I have spent ages (ok, half an hour) looking for the best deal for breakdown cover that would include a caravan if we were to break down while towing, and it's quite difficult to find the info. So I rang The AA, and lo and behold, they will include a caravan for no extra charge on any policy. There are limitations - max 3.5tonne, 2.4m width, but I think the majority of vans should be fine with that. So whatever policy you've got, your caravan is covered to the same limit. You don't need to tell them, it's just automatically covered if you're towing it while you break down.

Basic cover from £27 online, less £17 cashback = £10. This will tow car and caravan to the nearest garage if it can't be fixed at roadside.

But for £20 extra, take out the Relay option for £77 and get £40 through Topcashback/Quidco, so it's only costing £37 for full cover - that's the car & caravan to any UK destination.

Even for those who (for some unknown reason) don't use cashback sites, it's helpful to know that you don't have to pay extra for caravan cover.

Fully expecting lots of cold votes, as caravans just aren't cool enough for the majority of you dudes...

I was coming to the end of inclusive cover now my Mitsubishi Lancer is nearly 3 years old, and had found cover including home and recovery for £47 with LV who I have just renewed insurance with by having to take out a new policy, not a renewal (and saving 50-odd quid that way!) then I found a cheaper one and was going to go on 37 quid (without bothering with any cash back sites) with Green Insurance: http://www.greeninsurancecompany.co.uk/breakdowncover.html this also had to include caravan & trailer cover.

I was all ready to take it up to commence next week, then found I needn't - as I get my car serviced by a Mitsubishi dealer then they will extend the existing cover for just £17.99 a year, including even European cover too (which I don't normally use!) so Mitsubishi owners, be aware of this - it isn't dependant on taking extra mechanical insurance after the 3 year warranty, it can be renewed yearly as long as your servicing is up to date, until the car is 10 years old.

(I was pleasantly amazed when they only charged me £25+vat for the MOT test too, I had resigned to it being a bit of a rip off!)

Thought for a moment that was a tenner for the insurance and a free caravan!
#5
Can you please advise where it confirms about caravan as I can not see this on the site.

Well it will be with a company linked from there, not from them!

Most companies do offer caravan cover as standard to be honest, but you do need to be careful in case they have exclusions. One problem I hadn't noticed before, but did whilst I was checking round this time, it appears that ALL of the companies do not guarantee to recover your pets - I have never heard any not do so in practice, but ALL the companies I looked at had some sort of get-out clause for pets/animals! :-(

I never miss off the Home start option though, as half of the breakdowns I have ever had over the years have been very close to home, (most comapnes exclude you from calling them out on stabndard cover within a certain distance from home) and while it is easy enough to get home, it doesn't get the car started and sorted, you can still come back to it up on bricks(!) and if you can't get it going yourself, it will still cost to get someone out to sort it, and you won't get far unless you are two car family, which I am NOT now! For 8 quid difference., it's not worth leaving off!

Caveat emptor (buyer beware) to all i used a deal just like this one 2years ago and the AA declined my Quidco payment £20 with no reason what so ever!
#9
£10 IF Quidco track it... (and that's a BIG IF, as they are not normally very good at that based on my experiences - some would say very 'convenient' for them)

Can we give your caravan to charity ie. top gear?
#11
Isnt the price different for everyone, they go by what car you drive, year..ect??
#12
Agree on the quidco thing....I still haven't received my 40£ back for an RAC cover from last year.
#13
do you get an en suite bucket?

Anyone know the best cover for a VW Transporter LWB T4 surf van? I'm also interested in European cover as i'm off to France for 3 weeks in it!
#15
are both AA and RAC bad on quidco as I was looking at getting some AA cover due to the current quidco offers but may try and go else where if the tracking is poor
#16
Shame the quidco is only £40 now. I went for roadside and relay and it worked out at £25 for the year. Bargain!!!
#17
Far better deal is to do RAC personal cover paid for with Tesco clubcard vouchers.
Cover for me and the wife is £34 of vouchers. That covers us for any car we're either driving or passenger in. Roadside and UK recover back to any UK address.
#18
I can`t get AA cover as my car is just over 10 years old.
#19
RAC offer to recover caravan in the event that the CAR breaks down. However if the caravan has the fault (eg puncture, etc.) - no deal. Is this the same arrangement as with the AA I wonder.
#20
For all those with Quidco problems as mentioned above..... why bother.

I have said it before but Rpoints pricematch any other cashback site and their tracking is A1, Buy via Rpoints and do a Highest Cashback promise, your quids i with no agro.... easy.
#21
I work at the RAC and we recover the caravan FOC if the CAR has broken down.

If the Caravan itself has an issue and the car is fine, it's not covered. This is where you need the Caravan & Camping add-on.

I'm assuming the AA stance is the same.

On a related note - through F&F I get a certain discount (not sure at the mo if it's 10% or 25%) which runs year on year (get the same discount each year) plus free jiont cover in the first year. Not the place to advertise that but I thought I'd give it a quick mention. If anyone's interested, I'd be happy to assist.

i got roadside cover with rac for £28. and got £21 back through quidco. so a years cover for £7. thats a much better deal.

It's not just the tracking, even that is no guarantee that you will get paid out on quidco.

Yes you can :-D!!! Personal cover will cover you in any vehicle:thumbsup:, except comercial vehicles. So the age of the vehicle is only taken into consideration on a vehicle based membership:w00t:.

The AA will recover your caravan if it was to breakdown and couldn't be repaired, in a reasonable time. Leaving you and your passengers to continue your journey, in your vehicle. Thats if you have relay.:)

Quidco tracked my AA in April, validated it, but it still hasn't paid out. Just keeps rolling over. Good luck

AA tracked & paid fine for me. Brought mid-March, quidco paid in May.

I brought RAC first & that tracked fine too (but declined as I cancelled - changed my mind & went for AA)

Same here, looked everywhere for one that covers pets, but no luck. Over the years I've had a lot of breakdowns & often been towed by the AA & so far the AA have never refused to take my dog along. :)

Anyone know the price to include Europe? (Or do they not do that?)
1 Like #32
Oxter, have a look at www.vehicle-rescue.com - no endorsement as I've never used them, but they caught my eye because of the low European price, £67.95 fully comp (they say - I've not investigated fully) cover inc caravans and Europe.

I'm really surprised to hear so many Quidco problems - I've had over £3k between Quidco and Topcashback in the past 2 or 3 years and only ever put in 2 manual claims, both of which they paid. I think a lot of people forget to clear their cookies before doing it, which is why it doesn't track. I prefer TCB myself, but always quote Quidco as everyone knows what it is.

Sorry didn't reply to this - dunno why! I got Green Flag through Royal Bank Royalties a/c (enhancement to free cover) and it was very cheap and excellent cover .
