windows controller, it's setup for it this time.

The add-ons that are for sale there require you to have bought the game, if you want to play the episodes on their own, get 'Episodes From Liberty City' http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-GB/Games/GTA-IV--EFLC/ which have the two DLCs as stand alone playable games, without the story of Niko in GTA 4.

£4.99 instead of £4.17. Well, I could live with that.
Actually, thinking about it I've heard that GTA 4 is not very optimised on PC and requires a hefty PC to run in which case I might struggle as I only have a dualcore PC with a midrange (at the most) gfx card.
Why aren't the console GTA games ever at this price :(

360 controller works great with this game - on multiplayer you really need to hope that the host has enabled auto-aim though!

As above - works straight out the box with no need for messing around :)

Does Vice City just look like the PS2 version?

The art style is the same, it just looks ALOT sharper and clearer.

Echoing what StolenDiagram said, you just have a sharper image, and a much larger draw distance. The difference was more noticeable in San Andreas PS2 vs PC version.

are these games for the pc?
or would they work on a windows 7 phone?

Even in its PC buggy form it beats the **** off the console versions, as PC graphics are equivalent of the console versions when set as LOW with all sliders @10-15% settings locked to 30fps at max 720p res, if your rig can take it (my can) then when its maxed everything to 100% quality you'll see it is miles better with 60fps+ @ 1080p and higher.

Sure if you dont mind waiting 5-10 years for Windows phones to get a decent GPU

All the GTA 3 series titles are pretty much exact clones graphically to the consoles, except for higher resoultions and way faster fps.

This game was optimised for Dual cores, quad/hexa cores etc get very little extra performance (doesnt even use 50% cpu time on mine) as long as the GPU is half decent (Nvidia 260 or 4870/5830 or better) then you can get this running pretty good on medium/high settings if the resoultion isn't too high above 720p grade.

Anyone know if this deal applies to the likes of Red Dead Redemption :D

Episodes from Liberty City is £5 if you don't already have GTA4.
#17
the games are great on pc though gta4 has issues, especially frame rate ones, if you don't have a good pc don't bother its more intensive on cpu than gpu.

i think the pc versions of older gta such as 3 and vice city the difference from the consoles is unbelievable, especially with the realgta mod for gta3.

GTA4 was ALWAYS optimised for quads. Having a decent quad core is a massive advantage for minimum framerates which is what matters most of course on this game. Take a look: http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,669595/GTA-4-PC-CPU-benchmark-review-with-13-processors/Reviews/?page=2 (the comma seems to break the link but works fine if you copy it)

Here you see a 3ghz Core 2 Quad getting greatly superior minimum framerate than a dual core of the same architecture running 1ghz faster. The game is CPU intensive.

It does not run well with low specs, i wouldn't try with anything less than a very fast Core 2 duo and a 9600GT. For that you will get it playable 720p/30FPS.

If however you have a modern card with over 1Gb video memory and modern quad, then the game looks very nice on maximum settings. It almost looks a different game to console, the draw distance, lighting and texture resolution is muchly improved etc

+1, Bully is a fantastic game.

Really hot deal OP, doesn't matter for me though because I own all of these games on Steam :)

Hmmm I have gta 4 and the episodes for 360 and I am thinking of selling them and buying this instead.

What would you do is pc better than 360 for this game?

(I can play crysis at 1920x1200 with top textures but no aa)

also I played about half of gta 4 and got stuck on a painful mission and couldnt be bothered to continue so another option is to just sell the episodes and play them on pc. Is there any benefit to playing gta4 before the episodes? Do you get any unlocks or references I might miss?
#22
Hmm it isn't accepting my card. I wonder if that has anything to do with me abusing the £1 Xbox live offer earlier.

What are your specs? The game is very crisp on PC when you can turn it up to max or near max way ahead of either console

No it looks 1000 times better :p

Bully was £2.69 new delivered from amazon the other day, if you want a cd version. Ignore the reviews, there was a prob for systems with over 2gb but the official patch took care of it. Amazon Link

Most GTA's work off the bat with the 360 controller and look awesome but vice city needs an unofficial mod to work properly as its backwards or something was wrong I forget, hot..

I have an e8400 @ 3.6 (can run at 4 as have a better fan installed but saw no improvement so don't bother)

A 4890 not overclocked but I hear its easy to get 10% boost so can do that if things don't run well and it's running on a 24" 1902x1200 monitor (oh and 4gb ram )

It won't run maxed at that res. It prefers a quad and it uses nearly 1200mb video memory maxed. The slowest machine i own that runs this maxed @ 19 x 12 is a core i7 920 @ 3.6ghz and a well oced GTX570 1280mb. You should still see better settings than a console though at that res.

I actually bought one of these with spare MS points i had. I think BoGT is about 300MS points when i got them cheap on a deal here too!

Yes it does work I just brought it, but as I had it in my bastet for a little while they were removed so had to add them again.

Also everyone should note you can purchase using microsoft points (which I did) and actually works out cheaper if you got your points at a good price. It is 1100 points for gta4 and all add ons which at £15 for 2100 points comes to less than £8

Ok thanks, I'll start it on this machine but I am planning on building an ultra gaming machine and putting it inside an arcade cabinet and disguising it as a arcade machine to put in the living room. I assume you can transfer save games from one machine to another easily?

Actually looking that this

http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviews/745/pg8/ati-radeon-4890-and-nvidia-gtx-275-graphics-review-gta-iv.html

It seems I should be able to cope as i'll be getting roughly 40fps which I would hope is playable

GFWL is stupid for saves, it hides them rather than makes it easy for you. On Win 7 you have to make sure to show all hidden files, then its C; Users, Your name, App data, Local, Rockstar, GTA4. Best off taking the whole file

In reponse to your link, note that the CPU they use is a considerably more powerful i7 965 and the XXX oced 4890 still only delivers a minimum of 22 frames a second. The CPU is more important on this game than you might realise. So don't expect that graph to be too representative of your performance.

http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,672004/GTA-4-PC-Intel-Core-i7-far-ahead-of-Core-2-Quad-in-CPU-benchmarks/Reviews/ look at the difference between your CPU and the quad i7- note that the i7 965 used in the link you provide is even faster than the 920 that tops the charts. It is nearly 20 frames a second faster in minimum framerate with the same graphics card. So use caution.

It'll be playable fine if you are modest with the settings. It is a harsh game to run. OC your CPU as good as it'll go, it'll make the most difference

I have the Episodes standalone but I'm really tempted to get them via GFWL marketplace so I don't have to store 2 of the same Liberty City maps which would save me quite a bit of HDD space
