Similar to previous (and now expired) deals. basic AA cover for a tenner using quidco!

DON'T FORGET TO GO THROUGH QUIDCO

Roadside
This is the minimum level of cover and provides assistance if you've broken down at least 1/4 of a mile away from home. Our aim is to fix your vehicle and get you on your way, but if we are unable to do this within a reasonable time we will provide a local tow to the nearest suitable repairer.

Don't forget to put your Nectar card in too, I did and got 2,000 points as well!

COLD

If you are on holiday for example 200 miles away from home, they will not tow you back but take you to the nearest garage. If it is a weekend or evening you will be stuffed especially if you need a part which is not stocked even if they are open.

Good offer if you never drive more than walking distance from your home
#3
yes - roadside assistance will only tow you to the nearest garage, but they will also try to fix it at the roadside... and if you are stuck in the middle of nowhere £10 is a bargain to be towed to a nearby garage.

You've hit the nail on the head.
A friend of mine paid £160 to get towed 50 miles.

You're not very bright, are you?

If you use the Quidco and the 2000 Nectar points, this is free basic breakdown cover! Ofcourse it's the basic option, but it's still free. Surely a free tow to the nearest garage is better than nothing! :whistling:

Not too bad for the price i suppose but the towing part if they cant repair could put some off!!!.
I just renewed last month with mine. Had family(me & wife) on roadside recovery/relay.... they wanted to charge £125.00. Went through quidco and got the EXACT SAME cover as a new customer (by starting policy next day) for £97, then with the quidco cashback as well i ended up paying just £57 !!! About £70 quid less than they were going to charge for renewing:thumbsup::roll::roll:

Don't think it really deserves a cold vote does it? Even if you never use it, I fail to see how anyone could consider an end price of £10 for cover (no matter how basic) to be cold! Hot in my opinion.

The best option is to get the basic cover for this price, and THEN you can UPGRADE direct with the AA, last time i did it it cost £30.00 to upgrade to Roadside, Home Recovery and Onward Route to a package which at the time cost £110.00 - ((it was about 2 years ago)

Not sure on the price scales now, but i would of thought this would of been the cheap option of doing that again...

Looks like you have voted the deal COLD on the basis of what you want rather than what you get... the BASIC cover is normally £37.00

Has the price changed now? It's showing as £47 (-£17 = £30) through Quidco

If you do most of you travelling after 5pm or on weekends then it's not for you then, but if like the vast majority you're about during daylight then for almost no£'s this has got to be a bargain 'get me out of the here' deal. Then again you can't please all of the people can you..............
#12
cant beat it for a tenner
#13
Guys, sorry for stupid question but where you see the £27, when I click it the basic Roadside Cover comes with £47.
#14
even better, topcashback give £19 (not sure how reliable).

RAC with same breakdown cover also £29, cashback £20.

Unless they get your car home these cheap breakdown covers are a waste of time in my opinion.Taking to the nearest garage could cost you a fortune in repairs.
#17

exactly what i was going to say as this applies to the rac too.....i was going to a football match in manchester (from Reading) and my car broke down in birmingham - right next to the rac building lol...i only had the basic rac membership....luckily he managed to fix it, otherwise we would have been stuck in birmingham and missed the match - i now pay for the top aa option which with quidco @ £50, costs £110, alot more sure but good for piece of mind esp as i have a young family

true, esp on a motorway....dont understand people who have no cover - motorway tow on a bank hol for exanple could cost £00's (my bro was towed once on a sunday @0200ish- the recovery guy working as a sub contractor to green flag said it would have cost my bro £400 for the 100 mile tow to his house - this was about 15 years ago!!)

if you are along way from home and they tow your car to a garage and its an overnight fix, what will you do sleep in th gutter...not with a family in tow you wont.....get a hotel room, food etc...there goes your saving.....false economy really, sure its great its free but id rather have the top package - its £110 with quidco for the top package with 'joint' cover (quidco have paid up the £50 too)

if youmean they could rip you off...yes true...my dad have a repair on his ford escort done in a ford garage in swansea and it was such a bad repair the local ford garage in reading redid it for free - at my dad's insistence

The same happened to me in Google Chrome. I just tried IE 8 and it shows as £27.

