'Excellent price for this high spec laptop featuring 120GB hard drive, 1GB RAM and 15.4" widescreen display'

- I bought this last week for the bargain price of £489.99, and that was a really good deal - now it has gone down another £10!

ACER AS5102WLMI
AMD Turion 64 x2 Dual Core 1.6 GHz
120GB Hard Drive
1GB RAM
15.4 inches Widescreen
Windows XP Media Center OS
128MB Shared Graphics
Bluetooth [Optional]

This is a really good deal - don't forget quidco!

BrYaN

Now includes a free lexmark printer! Not sure if this is a online only offer.
The laptop is £499.99 in store and can now be reserved for store pickup using the comet website.
- Bryan839

Update 2:

The laptop no longer comes with a free printer. The laptop is currenlty out of stock for home delivery but available to collect from a local store, but sadly In-store price is unchanged at £499.99. I will update when the laptop becomes available online again at an incredible £479.99! Not sure if you get the online price if you reserve online for instore collection.
- Bryan839

Just Came Back In Stock 07/12/06. Just £479.99. Reserve online and collect in store, or have it delivered for free.
- Bryan839

This deal has now expired - thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread. I know this is a little unusual to ask but I have renaimed the deal title with HELP becuase I need some advice and the advice will hopefully help any of you who use esplex/acer support in the future. Please go to page 4 to find out more. Thanks

Hi, I also bought this for £489 and was delivered last week, I read somewhere on the forum Comet will refund the difference, which number do we need to contact and how many days within do you have to claim?

Thanks
#3
Comet's pricing policy - surely that would apply to their own stores?

Pricing
What’s more, if you buy anything from us and find it at a better price at a store within 10 miles of your nearest Comet, let us know within 14 days. We won’t just match the price – we’ll beat it by an extra 10% of the difference, provided that:

The item is boxed and sold as new

It’s in stock and available for immediate delivery
Why don't you contact them here?

Hi, this was discussed in this thread:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30608&highlight=5102

There is a 0870 number somewhere but the cheaper number is
01482 320681 - Ask for customer services. There was no problem refunding me £10 when it dropped from 499 to 489.

Hope this helps,
Phil.

Thanks Emma and Phil for your help,

Just rang the 01482 number and they have refunded the £10 and will be in my account within 2-5 days

The above post states built in bluetooth, this is incorrect as the laptop does not have built in bluetooth
#7
Does it have built-in WiFi? I expect that's what they meant...

A great priced laptop just got better!

Having used laptops with AMD Turion 64 x2 Dual Core processors for the past couple of weeks at work I can highly recommend them. Seem to be better than the Intel Duo from my totally un scientific tests.

I think the screen is one of those x bright clear ones as well?
#9
This laptop does have built in bluetooth and wifi. Look at the full spec sheet on comets website. It says built in bluetooth.

Bryan
#10
Thanks Bryan839 I removed the Bluetooth info as hotuk says this model doesn't have it. Have you got one of these yourself?

Here's the Acer UK website link to it: http://www.acer.co.uk/acereuro/page4.do?sp=page3&dau22.oid=19096

I have had to buy a Bluetooth Dongle as the Laptop does not have a built in one. On the front of the laptop there is a blutooth switch, when you slide it, it states 'No Bluetooth Device'.

This is a very nice laptop and would highly recommend to anyone thinking of buying a laptop.
#12
Thanks for the update hotuk :) I'll change the bluetooth info from the original post.

Thanks steveuk,

This laptop does not have an integrated webcam.

Also how do you tweak for a 4.5 hour battery life?

Hi, got this laptop yesterday, just wondering what to do if I wanted to send off for a vista upgrade. All that is included is a leaflet and it isnt clear of what to do. Yes just checked and it does indeed not include a bluetooth connection, not as stated on the comet website! Sorry about the confusion.

