the 5850 and 6850 give a similar performance for a similar price, just depends on what games you play as some games favour ati while others favour nvidia.

Excellent head-to-head comparison evaluating many games & benchmarks across many resolutions.

GTX 460 768MB 93%
GTX 460 1024MB 100%
HD 5850 1024MB 112%

That makes the HD 5850 an average of 20.4% faster than the GTX 460 768MB in this deal.
Similar, yes, but certainly not equivalent.

If you were out for a middle-to-high end GPU at the moment you'd be a fool not to buy the HD 5850 in this deal - it's an absolute corker of a deal.

it seems like you were mistaken, no one got it apart from 2 people on the forum and play says everyone's order was cancelled

I've had an email from Play saying mine has been posted already.

The offer is over now though, they're going for twice the price :p

Personally I'd prefer usually to buy the Nvidia cards.
It's not the cards themselves so much (although they all seem to move/countermove each other all the time so that the prices/specs are usually there or thereabouts in each class) as the drivers.

IIRC Nvidia have a much better rep for video playback with their drivers which for me at least is easily as important (if not more so) for me than a couple of frames per sec difference (& even then it's usually only on certain games, with the ATi card winning some & the Nvidia winning others).
#15
I'd love to go for 2 of these in SLI, but I'm not willing to spend £180 on a mATX mobo that actually supports SLI
#16
Can you get free shipping? its showing as 7.99 shipping
#17
got one of these a last monday, and it didnt include hawx.not that i'm particularly bothered,
#18
Ati are better IMO, you can get like a hd 4780 or what ever the model is for around the same price.

The 460 is an excellent card, but your ATI bashing is hilarious. Video playback issues lol?

"from what I know and have researched nothing can come close to it at this price point."

And if you did your research two weeks ago you would have been totally right, lol. Actually it's still right apart from the occasional 5850 deal but they are fleeting whereas this card is always around £115 at OCUK and Scan. If the 5850 Play deal had been on when I was looking to buy a card I would have gone for it, but it wasn't. And now it's finished.

This is still a great card for the money. It does run cool although the fan on mine made a weird high-pitch noise. I took it off and strapped a 92mm fan to the heatsink cos it was bugging me so much.

It also over-clocks like a dream at stock voltage, core clock goes from 700 to 850 or more.

How is that great info, I think you are misinforming people.
This is Newer technology, different architecture, DX11, faster.
According to http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-460-gf104-fermi,2684-12.html
460 is about 30% more performance in some games than the 5770 which is about just a little faster than a 4870.
#26
By the way people this card overclocks like a dream and can be bought up to nearly match a 460 1gb easily ( which isn't to far of from a 5850 which costs a lot more then this card). Partly due the excellent cooling that this card comes with.

What is the brand and model of your PSU? Also what other components do you have in your system?

your ATI bashing is hilarious. Video playback issues lol?

Er, you might care to read what I actually said. I'm not actually 'bashing' anyone
(note my comments on one make usually reviewing being 'better' at some games and the other one on others),
I'm just stating a point on my own experience - and it is something i have seen widely commented upon in various PC video enthusiast sites.

I have bought ATi cards in the past (in fact one of my PCs has one in it right now) but that for video playback (especially HD video playback) Nvidia's drivers are usually noticeably better.

I am not the one here with the 'fanboy' mentality that has to see any attempt at helpful comment or constructive criticism as 'bashing'?
ATi's driver problems are well known & easy for anyone to check out on the net, especially amongst the videophile community.

If you have a decent PSU it will be OK, they always over state the minimum PSU requirement. Like JustExtreme says, it does depend on your other components too.
#37
Limited difference between this and my 4890 apart from DX11. I'll wait for now =).

Hey thanks for your help. It's an XILENCE psu, this one http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Power+Supplies/200w+to+449w/Xilence+ATX2.0+420w+PSU?productId=19868

Also have 1 DVD RW drive, 4gb corsair hyperx blu memory, AMD Phenom II 555 3.2GHz, 1 memory card reader, 3 80mm fans, 1 Samsung 1TB 7200rpm HDD

What dya think?

It should be OK, my Corsair CX400w was OK in that it was enough to power it but the fan on the PSU would spin very fast when gaming (noisy). It wasn't even getting hot, the fan controller on the PSU was just very eager to spin the fan when the GPU was used. I have similar specs to you.

It appears that the GTX 460 needs either 24a or 26a on the 12v rail - http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=104805.0;wap2

The CX400w has a single 30a 12v rail, so should be OK, but your Xilence PSU has 2 separate 12v rails, providing 13a and 14a respectively, a combined total of 27a in a perfect world, but PSU's don't always work like that unfortunately! :p

Buy it and try it, hopefully it will work, we'll keep or fingers crossed, lol! X)
