Asda, in Cambridge at least, have 8 of these in stock. They first put boxes out on display Monday and I went back twice before I had luck. They have blue and black ones.

What's special about them is they have 11" 1366x768 hires screens, when most netbooks have only 1024x600 or worse.

Other specs are typical: 1GB ram, 160GB drive, SD/SDHC card reader, 802.11b/g wifi (not N), three USB, VGA socket, 10/100 ethernet (not gigE) and headphone + microphone audio sockets.

They're not the highest performers with an Atom Z520, but good enough to do web browsing*, email etc.

most reviews quote a good battery life as standard

Battery: Lithium-Ion (6 Cells) 4400mAh
Battery Life: Up to 7 hours

the Asda spec says 4 hrs , could this have a cheaper 3 cell battery ?
#6
my battery is rated at 10.8V, 2200mAh (UM09A31 for tech freaks :-), and is quite small, so I guess it's the 3 cell battery.

Looks like the standard battery is the 3 cell one, although some reviewers might have reviewed it with the 6-cell battery .
pocket-lint "Battery life is a killer point in netbooks and it is a shame that you'll only achieve the cited 8 hours of life if you buy the additional 6-cell, 5200mAh battery. From the standard battery we squeezed just over 3 hours. Once you add in Wi-Fi or 3G, perhaps Bluetooth too, then it will come in well below this figure, making it rather average in this sector. "

Shame about the poor keyboard.

why has this been expired? saw loads of these at the ASDA at Hulme, Manchester.

testing it this evening I got a good three hours with it quite busy downloading windows patches; the small battery does keep the weight down, it is very light but doesn't feel particularly flimsy.

the touchpad is a little small, but the screen is lovely, and the keyboard quite useable.

the performance is definitely adequate rather than great - the samsung nc10 I sometimes use at work is much better.

BTW, it has a recovery partition on the hard drive but no recovery disks.

I think Asda are box-shifting these units are there are some with slightly differing specs. This can only be picked up off the code on the side of the box generally. I bought one from my local Asda which has got the 6-cell battery and the battery life under stress (downloading, using apps etc) it over 6 hours...on normal net surfing its just over 7 hours.

I can't recommend this laptop highly enough, but check the model codes on the side as I think Asda (although they are getting the 751 model in general) may be getting mixed shipment loads based on specs.

I have also had a Samsumg NC10 and currently own a Q310 Samsung. The Acer is up there with them in terms of quality and spec.

[FONT=Verdana]How did you manage to get it that cheap? Was it being advertised at that price within the store?

Looking at the site the blue one comes with 3 cell and the black with 6

Reading reviews the CPU lets it down

shame as this ticks all the other boxes for what I want

damn, just my luck to have wanted a blue one just to be different.

still, I am pleased with it, the lightness and the quality

it is overclockable, but people have found you can't push it too far, even if you put faster memory in, despite the Z520 CPU being capable of quite high speeds, it becomes unstable and crashes or benchmarks indicate corrupted data.

BTW, mine is blue, and it doesn't have bluetooth.

Did anyone get a black one and found it has bluetooth? I am wondering how cheap/easy it would be to retrofit it. Luckily it has three USB ports and there's a DealExtreme microscopic bluetooth dongle for only a couple of pounds.

BTW2, mine appears to have gigabit ethernet, not 10/100 as the Asda display stand suggested.

What is better this Acer or the Samsung N10?
#23
the only difference I see is

Acer Screen 11.6
Samsung Screen 10.1

but the Samsung has a better processor at 1.6 Ghz and the Acer with 1.33Ghz

I don't suppose anyone has a black 3 cell battery they'd like to relinquish either by sale or by swap with a 6 cell black battery?
