Looks like a very decent spec for the price. I think I'll be hard pushed to find anything better.
I've seen loads written on these threads about the quality of Acer though so I'm questioning whether to trust it....

Anyway hot from me

Just waiting to see if anyone can come up with any good reasons why I should not jump for this one apart from the make.

Usually it is cheap laptops that ship with Vista Home Basic.

For the money you are spending I would expect Vista Home Premium.

Home Premium comes with extra programs and utilities not shipped in Home Basic.

If you look at this comparison list even Microsoft can only come up with three ticks for Home Basic, but twelve ticks for Home Premium.

Yeah becuase the hp deals at ebuyer (http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/306927/hp-6735s-laptop-389-98-ebuyer-amd-t) and dabs (http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/312313/hp-6735s-athlon-64-3gb-ram-250gb-hd) at the moment are better, This machine might have a better processor, but i suspect that it has slower RAM and it does have a smaller hard drive, the graphics chip is very poor and why o why put vista basic it on it? And like you said there is always the brand to consider
#9
is this better then ebuyers hp? http://www.ebuyer.com/product/152233
how do the processors fair up?
#10
I would not prefer AMD (personel choice) plus RAM is 4 gig for this machine. What do you mean by slow? Thanks

No in my opinion the ebuyer and the dabs ones i have listed above are better, yes the intel processor in this might be a bit better but i have now double checked and this does indeed have slower ram, smaller hard drive, much worse graphics, and it does not have the added features like bluetooth and a lightscribe drive and has the worst verion of vista on it. This machine is definitely not has good as it first appeared. Spend the extra £2 and get the ebuyer one or save yourself some money and get the dabs one

What do you mean by slow ram? As it is 4gb for this one. Please clarify.

RAM like processors comes in different speeds and is rated like a processor in MHz, the ram in this acer is 667 MHz and in the hp's it is 800 MHz so if you have slower ram you loose some performance
#14
it is the same ram on the hp and the acer 4gb. i would much rather have the intel than they amd. i got on better with the acer than the hp that i have but i will give you the hard drive size.

The size of the ram is the same but the speed of the ram is different the acer is 667 MHz and the hp's is 800 MHz, and yes the hard drive is better but you also forgot to mention that the graphics is a lot better and this acer comes with vista basic rather tha premium and the hp has a few extras. THe hp's are a better deal even with a weaker processor

Nice spces, good price.. great deal..

Please explain
Processor: good (i'll give you that)
RAM: ok (a lot of it but slow)
Hard Drive: ok (Starting to expect 250gb on machines now)
Graphics: Terrible (is an old chip that i believe does not even support HD Video)
OS: Poor (Why put basic on this machine, ah becuase it costs less and makes the spec look better than they should for the money)
Extras: poor (no bluetooth, no lightscribe but does hava a webcam)

Overall: ok but not a great deal plus you can get it from other retailers for the same price

The deals you are mentioning are not that great in my point of view just because of the AMD processor. Also practically i don't think RAM with 667 Mhz or 800 Mhz would make much difference as i have used pc 5300 and pc 6400. These are not much noticeable at 4gb.
Please mention something at this price without AMD. Many thanks
#20
I think it is a very nice Laptop with Intel inside, I dont like to buy an AMD machine.
Configuration is very very high spec for this price
#21
Also with AMD processor the cost will go down as they are cheaper, and a person like me wont buy

I do not see why you discounted the others due to the AMD processor, yes it is a weaker processor but the other specs for than make up for that short coming, As for the RAM the speed does make a difference when you are doing processor intensive tasks.

in this price range if you were discounting the hp's just becuase they had AMD processors (which is stupid) then i would get this http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1250645403.1231328264@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccchadegefmkfedcflgceggdhhmdfho.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=557073&category_oid=#productInformationSection extra £10 but you get vista premium, a bigger hard drive and again much better gragics and therefore worth the extra £10.

The reason why this acer has vista basic is becuase if it did not then they would have to pass on the extra cost of premium to the customer and then this machine would look hopelessly out classes in the next price bracket

oh and this one will really put a spanner in the works of this deal, why would not buy this acer from amazon for http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001G7PI26/pgceret-21/ref=nosim £370 which is the same machine but 1gb less ram but much better graphics. and if the ram does bother you then get a 2gb stick from play for £11.99 and then you have the same machine as this for £382 but with better graphics.

lets see how long it takes someone to post that as their own deal

Ok. I think under £400 it is a sought of compromise. The one you are mentioning in PC world is a dell machine with 2Ghz processor and 3gig ram with poor design. In my opinion this deal is much better at this price.
Thanks for your time.

no HDMI on any of these machine, would be especially pointless on this acer the graphics card is not good enough to cope with HD video. and yes you can install any operating system you want on any of these machines.

I do not like it when people that know pretty much nothing about pc's come on these forums looking for a machine and then get told a million different things. and the truth it there are better machine for in the sub £400 market than this. This machine has some major weaknesses especially the os and graphics that need to be highlighted

hey i dosent matter everyone has personal preffrences. And buys what they want to. You taking so much effort and time to explain will make no diffrence. As the biggest thing people tend to make there deciding factor is AMD and Core Duo etc.

course i can, if you are saying that people ignore most other specs and just choose a machine becuase it has either a better AMD or intel processor then they are stupid. A machine is made up of far more components then just a processor and just about all of them contribute to the overall speed and power of the machine, so i stand by what i said before people are foolish if they just choose a machine based on if it is an AMD or Intel

I think people need machines for diffrent purposes so why would a person who only need for internet usage buy a high end machine, Just to show off. AMD and Intel is a personal choice. The rest just depends on what you need it for and how much you want to spend.

I agree totally and if you just need a machine for basic internet use that the debate between AMD and intel should not come into as old single core intel celerons and single core durons are more than capable of doing that. If you want a machine for basic internet browsing this machine would do fine but then again so would the acer i posted at a cheaper price and so would hp at dabs for £355. if you wanted this machine for some basic gaming or HD video then you going to start to struggle with this but both the HP's (ebuyer and dabs), the acer i posted and the dell would cope, so like i said you deserve to be lumbered with this if you discount other facts

amd and intel will always stand. this debate is called a choice debate. and the rest as i told you before its just your personal needs. ask anyone everyone has personal choices. I would never buy a AMD or even a Celeron. At any cost. As simple as that. Its my choice and i think all HUKD users have the same. With full due respect if you love AMD thats your choice and i will always honour anyones choice. But let HUKD users decide the best for them selfs. And dont underestimate anyone. No one is foolish.

I am not an intel or AMD man, i am computer man and when buying a computer i buy the one that is the best spec for the price becuase i am not as foolish to be swayed the debate. I have a high end HP machine that has a very nice intel core 2 duo in it becuase intel make the best high end processors at the moment and the machine was a bargin price when i got it around october last year. I also have an every day budget medion machine that has an old AMD dual core in it, both of which do just fine at what the are meant to be doing.

At this price you are looking at machines that are for general purpose, bit of internet browsing, bit of older gaming, a few HD videos and nice bit of storage capactiy. Now this machine with it intel processor can not do all of that, while the hps at the same or lower price with AMDs can, also the other acer with the same intel processor as this at a lower price can. If you brought this over the 2 hps, the other acer or the dell i found earlier then you are a fool