Just seen this laptop in store - one of the keys was missing (possibly build quality is questionable)

Seems solid enough to me. One of the things I was impressed about was the build quality on this laptop.

Hi,

When do you have to send the Vista coupon by for a free Vista upgrade?
Also, what other items do you need to send and do you have to send to Comet for this free disc?

Thanks
#19
They have just improved this deal by throwing in a lexmark printer free of charge, £479.99 for a good spec laptop and printer.

Did you get a redemption coupon? I didn't, just got a leaflet re vista upgrade and a weblink that doesn't work!
#21
Thats all I got too. How does it work though?
#22
Please is there anyone out there who knows how to send off for a free vista upgrade.

Bryan
#23
When i got this laptop a few weeks ago, i tried the upgrade web address from the leaflet, and it was a valid site (but was too early to enter my details). Will try it again later.
#24
Thanks, I will try later. So the website link that is in the leaflet is where you will have to enter your details for the upgrade. That makes sense. Thanks
#25
Just tried the upgrade website, and when asked what pc manufacturer, acer isnt available as an option!

I have been in touch with Acer / Comet today, and we do qualify for a free Vista upgrade :). However, Acer said to ring once Vista becomes available in January and they'll post a CD/DVD.

Can someone confirm their Media Center version as my licence under the laptop states its MCE 2005 and if I click on My Computer Properties, its says MCE version 2002 service pack 2. What's going on here???
#28
Does any other company sell at this price?
Comet don't ship to N Ireland :(

I also only got a leaflet,

I have read through this leaflet and it states..

You must submit your claim before March 31 2007.
you need to provide your coa number and proof of purchase such as a invoice dated between Oct 26 2006 and March 15 2007
#30
Perhaps the weblink doesn't become active until Vista is available?

This is correct don't worry about it. It's the same for any PC with MCE2005 installed.
#32
Just gave acer a call and the person I spoke to said that the vista upgrade website will be active before christmas.
#33
Now back in stock online for home delivery, and available to reserve online for pick-up instore. Still just £479.99*

*In-store price £499.99

Just to let everyone know that the ACER vista express upgrade site is now active. It can be found here https://upgradeweb.moduslink.com/vista/Acer

Alternatively contact the Acer Express Upgrade team on 00800 666 44 666 (Free phone number)

You can now order your express upgrade kit to vista! Yay!

'Thank you for being a valued Acer customer. As a show of appreciation, customers who acquired qualifying Microsoft Windows XP software preinstalled on a newly purchased applicable computer during the eligibility period* are able to upgrade to Microsoft Windows Vista at a minimal cost'

Just one question guys, Im trying to order my copy of vista, but I thought that AMD Turion 64, was 64bit, but I can only select the 32bit version of windows vista premium, any ideas?

I believe (hope I'm right - someone else on the forum will be able to correct me) both 32 and 64 bit versions are on the same DVD, you'll be able to choose upon installation.

Did you get to know the admin/p+p charges to post the DVDs ? (I think there are two DVDs - one for Vista upgrade and the other with all the drivers etc. - I hope these are 64bit, if the Acer site is to be trusted as they are heavily advertising the benefit of 64bit on this notebook.)
#36
I think the total price was £14 something, cant remember the exact pence but it was just over £14. I hope that the 64bit version is included on this disc, the phone number isnt working at the moment, most prob out of office hours but I will give them a ring tommorrow and let you know what I find out.

Bryan
#37
£14 or so doesn't sound bad at all for a free upgrade to Vista Premium - which retails for over £100 (£130 cheapest I've seen on net for upgrade edition)

Thanks, Ash
#38
Has anybody managed to order a copy of the Vista yet? I keep getting errors.
#39
got through the website and have to send of my receipt so seems ok.
#40
Hi, can any comment on the performance and quality of this machine? Is the fan always on and has it ever randomly shut down or had errors (due to software faults).

Also what speed is the Hard Drive of this, is it 4200rpm or 5400rpm.
