Fully agree, have owned one for over a year with no problems. However would consider paying the extra and going for the mini 2 with faster chip set and gui 2. also it has gigabit lan

definitely better going for the 2nd gen ac ryan players with the faster chipset.

Although the new software is out for the older model it runs very poorly and slow. It was designed for the new model so i am not surprised. I have the several media streamers and found the ac ryan to be the best so far. For the extra 15 squid it would be wise to go for the new one.

I am considering the new AC Ryan Mini 2 and the WDHD TV Live. Loads of info on the WD + custom firmwares, but know next to nothing about the new AC Ryan. Anyone got any useful info comparing the 2?

I love this model. It plays everything I need, from FLAC to MP3 to AVI to MKV.

The new (slow!) firmware that people are referring to is not an stable release - in other words, it's been put out to the public for testing purposes only. Stick to the latest stable firmware, and you'll be fine.

The AC Ryan is more capable but not quite as usable (it's not as flashy but perfectly usable) if at a very good price point you want a good player get a second hand mini1 (easily under £50) off of ebay and revert the firmware to one of the SDK2 versions
People have expected too much from the admittedly AC Ryan hype of the latest GUI2 version of the firmware for the existing AND new Ryans but the old ones still are the best ones just for the abilities of the player AND for the price..

I have a WDHD TV Live networked and running well but menus are clunky. I hear there is a WDHD TV Plus around that is an improvement and worth waiting for but can't find it in UK yet

Thanks for the info. I found some reviews of the new mini2. I have gone for the WDHDTV Live in the end. HD audio is of no interest, and, for me, that was the only negative when comparing the 2. I will use one of the custom firmwares (b-rad) as they look so cool. When I looked at the Live Plus, it only seems to be available Stateside, and seemed to only offer extra online content, but I could be wrong here.
