After today's DELL deal, everything else looks really cold...
#3
Which dell deal?
#4
Great to see some heat on something that isn't Dell.

Quite an achievement on this Dell fansite.

Hot for me although it could do with a memory upgrade.
#5
Thanks for the Post. I've been looking for a laptop bargain and this one fitted the Bill .. I've been looking for a lappy that isn't Dell. I've also ordered a memory upgrade from Crucial :-D

I went to Amazon via the Nectar Card website so I can get the points for that too :-D

what is today's dell deal?

best dell deal for similar price http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/191408/dell-vostro-1510-1-8ghz-c2d-2gb-160/

I think dell make new deals every week on thrusday, so you'll have to wait a couple of days, correct me if i'm wrong though.

Voted hot though, although, personally i'd go for the dell above, if you need a 17" laptop, not going to get much better for price than this.

Dell fansite or not yesterday's deal was 10 times better than this one or similar others. And that's a fact.
#9
Its only a dell fansite because the dell deals are hot....this however, is not.

Very true, you get a crazy amount for your money with Dell.

Cold on this I'm afraid.
#11
If this deal goes above 712 deg like the Inspiron 1525 I went for then this will have been a fantastic deal I have missed out on.
#12
Bought one of these from tesco a few months back. Good desktop replacement if you don't want to do anything that thrapes the processor too much.
#13
personally i wouldnt go for acer, just got rid of one in exchange for a dell XPS. cant tell you how many problems the acer caused me. my 4 year old dell inspiron was better than the 2 year old higher spec acer
banned#14
cold, the dell vostro 5010 is better
#15
i agree...

The only advantage the acer has is the screen size which is 17", but that takes a lot of power, therefore battery most likely won't last very long.

The dell on the otherhand has a Intel 1.8GHz C2D processor, 160GB hdd, has a good battery life and is also slightly cheaper too

Dell is the clear winner for me.
#16
Any decent DELL laptops on a the minute, I could do with a new one ?

Cheers
#17
ps, can you remove the operating system from the Dell laptops to save further ? Got enough OS licences to last me a lifetime !
#18
No chris, you can't remove op systems, but you can upgrade them usually at further costs
#19
Hideous, get an Eeep you wont be disappointed

For the love of zombie jesus, do not buy acers. I have one half of an acer laptop connected to a CRT LOL. The display died a day after the warranty period. The same thing happened to a friends acer as well. Even though their telesales team sucks, Dells are a few magnitudes above acers in buildquality and materials.
#21
Cold. Acer laptops are pants. I've had 3 conk out, all 'just' out of warenty.

I'm using one now and it is as slow as hell with vista, 1 gig of memory is no way near enough! plus shared video memory, battery is turds and the fan is noisy. Cost £399 a few months back.

All the posts about how much better value Dell is - but no-one's posted a Dual Core Dell with a 17" Trubrite (equivalent of this laptop's glossy screen) for under £300, and in my opinion the comparison with equivalents is the standard by which this deal should be judged. If you want a cheap and moderately powerful laptop with a very good and big screen this is great, and hard to beat for the price. Yes, memory is an important upgrade but its only £12 per Gb at the moment. I find the battery lasts around 1hr 45 with wifi on, which is perfectly acceptable for a desktop replacement laptop.

hot as for me

This isn't actually true, and certainly not for a sub £300 laptop. For the average user a 1.8Ghz Dual Core is absolutely fine when you upgrade the RAM to 2Gb - compared to whatever else is around at this price.

Some people (I'm one) would only consider a 17" screen - different people have different requirments for portability, which is fine. Personally for what I use my laptop for I'll take this with its big screen over any 15" Dell have got at the same price - my point was just that this and the Dell laptops may have different markets and what one person requires isn't the same as someone else - in light of some of the posts above I thought this was an important point to make. The only equivalents I've seen to this Acer lately have been Advent refurbs on the DSG sites going for around £270.
#27
I agree with Fatal Swan, this offer is for people who require a 17 inch screen, for whatever reason, and that is the attraction, and selling point. If Dell had a 17 inch screen, regardless of spec, that would be a fair comparison.

Yeah, 8" screen compared to 17".. jesus.

This laptop is okay, but I wouldn't buy one. Mainly because it's Acer, only has 1GB of RAM (needs more spent on it) and the resolution isn't that good (1440x900), I get 1024x600 on my EEE and that suits me fine.

For what it is though, it's a good price.

but it's a ****** acer, i'm sorry, this will never be a bargain compared to the dells offered
#30
My acer is only 14 months old an its got more things wrong with it than enough
wouldnt touch ACER with a barge pole again
#

had a few laptops in the past and acer is definately the worst of the lot

mousepad wore after only 4 months
screen went dim after 13 months

battery dies very quickly

lapop would sometimes just shut itself down with no warning

heap of ****

stay clear
