Of that 42%, 50% is allowed to be fat IIRC

They do taste nice tho probably because of the flavourings and nothing else.

I buy these because they are one of the few sausages to lose most of their weight as fat while cooking, very little fat seems to comes out of these when you oven them. I usually buy the frozen ones as works out cheaper.

I'm a black farmer fan myself, haven't had theses since i was in scouts, so can't remember what they were like, in addition we nuked them anyway.

I nearly bought these the other day, as I recognise the brand, and they sound good. But then I looked at the back and saw that 42% pork content. No thanks. Even the Morrisons cheapo sausages have more than that, I think even they were 50 - 56% or something. I'm no snob, and each to their own, but the higher quality sausages weren't too much more and taste much better IMO.

Richmond sausages contain the following additives:

● E450 - You wouldn't expect sausages to contain added water but these low-meat (51%) sausages are practically dripping with it. The water is held in place by E450, a chemical which "solidifies" the mixture

● E412 - an emulsifier which helps to hold fat and water together (the meat in these sausages is almost half fat);

● E300 and E307 - antioxidant vitamins which stop the fat content turning rancid. This gives the product a long shelf life before it becomes unpalatable;

● E223 - a sulphite preservative which keeps the sausages safe to eat and prolongs their shelf life. Some people find that sulphites provoke shortness of breath and asthma;

● E128 - to disguise the low meat content these sausages have been coloured with a synthetic chemical Azo Dye called Red 2G.

I love Debbie & Andrews sausages and they contain even more meat than Black Farmers and leave no fat on a grill after cooking.
That said my wife and I both like the taste of these and unlike other cheap sausages I have never found lumps of gristle or bone in them. We rarely eat fatty foods and once in a while isn't going to kill you, well, at least not too soon.
I remember as a child having bread cooked in beef dripping, tasted great!

You won't pay a lot more than this for sausages or chipolatas from an actual butcher, and in stark contrast to these the ones you buy from an actual butcher will actually be made up of real meat.

I have to agree with the general consensus in this thread. These are absolutely awful.

pork fat, skin, intestines. People make it out to be all disgusting but there are a lot of things people eat that sound disgusting but thats life.

Non- beef casings you say? Probably made out of plastic stops the fat escaping when cooked.

That is a very interesting concept, or are you suggesting that they are pure fat? (Perhaps Richmond are using some genetically modified cow/boar/bull chimera)

Disgusting sausages anyway, the trouble is that kid's love them. Good job that I am an evil Daddy and won't give mine what they want.

You are joking surely!? ..we bake our sausages in the oven & because the daughter is still in the stage of mushy crud sausages in the main, these are one of her favourites, after cooking a pack there is a massive white fat skidmark which needs many wipes to remove & bin.
no offence meant, however :DI would hate to see your defenition of "lots" of fat then.

No not joking, I'm comparing them to the other sausages I buy which is the butchers choice from Sainsburys. I use the richmond frozen ones so not sure if they are different at all but very little fat comes in out in comparison to the Sainsburys ones, they were making a mess of my oven but with the Richmonds, there is barely any fat at all, so can't explain why my experience is different to everyone elses on here.
