I was looking for a laptop for a month or so and dug up some info so hopefully it helps. I would like to warn people this is a Pentium Dual Core NOT a Core Duo!

I think the deals posted by col are better as the T2060 is a cut down version of the Core Duo T2050 with half the cache which is £50 cheaper ... but if you need vista then I would say the Core 2 Duo one for £342 is a better deal then this! I know this one has a bigger HD but with the really cheap external HD's its easy to get more space when you need it!

If the need the bigger screen then go for the £50 cheaper one posted by col and upgrade to vista when its all finally been sorted and the first service pack has arrived!

Hope this helps :)

The op laptop has a T2060, which is a cut-down T2050. So this laptop /does/ have a Core Duo. Also see here, particularly the CPU-Z ID screenshot: http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/Intel-Pentium-Dual-Core-T2060ftopic-221072-days0-orderasc-25.html

is the amount of Cache affect the speed of the laptop?
Not to a great extent. For most tasks you won't notice it. You would notice it for digital media production, for example rendering or encoding, and in games, but this laptop wouldn't be your first choice for those things anyway.

Quoting from that same site

Pentium Dual Core T2060" is little more than a budget Core Duo T2050 with half the L2 cache (the T2050 has 2MB). Performance is estimated to be less than that of the T2050, and on par with the AMD Turion X2 TL-50 (1.6GHz/2x256kb L2)

Just ordered one of the £330 Acers... registered, paid, got notification then saw this:

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/product.php?sku=469899

kicking myself a bit now... for a few extra pounds I could have had more power and more storage!

I hope it helps someone else!

Anyone know how easy/hard it is to change out the hard drive on the Acer's ?
I quite fancy a new one but all the models with 120 gig h/d's have gone...

thats unfortunate you've had bad experience as they, like Dell, HP and most notable others, are not true notebook manufacturers. They are assemblers. True escpecially when you consider they (Acer) have their kit made for them by the guys who make most Dell - Compal, Quanta and Wistron. That said of course - Acer, like veryone else in the world bar FSC, are kicking Dell's butt in global notebook share just now
