Alternative to the WD Live and others.
Generally considered Top equal to the WD TV Live at the sub £100 mark.

To get this with Free P&P be a member of AV Forums (or others, maybe Hexus)

This is the BEST price I have seen for one of these, normally over £80.

A.C.Ryan Mini brings a whole new level of Quality and price to the Range of MKV/H.264 Media Players. Not only is it the same quality as its Big Brother but also its the same performance as its using the same Realtek chipset not only is this item the cheapest on the market but one of the best for quality and Speed.

You're much better off with the Western Digital TV Live HD over this for its massive user support forums, hacked firmware and official Youtube support straight out of the box for just £13.50 more at Amazon.

Not as good or as cheap as the Sumvision MKV player
#8
Sumvision MKV is based on the same realtek as AC Ryan so they aren't all that different.

Sumvisions are know for fail more than both the WD and Ryan, especially their latest slim model. It suffers from major over heating. I've returned x2 to scan already lol

Internal components doesn't mean they are necessarily as good as each other, that's like saying all graphic cards, motherboards etc are as good as each other as they have the same chipset on board and we all know that isn't the case.

Software development and hardware design plays a key roll. Sumvision is bottom end and just chucked together as far as im concerned, which would explain the high failure rate.

Absolutely agree, it was just a quick response to a ill informed comment. The AC Ryan is a far superior machine, great support forums and developments. The new GUI looks great.

I would be a bit peed off. What does it say about returns.
#15
It says they will return, she said they wont pay the postage until I read the trading standards rules to her, then she huffed.

Sumvisions are much more reliable than AC Ryan. I had an AC Ryan and had to send it back 9 times. My Sumvision has never developed a fault, that's because it's a far superior and reliable machine

9 times? Yah right, after the 3rd or the 4th I would have given up, but you went on to return again and again and again ?

I am afraid it is well known that ac ryan are much better at turning round official and beta firmware than wd, moreover though WD has b-rad writing a hacked firmware, this is not really where the difference lies.

I still do not know which to get, but the reason you give do not tilt the balance.

Moreover, you spent enough to buy a HTPC the popcorn hour is at least 3x the price of this!

My AC Ryan has been brilliant. My Sumvision however had to be returned an astonishing 246 times.

That's a good point. Not only are Sumvisions of a superior build quality and more reliable, but they have better customer services to boot. Yet another reason to rate the Sumvision MKV as better than the notoriously flaky AC Ryan Playon HD

this is a great streamer and a great price. i've had mine for a while, and used it every day. it plays almost everything you can throw at it. the manufacturer pays attention to it's own forums and other online forums and improves firmware based on user comments. there are also a few user hacked firmwares

recently they previewed the brand new firmware which looks amazing and is due out by the end of the year (ie the next few weeks)

this model also comes with a 24 month warranty, which is printed on the box

i recently got another streamer for the other room, using the same realtek chipset, and it's only after seeing another model that i can really see how great the playon is. the build quality is great, and it just works well

i don't know much about the sumvision that some have mentioned, but i was talking to a guy at work who had one and said it was great, and likewise played everything he threw at it. from what i understand, the playon has better passive cooling than the sumvision, and has better build quality, and is generally a better quality machine, although usually a small bit more expensive than the sumvision, but i think this price makes it a close comparison

whilst i was glad to get another competing model to see the differences, i must say the playon is a great streamer and highly recommended. this is also the best price i've seen in a long time, although i did get mine slightly cheaper a few months ago, and the other streamer i got recently was slightly cheaper than that. there are other streamers that are maybe £10 or so cheaper than this, but for the sake of £10 it's worth getting such a good quality machine, particularly in light of the new firmware that's coming soon
