RAM is great but shared graphics is poor at this price

Acer battery life never seems to be as long as they claim. Having owned 2 Acer Aspire laptops (not by choice) which both claimed to have 2-2.5 hour battery life, the first one never managed more than 40 minutes, and the one I'm on right now won't go more than an hour on a full charge.

They seem good value laptops, which is why I got one in the first place, but can be a bit unpredictable. My first Acer (Aspire 3003WLMi) had a lot of heat issues, and would regularly switch off after an hour of use, due to processor temperatures of up to 95 degrees. After getting a replacement, (Aspire 1642ZWLMi) I've had no such problems, but the short battery life is still a constant frustration.

Poor battery life is usually down to the user not taking the required steps to charge the battery properly and then tune it with windows when they first get the Laptop. If you treat your battery right from the word go then they are usually much more reliable and last longer.

shared graphics is a given at the sub £700 price.

The T2060 is quite an old model processor now and for this price you can have 5633WLMi model, newer processor but 1GB RAM and 120GB hard drive, which isn't too bad.

I don't know what all the complaints about shared video memory are for. By default 224 is taken from the RAM. Put a fresh install of Windows XP on, none of the crap they install by default. Go into the bios and change the shared video memory size from 224MB to 64MB. Extra 160MB of RAM back and my friend who bought a similar model for music programming, hasn't had any problems. DVDs run fine and will do as most of the processing will be shared with the processor, which will have a laugh dealing with it. If you are playing games or doing anything graphically intensive then you shouldn't be in this price bracket.

For that price it should have a Core 2 Duo processor and either the NVIDIA 7300 or Radeon X1400 dedicated-shared memory hybrid graphics cards. Go for a dell instead.
