A lot of the cheap ones will give you a free .uk domain. I've not used them muself but one.com will give you a free .co.uk and a year's hosting on their basic plan

While not saying there is anything wrong with this deal, the quidco isn't guaranteed and there are no stats for if this company pays out. If it tracks its hot but personally, I'd rather go with somewhere like 123-reg for half the price on the domain name and 10% quidco. Also no messing about in 2 years time as 1&1 and 123-reg tend to have the best prices for .co.uk

Still £8.00 +VAT for me... went through TopCashBack though, seems to offer cheaper domains this way

And if Quidco again does not track - not free them. Quidco = Quidcon

123reg amoung best.....watch out some comps charge fees to leave and join another isp.
I think uk2net charge fee
#17
Cold as this isn't really a deal as if it doesn't pay out then you're paying a pretty standard price or in fact higher than other places.
#18
thanks this reminded me to renew my domain on 123reg. £7 for 2 years :X

x10hosting !

$140 for 3 years:
unlimited space, unlimited domains, unlimited bandwidth, dedicated IP + free domain name
#20
If my memory serves me correctly you are able to get a domain from 1&1 for £2.99 and get £2.50 cashback from that.. As most people will not bother switching I would say your best with this option.

yeah Quidco can be confusing for the retarded. You can however do this (and better!) in one sunny September afternoon:

Make sure you choose a hosting company which is a :
1-UK company
2-Limited company
3-VAT registered company
4-More than 3 years old company
5-Free or Std phone support company
Why?
Because you willl have problems and they will need to be solved ASAP if you are running a business or professional site.
#23
1&1 are my choice.

Dont forget when the 2 years are up Namesco will cost you more!

123 reg charge for subdomains and other standard features.
#24
I always use lcn and they are cheap enough.
#25
whats the best place to get a domain and hosting?
#26
netfirms are the best for me, especially with the coupons, however not great on renewals
#27
if not using quidco ovh are cheapest at 5er plus vat so 6 per 2 years
#28
Hostnine have always been cheap and good for me. Can get 30% off too http://hostninecode.com/ .

It makes me cringe to see web hosts that use 'unlimited' or 'guaranteed 99.99% uptime' as their Terms of Service usually contradict their selling point by inducing a 'fair usage policy'.

It's not financially viable for a business to offer prices at such a low price and as a result I imagine they overload their boxes with thousands of websites..

whats the cheapest way to register a domain and keep privacy, as in not registered on whois
#33
Am I missing something, how did this get so much heat at 9.99?

Cheapest I can find:

https://order.1and1.co.uk/

2.49 first year then 2.99

Never had a problem with them. If its just buying a domain name what can go wrong?

I have used many hosts over the years as a web designer and I always come back to 1&1. Never had a problem and easy DNS, management etc. I do use others still though.

I tried a few 'unlimited space' providers and sometimes ran into problems, with control panel limitations.

There's so many host providers out there, all have their own benefits, depends on your needs.

This thread could run and run, but end of day, .co.uk domains shouldn't cost more than a couple of quid/year, and be the same price when renewal comes up too!

there are companies who do domain registration and DNS hosting below cost... but you're absolutely stuffed if something goes wrong.
One of the biggest problems people have is trying to transfer domains to another registrar, which you'll want to do when they screw up or go bust! In some cases they charge quite a high price to allow you to transfer your domain away - there are ways to get Nominet force this through but believe me when I say prevention is better than cure.

These cut-rate dns providers are likely to have virtually no technical support (or only via a premium rate number), or noone clueful to help.

Especially do not use non-UK registrars for UK domains, as a UK registrar and Nominet together will give you significant protection.

There is such a thing as too cheap. It doesn't matter how much you pay for a website design, and hosting, if the basic service of DNS doesn't let people find it!!!

My favourite domain registrars are http://internet.bs and http://www.totalregistrations.com
Both of them are ICANN and Nominet accredited.

I use internet.bs for the common TLDs such as .com and .co.uk for £4.71 and £2.99 per year respectively. For the odd ones such as .tc and .li, Total Registration (UK based) has a decent enough price for them.

NB: Internet.bs provides free private WHOIS for common TLDs. For .uk Nominet provide this facility for free as long as you register as an individual.

I personally would not use domain registrar such as 123-reg as they have many restrictions unless you pay extra to upgrade. Having said that, if you are a student and interested in Windows Hosting, do check 123-reg out as they are offering it at £12 per year witha free .biz domain.

In terms of "unlimited" Hosting , some of the ones I have use include http://www.hostmediauk.com,http://www.zyma.com and http://www.fasthostingdirect.co.uk. They are cheap and cheerful. Do check them out in details if you are interested (hostmediauk provides other options as well).

For those of you don't trust this "unlimited" thing, I would recommend signing up with a decent hosting companies with a small plan and make use of the cloud such as S3 on Amazon Web Service and Rackspace Cloud(UK). You could even have a static website on AWS entirely without EC2. Not the best option for newbies though.

PS. Check out http://domai.nr/ for some domain hacks :)

.co.uk - if not for a business - opt out
.com/.net etc - name cheap 1st year free privacy

Umlimited Bandwidth/Hosting - look out for the fair use type clause.

Many cheap hosting accounts offer 'unlimited' with an inode/file limit of 50,000

So NOT unlimited