So maybe it's not the right package for you then, but that doesn't make it a bad deal. They're a business, not a charity! Surely the only relevant way of weighing up this deal is what you get for a tenner here vs what the same would normally cost you.

hmm thats very strange, never known anything like that before

works anyway :) cheers

If i take this out, how much will it cost to upgrade the policy so that they take you to any destination? Don't need home start as I'll just register it do a different address.
#29
I can't get £27, I've tried with IE7/8, Firefox, Apple Safari and each shows £47.
#30
Shows as £47 for me using IE and Firefox. I'd say it's expired.
#31
Did this via QuidCo in February and it didn't track. Entered a query and am still awaiting a decision!
#32
A lot of people are forgetting what you are actually paying for here.

You are not simply getting a tow to a local garage. You are getting a guy to come out to you where ever you are, and will attempt to fix your car there and then.

Say you are in a car park somewhere and need a jump start? For £10 I don't think you can complain at all really (assuming quidco tracks).

I personally get the upgraded relay and home start service free through my bank.
#33
Coming up at £47 here too. The RAC one looks better now. . .
#34
Happened to me twice. Just either a) clear all cookies and history or b) use a browser that you have never used to visit the site previously.

Also, thearbiter65 (post #33) is spot on - most problems fixed at roadside and well worth 10 squid even if not.

Only thing I would warn on is Quidco tracking. So I went for the £29 deal last time and £20 M&S vouchers instead, which as I spend more than that each week @ M&S was a much better deal for me!

Agreed, cant see how this deal could be have been cold. There's nothing stopping you from upgrading the cover to something you would prefer is there? You are still make a saving.

Unfortunately my car is 10 years old anyway :-(

Its a Waste of time....

Trust me i work for the AA/RAC/GREEN FLAG etc etc doing Recoverys
U mite be very lucky & get the simple breakdowns fixed at the roadside then thats fine.
But like most folks are saying just think if your even 50miles from home. Nevermind 300miles
Whos going to foot the bill to get you back esp after 5pm & the weekends..
Its around £1.00 a mile inc VAT for us to move any Vehicles anywhere in the UK & You Pay for the Miles both ways...
I would personally pay the extra & get RELAY/RECOVERY everytime.
1 day u will need it !!

Also remember the AA will pay i think its the first 50miles if your a member but you pay double for the rest if you dont have RELAY.... & ring them to upgrade your membership there & then.

:whistling:
#37
I have had AA cover for years and of all the times I have used them I have either had the car fixed by the side of the road or they dropped me at home and took my car to a garage as it was 11pm and the car was fixed (at my cost) then next day. I will prob upgade my cover to Relay as I am doing 200 mile trips home each weekend.

I wasn't aware they only let you get cover on cars up to 10yrs old though! My Audi is a 2000 model so will be 10yrs soon and apart from 1 break down in this car it has been very reliable. Probably more reliable than a 2-3yr old car from a more dubious manufacturer.

Question: I just auto-renew with the AA. Is there any benefit to my loyalty or should I cancel my auto-renewal and just flip between the AA and RAC each year and get Quidco?
#38
A note for people. Greenflag is £20 too. A price is given depending on what car you have. Mine was £25.40 so £5.40 for the year.

Not using AA as didn't get my quidco 2 years ago as I used the 2-1 code so they declined my quidco even though it doesn't say anything in the terms.
#39
I do this every year - alternate between Green Flag, RAC & AA - All of which comes to about £10 after quidco.

Just got my £21 RAC cashback for a £33 policy
#40
If you register for this at a friends address - you automatically get homestart free - think about it.

All you need to do is pick a friend who stays on a hill longer than the homestart distance :whistling: :whistling: :whistling:
