This is the deal to beat for 8.9" netbooks (IMHO). There is this for the Linux fans out there from PC World, £164 with 4% Quidco or less with topcashback + delivery.

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0701903454.1240095886@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccddadegmmggjefcflgceggdhhmdgml.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=941579&category_oid=

Edit: Just posted it sorry.

Excellent deal. Should be voted much hotter. Good saving compared to other sources.I have owned this model for a while now and its FB. If you want to use Mobile Internet buy this model NOT the Linux version.
#3
I was recommended to upgrade the ram to 2gb for this.

#4
would this be ok for internet use and using microsoft office and maybe the odd download ???
#5
Yeah, you're not gonna get much "multi taskin" out of 1gb of Ram. Depending on the cost of the upgrade I may get this for my mum.
#6
Well, the SSD is nice, as is the RAM... but which one you prefer is down to preference.

My Linux skills are decent enough and I would rather run a variant of that than XP on a machine like this. Similarly, the RAM is a doddle to upgrade and doesn't exactly break the bank. Also, with the SSD setup these machines have (8GB of fast modules, 8GB of slow) I'd rather stick with a spindle based drive for now.

The big deal-breaker is that the A150 has over 7 hours of battery life. Go figure.
#7
This is a pretty poor deal, I've got the 120GB version and it's not slow in the slightest. £199 for 16GB, even if it is a slow SSD, is very poor.

It's not that hard to put XP on it either. Oh, and the RAM limit is 1.5GB, not 2GB, so you can't just 'upgrade it' to 2GB.
#8
try finding this deal folks! Even tesco warehouse doesnt have any of these

Are there any A150 with 16gb ssd and XP available on the market, if so please provide a link.

Thanks,

Somebody mentioned on another post that there are a lot of these deals going on just at the moment. Could it be that the vendors know something? Are they desperately trying to shift stock before a new upgraded (More RAM as standard, possibly dual core Atom CPU etc) version is released later this year? I've heard a whisper that there will be a better model late in 2009 early 2010. So the retailers will not want to be left with old stock on their shelves.

What is the main difference between the A110 and A150?

Is it the battery life? as stanglish above has mentioned above the A150 has 7 hours battery liife?

Thanks,
#12
I've got an A150 but it's with a 3-cell battery so that lsts about 2.5 hours for casual surfing. I picked up the A150 with 1gb of Ram and 120gb memory. Not had a single problem. Downloaded lots of stuff so far, including movies and the screen is very good for watching things.

I was in Tesco last night and Noticed a white one with 120gb for £169. I was in a hurry though so i cant confirm if it was the same (or a better) model. Will be going back there today to make sure.

Hopefully i can use my Clubcard voucher cos its due any day now...

16GB... Dont think so !

For those who are inclined more to pink, its cheaper here:

Although i much prefer blue tbh.

I really don't think this is a great deal at the moment since the A150 (120/160GB hard drive version) can be picked up for quite a bit less. The SSD model is a little quieter, smaller (thinner) and lighter, but the differences are pretty small.

Of course there's going to be better models in the future. Shouldn't stop you buying something now if you need it and can use it.

amazing what you can get in tescos these days!

The 1gb of ram would be useless to some people as people will give the 512 RAM the heave ho and put a 1gb in.

Whats the deal with these Netbooks, what are they primarily used for? The screen is tiny!
#23
i think you mean netbook, not notebook...

Ummm, browsing the NET hence the name?

I throw my in my bag along with a USB modem and I get the Internet where ever I am, which is handier than you think sometimes.

I bought this last week from Tesco. I previously had the Linux £170 deal from Christmas but it died on me, so got a refund and went for this one.

It is so slow! I have taken loads of stuff off of it, but so, so slow. The Linux one was just great for surfing around.
#27
PC World are doing these instore for about £180 at the moment, I'm pretty sure of it. They have Black, Blue, Brown and Pink 16GB ones at that price, then the 8GB blue at £175 and the White 16GB, for some reason is £230?

So the Tesco deal is pretty poor by comparison - all the aforementioned models seem to be in stock as well.
#28
I see that Pixmania are now doing the blue 16GB one for £169 as well...on their countdown deals.

Thanks,

I have read that installing 2 gigs can cause hardware malfunction on certain perpherals - Second SD socket and third USB socket have known to become disabled.

I must admit I cannot find any Hard facts at the moment, but an AA1 with with Sata HD and 1.5 gig ram is very fast - connected Firefox in Xp approx 40 seconds and way less in linux I imagine

Dunno where you got that from - the Linux version works fine with 3G modems - you just need to do an online update and it will install the Mobile Partner application.
