Sounds a good price for just Roadside Assistance, but as I wanted more cover I found Green Flag very reasonable.
For £61 and £35 Quidco cashback (so only £26 total) you get recovery plus which includes:

Roadside assistance
We offer 24 hours roadside assistance, 365 days a year.
Local vehicle recovery
If your vehicle cannot be fixed at the roadside, we'll recover your vehicle to either a destination of your choice or a suitable repairer, both within 10 miles of the incident.
No callout charges
We won’t charge to come out to assist you.
Message service
We'll send a free message to your friends and family so they know what's happened.
Cover at home
If your vehicle breaks down at home, we'll come and assist you.
Long distance recovery
We'll take you and your vehicle home or to your preferred location.
Options if it can't be fixed
If we can't repair your vehicle locally that day we'll give you a hire car or alternatives. For example, the cost for alternative transport or overnight accommodation.
Cash to collect your vehicle
Cost of a single standard rail fare to collect your vehicle.

Compared to £141 with AA and £50 Quidco.

Only thing to watch is I believe Green Flag prices vary on age of vehicle, mine was 4 years old, so quotes could vary.

May be of help to people that want full cover.

Have you chased these payments?

Must depend on a lot of factors. Just got a quote from Green Flag and it comes out at £107.10!

With greenflag I was quoted £79 for the same options as you a few days ago, car is 7 years old (just) and can get £30 cashback with TCB... so £49 for me.
I'm still debating whether to get it or not, have had breakdown cover on this car for the last 2 years and not used it once... not even come close to needing it. But knowing my luck it'd be when I have no cover that the car would start playing up

I drove my car for five years with coverage. Didn't realise that it hadnt renewed in my 6th year due to some bank reason, and within a month I was stuck on the side of the motorway. Charged me £150 for a years coverage because i needed it there and then, so always worth having it :w00t:

Yeah I know, happened to me before with a different car I had too.... but money's a bit tight at the moment and paying out £50 for something you may never need is a tough choice. On the other hand though if I don't get it and am stuck by the side of a country road or something, then have to pay £150 to get it towed or whatever.
Ok, i'm buying some, LOL

Do a comparison check on moneysupermarket.com

A couple of very good cheap ones that come with virtually ALL the levels of cover for under £40!!! are rescuemycar.com and startrescue.co.uk.

For what its worth, firstly get a better package not the 28 quid one. I got the £100 one and as you can see from the pic got the cashback in 2 months?? Very good I think. Just remember next year they will bill your card after a reminder. Make sure you cancel and re-join.

I can certainly recommend Autonational. Normally the price is £88 if you've had a breakdown in the last year, but if you haven't it's £66.

Total SuperService from Autonational Rescue

If you want to be covered for all breakdown eventualities, then this is the service for you. With Total SuperService – our top of the range, all-inclusive package – you'll benefit from all the Autonational Rescue services: roadside assistance, recovery to any UK destination, home breakdown, emergency travel or accommodation and even covers your caravan or small trailer whilst attached.
In brief

» Includes all our breakdown services
» Message SuperService to let your family and colleagues know about the breakdown
» Free emergency telephone number

Also if you join online it's 15months cover for the price of 12. Plus you can get Quidco back as well.

I have had Autonational for a few years now and when having to use them in the past they have been fine.

I'm with RAC at the moment which is due to expire at the end of next month. Is there any way of postponing the start date with AA like you can with the RAC?
#22
Cheers for this, I hope it tracks!!
#23
Just a word of warning if you choose the lowest package to start with

I joined RAC last August with similar offer. In November I had a bad flu and stayed at home for 2.5 weeks, then my 3 years old VW's battery failed. Because I parked in my own garage, local kwikfit, halfords etc can only help me if I can get to them. RAC wanted £100 to upgrade to the package with home start and the expiry date remain unchanged at August 2010.

What a joke, no way I will renew the membership with them. If I dont ring them soon I will definately get charged another £28 this August automatically.
#24
I took out breakdown cover AND fully comp car insurance with the AA last year, ran it through Quidco, and the AA refused to pay out on either cashback so I lost £80.
Be warned!!:x

I've always got them to tow my car to or from home on the basic package by giving them my parents address (who I seldom visit)!

After going through all the comparison sites the AA came up cheapest for my car insurance renewal and they threw the breakdown cover in as well.
#28
I haven't had breakdown cover for 18 years. I broke down once and paid £110 for emergency cover. I'm quids up.
I won't be joining anyone, any day soon.

yes, the paddypower has been going on for four months.
I do think that everybody who uses cashback sites have good and bad experiences. Unfortunately, mine is bad with TCB at least Quidco keep in touch on a regular basis, TCB just leave unanswered queries for months on end.

I went for the green insurance company. Use ethical10 for 10% off it comes to about £28 for the best possible cover (onward travel, roadside repairs, home starts etc) https://www.greeninsurancecompany.co.uk/breakdownbol/

Dont do it ! I was with the AA for 20 years when i finally needed them they said sorry because i was not covered due to a stupid rule of distance. :? Phoned the rac from my broken down vehicle and joined and they where there in 20 minutes !!!! :-D
#32
Went for Green Flag in the end....35 quid cashback from Quidco too so came out as £29 wtih everything except European travel.
#33
Hmmm, had a look at the greeninsurancecompany breakdown cover, comes to £58 for me with key cover protection..... but then I noticed in the policy wording that it says you are NOT covered if your key(s) aren't attached to their keyfob they provide, which is a problem for me because mine is one of the card immobilizer type ones (no key as such) and has nowhere to attach anything.
Up 'til that point I was thinking of going with them... now I'm back to square one.

Just to point out (ignore me if you read this part) but on the Quidco site at the end of the description info for Green flag it will mention you need to verify your account once you receive your Green Flag letter. Within 24 hours of the transaction tracking you will get a reminder to verify the transaction under your name on the main Quidco screen. Just enter your Green Flag account number once you get it.

Thought I would mention it as I only just noticed it and not seen these verification forms before....

I recently received a Quidco payment that took 8 months! (Aviva insurance) At least Quidco did respond promptly when I queried it and the date they gave for the payment due ended up being spot on. Just took a long time.
#36
I've been waiting 9 months for Quidco to pay out from Swiftcover. At first it got declined, and then when challenged it got accepted in February. Since then I've been told wait 120 days for it to come through. I waited longer than that, then asked and was told they are apparently negotiating with the middle man, those ad companies who handles these things and will get paid, eventually!

I have said I might take them to the small claims court if it never gets paid, only it's finding out who to sue!

I only took this insurance because with the cashback it was a good deal, but without it it's not so good.

Cashback sites are surely due for a Trading Standards investigation.

Although it's frustrating waiting for payments, and more so not getting them, it's why you should always look at cashback as an 'extra' if you get it. Don't go for any purchase relying on the cashback making it a 'good deal'.

Hope you get yours sorted though.
#38
Shock
So you wanted them to give you a service that you have not payed for?

I am sure I can get a brand new fresh package for less than/ roughly £100 with home start from somewhere with more cashback easily. £100 to upgrade and I only have 8 months remaining on the cover is simply unacceptable.

I am trying to say, either go for a higher package to start with if you think you are likely to break down at home (like I am abroad 4months per year). Or dont bother with it at all if you have a reliable new car. In the past I have been told by their rep I can phone to buy a cover with them and call out a rescue striaght away.
#39
A good deal, but only if cashback paid.

Very unsure of Topcashback as I bought a Vodafone sim only deal with £90 cashback.
That was end of March no cash yet - still pending status.

Not happy.
#40
Quidco tracks @ £42 for policies of £75-99, and £50 for over £100
