If you want the best out of your notebook, the Acer Aspire 3935 is your choice. It’s truly thin and light, and represents the highest expression of elegance and technology together. Certain details of the Acer Aspire 3935 reveal its class – the frameless edge-to-edge display or the Acer Finetip floating keyboard for maximum typing comfort – while others, like the elegant display and ultra-fast RAM memory, express its technological evolution. Simple and sophisticated, the Acer Aspire 3935 is also very easy to use.

864G32Mn, Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 Processor, 13.3" HD Screen, Windows Vista Home Premium, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, Integrated Graphics, LX.PAD0X.156, WAS £899.97

Does this have a cd drive

I saw this offer already yesterday... to be honest, it is hard for me to accept that "WAS £899.97" part of the offer... Acer with integrated graphics card, with not even i3,i5 or i7 processor... it could cost this "WAS price" about 2 years ago (yeah, but those i-processors were not out even by that time).

Price is definitely good now, not the very hottest deal around here, but it really is GOOD, but unfortunately I am that kind of sensitive person who hates this kind of misleading...

When it was originally released (it is a Windows Vista Machine) it was probably 899 about 2 years ago or something

Nad_84 - but would you agree with me that this isn't that clean marketing...?

I am willing to sell my Fiat Punto, year 1998, I think I will put it on eBay with text:
Fiat Punto 450 GBP (WAS 9845 GBP back in 1998)
:)
#6
Are you sure about the drive? There is conficting info across various sites. Acer suggest themselves that it has it (though they call it a manufacturing option). The image (though stock) suggests that it has an optical drive.

It is completely illegal... but i bet no one will complain and if they do... by the time trading standards get involved it will be sold out

there are different configurations, the site says it is the LX.PAD0X.156 which according to Acers website is the same specification as listed on the saveonlaptops site, no DVD.
#9
Amazon (non marketplace seller) sells this configuration for £668.72
and kikatech for £547.91
#10
The Acer site mentions the DVD drive generically (e.g. as if for all versions). The DVD drive is not mentioned in the spec for any of the 3 variants. If only 1 had it then it should be mentioned in the generic text and is the specific tech spec.

Who cares what it used to cost or what they say it used to cost!
This class of machine was expensive 2 years ago and the CPU was fairly high end for then.

this laptop seems to have been released in april last year so hardly 2 years old.

It says 1.89Kg so surely it’s heavier than the Mini 1011!
The Acer Timeline 14” which has a DVD drive is the same weight but it has the much slower CULV CPU.

This laptop was on sale a year ago for pretty much the rrp. I got one for £699 with free external dvd and 2nd year warranty from John Lewis. It's a great machine if you need power and portability. On vista the battery used to last 5-6 hours but on Windows 7 it seems to only last me about 4. As for the build quality... hmm. I had a failed HD replaced under warranty in under a week but now i have another common problem (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMhuyv4W8DA) and the speakers are a little temperamental due to a poorly designed headphone socket which thinks headphones are plugged in all the time.

I'd recommend it for £400 but buy an extra warranty... do play still sell them for cheap?
#18
This laptop will be blindingly fast for the money. Sub £400 for the P8600??!!

I used to have this processor in my old Samsung Q310 - And let me tell you, it will blow the Core i3 to bits and be better than i5 -

How is the processor/speed on this compared to the 3810T posted yesterday?
They're both £399.99 and I'm looking to purchase a laptop soon.

but worse battery life, otherwise virtually identical I think

If you go by the picture, it has a slot-loading drive.

So does this have an optical drive or not !!!!

It's almost twice as powerful.

An i5 will kick this into touch easily.

the picture isnt the exact configuration as far as I know and how can you see the slot loading drive because other sites say configurations with the drive have it on the right? See pic

Have you owned both?

And I am talking everyday usage, program loading etc. Not benchmarks. No-one uses laptops to benchmark!

I’ve owned all 3; CULV 1.3 (Dell 14z), Core i5 2.53 (Dell Studio 1558) and C2D P8700 2.53 (Dell Studio 1555).
I currently have a CULV 1.3 as I don’t need the extra performance but if you read the reviews the i5 is easily the highest performer.

I couldn't begin to start listing the Laptop's I have owned, but one thing I will say, on standard usage the P8600 did tip my i5 - And these are all clean Win 7 installs.

Tomato / Tomato - To the normal user these speed differences mean diddly tbh.

Hyper Threading is not a big deal for a typical home user but Turbo Boost is a useful feature of the i5. They are more power efficient also but as you say for general usage it’s not a big step forward; it looks great in multi-threaded benchmarks though.

You can't just say in a sweeping comment that benchmarks mean absolutely jack! the worst i3 is very slightly better than a core2duo 2.4Ghz, but the dual core i5 540m is much better than this cpu.

Benchmarks vs your general opinion of which 'felt' more nippy? I know which one I would trust! You do really sound a bit stupid saying that old gen stuff is better than new gen stuff which has replaced it.

Agreed, plus the power consumption is lower and it produces less heat.

I completely ignore synthetic benchmarks as I’m not interested in them but if you look at application benchmarks the i5 blows C2D out of the water by as much as 45%; see below:

I haven't yet seen a good Acer that is hard wearing and robust paint finish...usually weak hinges, I'd be wary...
