eBuyer have the specs' wrong. These are budget models (who would have ever thought that there would be a budget 24" TFT!?!) and do not have DVI input. I have one right here and even Acers own site says VGA only http://www.acer.co.uk/acereuro/page4.do?sp=page3&dau22.oid=13842&UserCtxParam=0&GroupCtxParam=0&dctx1=17&CountryISOCtxParam=UK&LanguageISOCtxParam=en&ctx3=-1&ctx4=United+Kingdom&crc=672256298#inu57_25838

The model you linked to is the AL2416WAs whereas this is the AL2416WB; are you sure you're not just confusing the model? In the US the AL2416WB goes under the name AL2416WBsd and carries the same specs including DVI input.

Possibly, but this says AL2416WB - there's no d for DVI.

The box I have says both AL2416WB and AL2416WBs. I assume the s just means that the bezel colour is silver and that the A or B is the revision number (the B's have a slightly different panel to the A's). If you look at this monitor on Komplete it says VGA; there's no DVI there either and they have exactly the same Acer part number as ebuyer do.

To ba fair, it's entirely possible, judged on past performance, that both Play and ebuyer have the specs wrong. If they don't, then this is a billy bargain...isn't it?

Edit: Are we talking only 12 months warranty here, though?

Further edit: Ooops, I'm clearly an idiot, 3 years warranty. Great deal.

As far as I know this is a new model.

With DVI-HDCP (takes normal dvi cable as well as a hdmi to dvi cable from HDMI/HDCP only devices like SkyHD/V+/Bluray-HD-DVD Players etc) and it's a TN Panel http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/panel_technologies.htm hence the 5ms response.

And 24" TN Panel TFTs will be flooding the market by December from multiple makes, Acer just seem to have gotten their delivery to Europe 1st.

if this has DVI,

If I have my PC connected via DVI can I connect my 360 via the vga? Can these be plugged in at the same time and swapped between??

Any help appreciated as this is a great deal!

Seriously tempted on this one... hmm should I????? and does it have DVi?? lol :D HEATED!

and does it matter its not LCD???

Check the extended spec. It does not mention DVI just D-SUB

General Display Type Flat panel display / TFT active matrix
Enclosure Colour Black, silver
Display Diagonal Size 24" - widescreen
Max Resolution 1920 x 1200
Response Time 5 ms
Signal Input VGA
Image Image Brightness 400 cd/m2
Image Contrast Ratio 1000:1
Image Max H-View Angle 160
Image Max V-View Angle 160
Video Input Analogue video Signal RGB
Expansion / Connectivity Interfaces 1 x VGA - 15 pin HD D-Sub (HD-15)
Miscellaneous Compliant Standards TCO '03

Search on the part number also produces some european site that do not mention DVI. If it had DVI I think I would be very tempted.

If anyone buys one I would recomend printing the product page so you can send it back if it does not have DVI.

I can't see how they would sell a monitor at that high resolution without DVI, but it would be worth double checking.

I have a NEC 26" at that res and D-SUB looks horrible and fuzzy compared to DVI. Also it cost 3 times as much as this Acer :?

Connectivity
Connectors 1 x VGA - 15 pin HD D-Sub (HD-15)
Video Input Type Analog : RGB

Is this monitor any good?

If it has DVI it is a good deal, if not its rubbish. Being a budget Acer, I would think not, but I reallly would like one if it had DVI. You would need an 8800GTS 640 or GTX to game on it tho.

i heard frame rates drop at that res, prob need two cards. charlie

I'd play games at half res and sit a bit further back.

Well, if games offered half-res options. Some do (pixel doubling), and with 4xAA it will still look pretty good.

24" is bigger than my TV, lol. Maybe LG will come out with a WA248 that Play can sell and then ship 5 months later...

Having now played with the one I have (it's not for me) I'd be reluctant to keep it.

The AUTO function is worse than useless so you have to set it up yourself and even then the text is blurry. It's certainly better than the Dell 22" screens but it's nowhere near as sharp as my Dell 2001FP through DVI. The backlighting is slightly uneven with the top being darker than the bottom but I doubt you'd find any budget 20"+ panels with completely even backlighting anyway.

I've only had a chance to play Sid Meier's Railroads on it and it handles that OK but it is affected by the blurriness. I would not swap my Dell 2001FP for this even though it has both a larger screen and a higher resolution.

Forgot to say - the PC I used has an ATI X850XPTE with Cats 7.7.

Fook it ive ordered 1, if its pap i'll send it back

I've had a punt on this one too, DVI not needed so no probs there.

If as suggested it falls short in other areas I'll pop it back to them.

Voted hot, fingers crossed.

Every monitor with a DVI connection entering the EU is taxed (strange, silly, and so European...). Hence why you had the situation of DVI being introduced, everyone jumping onto the DVI+VGA bandwagon, and then, all the budget ones stopped having DVI and VGA/DSUB connections became all the rage - every cent/euro/dollar/pound counts ;)

this does have DVI
#22
Why are people saying it doesn't have DVI?

The OLDER 24" Acer didn't have it.

This is the newer TN Panel range which DOES have it.

this does have DVI

I will find out tomorrow

Ebuyer have now removed the DVI icon from the description page now so i guess it doesnt have DVI after all.

They have however still left the DVI icon on the page shown if you click monitors directly from the front page so you could still conplain they are misleading.

These do not have DVI; I have 4 in the office next to me.

Just got mine delivered today 16/08/07, and am sending it back. As others have stated there is no DVI connection, the controls look fairly basic as well. Ebuyer have already said they will pay for a courier to collect so not too bad. I will just have to pay a bit more and get a decent Samsung or Dell:thumbsup:

Cheers

Providing a courier is at their discretion, I stated that goods sent had been incorrectly specified so wanted courier reimbursement costs when returning.

Did not use the monitor or open any product packaging, this can affect the return policy. I just checked whether it had the relevant connections and it did not, so I boxed it up again and it's going back to Ebuyer next week. :)

It does have DVI and it is not an 8 bit colour panel as the spec says, its a 6bit TN panel. Personally i would stay away, I like my IPS and VA panels too much :)

Also a single 8800 can handle this resolution for most games.

Why are you saying that it has DVI when several of us already have this panel and have said that it does not have DVI!

now £245.58 delivered :)
