very nice spec for the price, shame its in that breeze block of a chassis
#4
Hot! Very nice specs.

Bloody amazing deal, just had a look at a review for the spec (first google page when searching laptop model - http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3897) to check the weight because, at this spec it's going to be heavy. It weighs 3kg which could be a bit of a problem if you plan to lug it around constantly, I also found that it has an 8 cell battery (!), according to the review - wtih normal use that comes to 3 2/3 hours of battery which is pretty good for a dual core laptop, no?
#6
That's a really good deal
#7
Actually you can't rely on anything that Acer sells unless you can get the actual exact model code, as they normally offer loads of different variants of the same basic model (5920 in this case) some will have less ram, better graphics, better battery etc

An 8 cell battery lasting 4 hours is pretty poor when my older Dell (6400) and its 9 cell battery lasts 6 hours! The Santa Rosa chipset should increase battery life.
Dixons has the Compaq V6642 for a £20 less with a Turion TL58, Nvidia 7150m graphics (better than X3100) and a much nicer looking laptop all round. I think it is the better deal
#8
this is actually a poor version of this model ok specs for price but would rather pay extra for better graphics cards and blue ray dvd
#9
Anyone ever bought a refurb from dixons and if so any comments on product quality?
#10
those look aweful , just got a travelmate 5720 from Dabs that is simular spec but looks better imo
#11
hmm hdmi port u reckon?

Why if you don't play games or watch movies on your laptop:thinking:

h8 acers they really are off the mark looks wise, also acers have a terrible reputation of breaking within the first 12 months, as for the person that asked about refurbs i would avoid at all costs. I bought 2 laptops from the refurb site from currys one was dead on arrival and the other was just as faulty, i phoned up the tech guys and i told the guy it was refurb and he said there is no quality control on these so if you get one that works weel done your lucky! i wasnt and currys have no clue instore of how to fix them when they break you just get refund no exchange feature... shame though

I have this exact model, and I am more than happy with it. I know other people who have Acers and they have had no problems apart from someone who broke the screen and they said their customer support was excellent. Although no way does the battery last that long - it's more like 2.5 hours on mine. Hot from me

hardly any laptops will come with restore discs, only toshiba.

to make your recovery disks on acer, from your desktop hit 'shift and f10' or 'ctrl and f10' or even 'alt and f10'....................

or 'something and f10'

I bought 2, arrived yesterday. They both are in excellent condition and I am very happy with the bargain I got. To my surprise, one laptop came with 250 GB Hard Disk and 1.88 GHZ processor. Still happy. Thanks to the poster.

Just received mine.
It also includes also an integrated webcam.
The hard drives made up of 2 hard drives, one is shown as the C drive and the other as the D drive. Don't know if this is a good or a bad thing?
laptop looks great anyway.

I went for this at the weekend but have just had a call from Dixons saying they are out of stock. They are offering a refund or this model at the same price of £299 as an alternative. It appears to be the same spec as the one in the original post but it has AMD Turion 64x2 TL60 Processors rather than the Intel. I'm a Mac man myself so not too 'up' on laptop processors - so can anyone tell me if this alternative is better or worse than the one in the original post. The laptop is really going to be mostly for my daughter and her schoolwork as well as some general web surfing (though I might give Photoshop a go on it to see how it behaves). Any help would be gratefully received. cheers :-)
