voted cold hd 4870 1gb is cheaper and offers better performance, much better card here http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/305141/eah4870-dk-htdi-1gd5-1gb-asus-hd-48

Nah, this is new 55nm product, released in a few day, with better overclocks as less heat is produced and it newer design... 1gb hd 4870 vs core 216 gtx 260 55nm. 55nm wins!

From what ive read they offer similar performance until you enable antialising at high resolutions then the hd 4870 pulls ahead due to having larger faster memory also since catalyst 8.12 driver, the hd 4870 1gb performs better than gtx 260 / 216 core in crysis warhead, fallout 3, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky and Unreal Tournament...

so why pay more for less performance? you can get a hd 4870 1gb for around £199

We got same gamers in the room, yeah! :-D

Do your own research I aint doing it for you it is easy type gtx 260 core 216 55nm into google, good luck! :D And I love EVGA and it is 55nm so it will overclock better anyway as less power is needed and less heat will be produced.

Please lets decide NOT to go down the traditional NVidia versus ATI flamewars that always take place as soon as one side says it better than the other.

It's like the whole PC versus Mac arguement all over again.

Just work out if its a hot deal in comparison to other brands of the same card and the sites selling them. It's always going to end with personal opinions as to whether NVidia are better than ATI or vice versa!

The old GTX260 was slightly slower than the 4870 for overall performance. NVidia has rehashed the new GTX260 55NM Core216 specifically to beat the 4870, which it will by a small margin. Only when overclocked will this new 260 soundly beat the 4870's (which tend to overclock poorly in comparison).

Good price for anyone looking for a ~£200 graphics card. However most people on here are not gamers so high-end graphics cards never get the heat they deserve.

This is hot for a new update of an already good product. It also has lower power requirement than the old card (incl the 4870). Well spotted.

Thanks guys I am a hardcore gamer so it's cool!

I am no fanboy I owned Hd 4870 512mb good card but I game at 1920x1080 and 4xaaxaf and this card doesn't quite cut it, so I am hoping this will or the new Gtx 295.
#9
keep posting these! But I game at lower resolutions so I think a hd4870 512 for 159 in pixmania is my way to go :) still waiting for the price to drop a bit, got a 9800gtx atm

Nice card, and wicked price. HOT!! :)
#11
Judging the card offered & price available elsewhere - hot.

But if you're after comparative performance then hunt around as it may not be the best card out there.
#12
The title looks iike gibberish to me but probably a good deal.
#13
The stupidity of Nvidias naming ,They bring out a totally revamped card and give it the same name,Why couldnt they just call it the GTX 261,
#14
Ahh now i get it it is a graphics card, now i have deciphered the title ;-)

seen a mini review of this 55nm card, meant to run hotter and use more power, work that one out ! new model and theyve skimped on the cooler

http://en.expreview.com/2008/12/27/the-first-review-of-55nm-geforce-gtx260.html

id go for the 4870 1gb with new cooler for £190

ATi HD 4870 is much better and much cheaper. (like always ATi offers better FPS/£ ratio and doesnt overheat at same frequencies)

I found a good deal on Asus EAH4870 on Ebuyer, 180£.
some specs:
512Mb Gddr5 at 3600Mhz (1Gb version goes for 250£ at AWD-IT)
750Mhz GPU
pretty good stock cooler, I have only added a controller to it.

what can I say? puts GTX 260 in the cold. not that your deal is cold, it might be good. Im not going to vote either way.
as long as ATi and Nvidia keep on fighting for our money it is us who win.

PS: my new 4870 uses 20% less power than my old 8800GTX and stays a lot cooler with factory cooling, while 8800GTX had a Thermalright cooler. go figure

I think I'll wait for the next generation. I've still got an old 7900gtx overclocked and it runs everything even today.

896MB GTX 260 in title...

Hmm ok... :p

Its probably better to wait a bit. I think the only game its usefull for is Crysis at the moment. My 8800GT runs all the current new games on high settings fine.

If you really need one though seems a good price.

If I buy this through pay-pal do I still get my quidco 5% discount?
#26
Since the big bang drivers GTX 260-216CORE is a better all round performer than 1GB 4870.

gta4? it will never run on full with gtx 260

Good deal. Just switched one of my PCs from a ATI 4870 to GTX 260, might pick one of these up and swap the other too. (I need CUDA and the viewport performance in Maya with ATI none-workstation cards is appalling - there's very little performance difference in games).

Hot.

they should really call this GTX 260B, not GTX 260 55nm GDDR3 version. Anyways, I think this is overkill for most gamers. Best for those who want the best ultimate performance.
