nice find  selling the older gen ones off cheap no doubt, still a great price.
#2
older gen is usually more hackable for people wanting to mess with their touch
#3
anyone know if the new gen is out or when its coming out ?
#4
2nd gen released about a month ago and been available from Apple since then. DSG and most retailers usually take months to clear previous generation stock and then still claim it's the latest spec :(

dropping the price is good sign though...... and you will get the latest software when you hook it up to iTunes, I had to pay £5.99 :(
#6
You still won't get the latest firmware, there will still be a charge, the reason most retailers drop the prices is to reflect the additional cost of adding the new firmware + the fact that its previous gen

funny that as my missus got one yesterday and the £5.99 FW update was free when she plugged in for the first time...
#8
just think these were £200 about 10 months ago, sigh
#9
great find
#10
tbh, the battery life is supposedly way better on the newer ones, so its probably worth paying the extra 10/30quid for that alone :/

That should be the way, as they probably have version 2.0 firmware already (can't be that old and still have <2.0!), so the update to 2.1 will of course be free.
#12
How do you tell the difference between the two? Sainsbury had same price at London Colney today.

whats the difference in price between this and the 2nd gen? Serious tempted

I wish people would check their facts before they keep spreading the same falsehoods in each iPod Touch deal.

The firmware that comes on the current brand new 2nd gen iPod Touches is 2.1. If you have an old first gen Touch the upgrade to 2.1 is free so long as you have the 2.0 firmware which came out when Apple introduced the app store earlier this year. So the only way you will end up having to pay a fee is if you bought a first gen Touch that came out before the App store did and you have yet to upgrade it to make it App store compatible.

Yes, because even first gen Touchs will have the 2.0 firmware, only really old first gens that came out before the App store didn't.

It is thinner, plus it has external volume controls, an external speaker, a contoured back and built-in Nike+ support.
#16
old one has a flat silver back with a black corner.
new one has a tapered design and is reflective silver on the back... also runs nike+ natively
#17
Thanks guys, it was the old one then.
#18
this is a pretty rubbish price drop tbh, especially when you've been able to get a refurb from apple themselves for £120 for the past few months, you would expect a bit of a better deal for these first gen ones :/

For me to answer that all I will do is google the price of the new one, something you could do for yourself.

Yeah but the phone is pretty steep to buy on pay and go, or the alternative is an expensive long contract.

cheapest for the new one brand new is £139 online asda
cheapest for the old one brand new is £129 at various stores.

so not alot tbh. new one is better. imo
#24
just read the spec on this and it says it comes with no

Headphones
mains lead
and USB lead

If you've ordered one and received it what came with it?

My daughter would love one but if it means buying all the extras i'd rather get the new one.

click on the extra spec under the description.

cheers mate, rep for you, not for the other guy!
#27
Wow, I am thinking of getting a new one, so will get it from asda instead of apple!
#28
Quick question though, how do I know it is the new one from asda?

thanks very much :)....

my main reasons for waiting for the newer one are the built in speaker and the battery life, simply so I can lie (on my side) in bed without my earphone hurting my ear :)... plus I travel alot so it's super handy for me.

ahhh I've just noticed that the asda price is now for the old one :(.... the cheapest I can find the new one is.... roughly 170 :(...... ahhh I really had my heart set on the new one from asda.

I check up on Ipod touches most days, so ill let anyone know when the new one is available for a decent price.
#31
Cheers that would be helpful, I will do the same.
I am actually getting my ipod classic from apple replaced at the moment, so when it comes back refurbished I will sell it to fund me buying a touch.

Id appreciate it if you could too. I really should have got an iphone instead of this rubbish calling dropping tocco and would like to get an itouch to last me till my contract runs out. (i know an itouch is not a phone incase anyone is thinking i am retarded)
#33
PC World also have it at £129.00 with free delivery at the moment too :)
#34
129.00 will be for old one no doubt. If you are after 8gb touch argos might have them for home delivery as i have just ordered one and is getting delivered on friday

nice one let us know what Gen it is please :D

2nd gen 8gb i have checked my local warehouse (i work for argos) and there is deliveries of the new ipods to the warehouse this month and start of next month.

I wanted a 8gb touch at start but wasnt available so i reserved a 16gb which was instore but just before i bought the 16gb the 8gb was available from the warehouse so i got that instead.

Also argos have different catalogue numbers for the old and new if you search for them it will say new at the start for the new ones.

Hey ive just bought one of these. Thanks to the OP.

Was curious what are the differences between the 1st & 2nd Gen Ipod touches?

Was also wondering to those who have one of these, is it easy enough to put movies and games/apps onto it?
