8 MBps broadband with AOL £9.99 per month

1st post so please be nice.

I contacted AOL to cancel my slow 2MBps broadband at £15.99 per month when they pointed out that due to the area I live in(Manchester) they could offer me 8MBps broadband with free weekend and evening calls for only £9.99 per month. On there web site the Platinum 8MBps currently goes for £29.99 per month.

There is an 18 month tie in with a 7 day cooling off period.

I couldn't tell you much more other than I used my own Router.

I hope this helps someone!

Seems like its "fair use policy". If you are already with AOL this seems like a good pointer, wouldn't chnage to AOL though.
This is a useful first post. :)

Anyone know if AOL permit use their SMTP server to send email from non-AOL email addresses with Outlook / Outlook Express / Thunderbird, etc?
I know receiving non-AOL email will be fine - just concerned about outgoing mail. Thanks in advance.

I also got the £9.99 for 8mb deal myself last month.
I bought a wireless router off them for £25.
They said I'd get free weekend calls but I've noticed they've charged
me the subscription fee, so I'll chase them up aout that.
I have in writing via an email that its a 12 month contract.

I too, have been hit with the fair use policy.
My speed is reduced to 0.5mb, 6 days a week during 6pm-10.30pm.
I got a letter in the post saying that I've downloaded to much and
to reduce it to under 60gb per month or else!

I saw this thread yesterday and decided to give them a call today.

a 15minute call to India got me sorted.

To have the offer you need to take out their phone package too which is free for the first year and can be canceled when you want. Its the same as BT Option 1 - according to the woman on the phone. Which is what we were on before anyway. So there's no change there really.

She said our max speed would be 5.5mbps which is a lot better than the 2mbps we are getting right now. That's ample for me - just gotta wait until next week now for the speed to go up.

Saved us a tenner a month!

BTW - we've been with AOL now since 1998 (says the woman on the phone) and never had a problem with it. Just incase you're wondering lol
#23
Yup my friend is on aol and has recently received a letter about overuse. In the letter they say the download limit is 60gb a month. His last 3 months average exceeded 150gb a month.
#24
I Did this package 2 months ago aswell. Just remembered and thought i'd see if anyone else has posted. Good job for posting. I also got the dreaded bandwidth letter. I'm gonna kerb my downloading now as you can't beat 9.99 per month for the same package i was paying 29.99 for. Sometime you gotta make sacrifices. I can't beleive all you ungrateful people have rated this deal as -11 degrees. This is a great deal as far as i can see. Beats anybody. My connection has always been stable for the 3 years i have been with them.

I always used to call this company

Any Other Line as thats what most be prefered apart from AOL

hehe

Why go for that when with Sky you could get 16meg for £10 a month add another fiver a month and you have unlimited calls all day every day (call up to 59 min the hang up then re dial)

So does this work if I get the FREE Laptop from Carphone Warehouse's website on AOL?
