very good price, been many offers for the GTX 460, 768mb at this sort of price but this currently seems the best

If I was looking to spend about £100 on a new GFX card what would be the best deal at the moment or should I try and justify the extra £15 for this?
#3
Spend the extra £15, you won't regret it. For £100 the best you'll get is the 5770 which isn't in the same league.....
#4
wow! i just spotted this on scan! how isnt this deal much hotter?!! this is the cheapest price on HUKD for a gtx 460 and it is the ASUS version with the very good directCU cooler and pre-overclocked! i would definately buy this one over the palit version even if this was £10 more expensive!
#5
Great card. Installed the plait version for a friend, runs cool & quiet and great performance in games.
#6
wow thats cheap. I think AMD are bringing out a card to rival this so i'd hold out a couple weeks as it will be most likely better.

Oh give over.

There are *always* new cards coming out, price drops coming along soon, etc. Go look at any thread for any graphics card on here in the last couple of years and somebody always posts something like that.

Just get what is the best offer going for your budget at the time. If you keep waiting for the next thing, you will be waiting forever. Tomorrow never comes.

This is a hot deal - fantastic card at a fantastic price point. It's almost like the 8800 all over again.

If I were to sell my 5770 overclock edition, how much does one reckon I would get for it? I've only had it since April.

You can be sure that the new top end ATI cards will be the best around when they arrive. The mid-range is different though as the 460 768MB is a really competitive product at this price. It's sat between ATI's 5770 and 5850 in performance but costs much closer to the 5770. ATI's new mid-range is almost without fail a slightly lower performing but more efficient model than last years high end. As such I would be surprised if it is massively more powerful than the 460. More likely is that they will price between the 460 768MB and 1GB models whilst slightly outperforming the 1GB. It will also take at least a month for the stock to be available at the competitive rates due to early demand so probably looking end of November to really know what the score is.

Is a ATI 4870 worth considering?

Not many of them still around from what I have seen, and my reply would be yes. The 4870 is a fantastic card and a great buy if your getting it cheap, but I dont think the 4870 is comparable with the card on sale here, specially for the money.
#14
i bought this last week when it was £10 more - and its likely the best bang for buck you can get ; TOP edition means its `modestly` overclocked from the factory 700 mhz core up from 675 , but that doesnt tell the whole story;

mine runs at 800 / 3880 - the max the `smart doctor` sliders will go to (your mileage may vary) - all on stock voltage - as for noise and heat? in games - metro 2033 , it barely gets above 60 dgeree`s and 50% on the fan (at 800/3880).

an amazing piece of kit - and for today £10 cheaper.

only comparable card from AMD for the money is the 5770 - and this blows it out of the water, heck its faster (accoring to reviews) than the £60 more expensive 5830!

ATI 6000 series rumoured to be just around the corner and may be unveiled at the AMD Technical Forum and Exhibition 2010 in Taiwan on October 19. I'd hold out for a month personally if I was in the market.

People mention that when new cards are brought out there is an inevitable price drop. In fact, when I purchased my 5770, after Nvidia released their cards, the price of Ati's increased 3 months later. So I got the card cheaper and didn't have to wait 3 months more. If you were to make a saving, it wouldn't be that much. Use the advice that is given when purchasing other computer equipment. Buy what you need when you need it.

This card will overclock massively - GPU upto 900mhz stable on its cooler in the right case in one review i read.

Just ordered one, problem was my pc is 4 years old so ended up buying £800's worth of PC to go with it! Don't think my bank manager is going to be too happy with me!

A 450w PSU should be fine to run a single GTX 460, no need to upgrade urgently but could consider later.

See http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/156

"Load power consumption FurMark = 360W"
