these things are great.......fun! i got 3 for 12 quid, never used them as part of a workout but cant beat the laughs and fun you can have with them after a few beers with you and some friends seeing who can take the most pain on various parts of your body :-D and believe me these little things can be seriously painful!

They do work - although I could not tell you if that one does - but the ones I have tried were on pads that could be placed anywhere rather than just on your stomach.

They wont give you a six pack - as most people actually have a six pack - but its fat over it that prevents its being seen. If you lost the fat then did crunches (like sit ups but less risk of injury) for a week then you would have a six pack from the muscle tone that arrived in that week.

These machines wont work to make you loose weight as they are often advertised to do, as they only exercise a couple of muscle groups at a time, and will only burn a fraction of the kcal of jogging, cycling, swimming, or even walking.

They send electrical impulses to the muscle which forces a contraction in the muscle - and the good ones can vary the style of the contraction to control the muscle perfectly. It is called EMS (Electro Muscle Stimulation) and is slightly similar to TENS only works on muscles instead of nerves - but some machines can be used for both.

I used one after I injured my tendon badly while jogging, which meant while the tendon was healing (which takes ages) the muscles were still exercised, even when I could not put weight on my foot properly.

Professional athletes also use them while travelling to events. You can also use them for warming muscles up when going to an event etc.

The machine I used is the one that was used by the British Army - and was made by Bodi Tek. Nothing in their spec mentions anything about making you lose weight or fat.

100% portable and includes long life pads.

Argos sell the older style type I used (Elite 2).

The types used by athletes are generally like the nigher priced type made my Compex, and cost in the range of 5 to 8 hundred quid (although are generally far cheaper on mainland Europe or the US than here).
