I went for a Onguard Pitbull (Sold Secure Silver) and Onguard Akita Extender Cable to wrap through tyres and forks. The bracket is crap (don't use) but the lock is good. I thought it was a good balance of protection and cost (though the cost of a new bike is more).

There are some scary videos on You Tube showing how quickly a dedicated thief can get into a lock. Even scary is the video of some guy deliberately breaking into his own bike lock in increasingly blazen fashion on the middle of some US city and no one challenges him.
Sold secure gold and good reviews

Nothing but an Almax
A Kryptonite lock is what I would go for, it's costly but if you value your bike at all...

aren't they the ones you can open with a pen X)
Many moons ago yep!
They changed the design years ago. Most cyclists seem to use Kryptonite, so they must be doing something right.
I'm bitter as I have had a bike stolen. Cheap lock...expensive mistake. Might just be that I'm more wary but having had a Kryptonite..my bike is still MY bike :D
