Seems like a well made, stylish ultra-portable. Lack of optical drive, HDMI and weak graphics are obvious negatives. Oh and it's brown, but..er..nice brown.

HDMI a negative?

edi: ahhhh, lack of HDMI i guess is what you meant

i think this is a great laptop, only got the x4500m hd, but thats meant to be fine for watching hd video and stuff, dont expect to do any real gaming on this laptop, but if you stick a copy of windows 7 it will fly in all office/media tasks

Hardly - this one has an ultra slow AMD Neo 1.6GHz processor as opposed to the Intel Core 2 Duo P7450 (3M Cache, 2.13 MHz, 1066 MHz FSB).

I posted the same deal while ago when I was deciding which one to buy of the two models.

In that it's nicer looking, but nothing else...

It has a better GPU, an optical drive and HDMI. :whistling:

I'd agreed until I noticed the weaker cpu
But yours is Windows 7, while the other needs batteries and has the awful Vista.

Not the lightest around...will be 2.2 kg I reckon with a charger. I haven't yet seen a 'great' laptop from Acer...they have all been of suspect quality in my opinion.

you say better gpu, but only ba tiny tiny bit, you couldn't play a game which the x4500hd couldn't they are both rubbish, the new gma hd you get witht eh new i3 cpus is better than both by quite a margin.

I'd go with that HP DM3 anyday
you don't want a power hungry CPU anyways
ultra portability means running without a battery charger and still have a decent sized screen.
I've done some reformatting on acers laptop before and tbh they feel cheap keyboard flex. ****** screen, kreaky casing etc.

They are cheap for a reason, also been said for Dells.

The P7450 is actually very power efficient - only 25W TDP and it also idles at around 800MHz which means that it draws very little power when idle - I bet it draws less than the AMD Neo cpu.

Bargain! 13.3" laptops usually sell at a premium but this is a great price, especially given the CPU and DDR3 memory. Lack of HDMI and Optical drive don't worry me either, the former I can live without and the latter is good as it saves weight, with this notebook coming in at 1.9KG. Very very tempted to swap my MacBook White for one.
#16
Finished to quite a high standard too with a nice keyboard and textured palmrest, just like you would expect on a more premium laptop.

I presume you have some experience with this specific model to make a comment like that?

I ran a Aspire One for 12 months with no issues. May buy this, but again only keep for the warranty period.

I have this same laptop, using it now - bought before Christmas for a bit more than this from laptops direct. Wanted something compact, 13" but a bit more beefy than a netbook, lack of hdmi no problem for me. No complaints with the performance, plays 1080p no problem. Also Acer do a 'free' (p&p cost only) upgrade to windows 7 with this model which I got. Really well finished looks a lot more expensive that it is.

This is my first Acer laptop, and definitely think its better built than my previous old dells, up there with my work HP / ibm laptops. Based on this model my impression of Acer is far from ****, unlike the previous poster - not sure on what basis this impression was taken from, but to me its hot air.

Its a great laptop for the money, definitely recommend it.

Thanks for that useful post.

Any ideas whether the HD is 1.8 or 2.5?

Its a great looking machine - I saw it in the flesh last week and thought it was awesome.

Only thing I need is an optical drive - any idea if its possible to add an internal dvd drive or alternatively, is it possible to but the same Acer model with a built-in DVD drive for a reasonable amount?

thanks
