"99 most essential" - ha ha
As opposed to the 26 most essential; and most essential to whom? Marketing crap.

Got this last time it was on. Good selection but some of them are rather poor quality, most are good though for 192kbps.

I guess its a bit like your "greatest ever fantasy films" post. greatest ever to whom?

To the studio or label that released the films or recorded these ditties and wanted to shift them. Or perhaps by essential they actually mean popular AND rights-free.

At this price, even 26 most essential is a bargain! Nice one OP. Not a classicals fan either, but I'm these sound familiar.

There are lots of collections and all of them inevitably miss one or two tracks, but this has a lot of good ones and looks to be a good price. This would be good for someone who hasn't got a lot of classical music. It's amazing how many people listen to it and love it, in films, but who wouldn't think of it any other time.

Bought this as a download for £3 about a year ago, never listened to it,apart from an initial skip through to see how many I would know.Trouble is it seems a great price for alot of music, but the reality is there is always something on your ipod,or whatever you have, that you would prefer to listen to.Great price IF you actually listen to it.

Anyone actually listened to a full piece of classical music? I appreciate it but not for more than say 30 seconds.

I spend a few hours every day tuned to Classic FM you should give it a try, classical improves your mind and your soul

Yes I do, but i like this if I only have half an hour to spare. But then I only paid 99p for this some time ago. Heat added

I agree - not into the crap Classic FM strategy of a maximum of 4 minutes for a piece of classical.

Hot, but as someone who doesn't know any classical music by name, how do I choose between this and the 30-odd other albums at the same price? They can't all be 99 most essential.

If you preview the clips, you will hear some classics. I'm not into classical music at all but when you hear something on TV and think, yeah I know that and its quite good, well lots of them are on here.

Adagio for Strings is the music from the Platoon movie
Ride of the Valkyries - classic everyone will recognise
In the Hall of the Mountain King - Alton Towers advert music
Carmina Burana: O Fortuna - old spice advert

A great introduction for anyone who has heard bits of classical and doesn't know the composer or what it's called. Or for folk like me who would like a classics background music compilation CD and never got around to creating one....Bargain.

It's all about Crystal Castles.
