Just to say that i got this laptop for my wife and dad at xmas for £286 after quidco and other than the battery life i.e for surfing the net and office apps its great.

So if you can get it for this price then i think you won't be dissapointed.

So it's 299.00 minus 20%?

Does that take it to 239.00?

299/100^20 = 59.8
299-59.8 = ~ 239.2

quidco if you can use it then you can get 6%

http://www.quidco.com/marshall-ward/

so 26% off 299 = 221.26
maybe a possibility

Perhaps an even better deal may be ..

£399 and also 20% off ?
If so that would make it £319.20.. much better spec also

Sorry guys the one i originally commented on was their 1gb version which on MW's website is £329.00 PH4991E or similar. It seems theres lots of variants on this.
#15
Can you run Vista with 512mb RAM? Mine is a brand new install and takes just under 1GB just to tick over. I can't imagine it'd be much fun with half a GB.
#16
i have a 15 month old acer laptop that cost £399 and it broke within 3 months returned it to acer and they sent it back with all the case smashed so i sent is back again. Now its 15 months old and it broke last sunday with the exact same fault that happened after 3 months and they have refused to fix it saying its out of warranty even though its obviously a serious fault thats plagued this laptop by the way the motherboard is faulty to cut a long story short they are a cheap nasty laptop and rubbish company and i will never ever buy another acer laptop as long as i live that goes for anything acer.

I know someones going to come back and say they have never had any trouble with theres but you are lucky there are horror storys all over the net about build quality and customer service. I also left the best for last they also said that id had my moneys worth with it lasting 15 months this laptop had never left the table in the living room so it was in excellent condition and had never run on battery.

I agree, those specs on the laptop are not acceptable compared to todays.
#19
Would be OK for someone who has a spare copy of XP laying around.

That's what you'll be saying about your Acer laptop in a few months down the line, don't make the mistake spend your hard earned money on another brand, don't buy an acer :-(

I have to back Polly up on this one, Acer are cheap rubbish, you might aswell burn your cash then give it to these guys, their customer and repair support is run by idiots.

Acer Fanboys will no doubt be flying the Acer flag but there's quite a few people on HUKD now that are sick of Acer.

i am just wondering is this the same laptop, and is it any good? Its slightly cheaper in price.

I'd steer well clear from Acer

have a look at this :
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135689

http://image.ebuyer.com/UK/R0135689-01.jpg

Sure it's £120 dearer but you are getting a solid 2 year warranty, 1 gb of ram (instead of 512) Vista HP (instead of basic) a little bit faster cpu

Asus are solid notebooks, I've got 2, and know people who have them also, never had one problem.
#24
I would recommend anyone after a decent durable and value for money laptop is to wait around for a dell deal and they have every so often.
#25
The nicer Acer's have better build quality control, however seeing the complaints here and elsewhere on the sub £400 ones for Acer laptops I would be tempted to avoid this too I'm afraid.

I have just ordered the computer for my daughters bday. Any chance you could tell me where you got your memory upgrade from as I have no idea what to look for!!
#30
I just ordered too, can't have as many problems as the maxdata guarantee, they sent it back with all the wires disconnected so no power, had to get the m.d. in the end as it was working great when I sent it,though the hinge was loose.

seriously, i'd rather pay abit more for a dual core laptop with at least 1gb ram.
#32
I'd go for the Toshiba A210 on the Marshall Ward website.

Works out at £319 + del with the 20% code.

Dual core TL57, 120GB SATA drive, DVDRW, 2GB RAM, Vista Premium

I would most definitely go for the toshiba on marshall ward at £319.20 + p+p. Its the same spec as a dell i bought but the toshiba is a amd athlon chip far better than intel. I have past experience with toshiba they are tough laptops and a much better brand than acer and dell.
#35
Is this discount for new customers? I know this group is well known for wanting discounts back!!
Sorry if this as been asked b4.

yeh, the littlewoods group and voucher codes is rightly a very touchy subject in this community

everybody knows Intel are far better than AMD. It's a fact.

pc_tech is right im afraid Intel far outdoes AMD and has done for a while now,

However, bang for your buck, on very cheap CPUs, AMD wins tbh.

But anything used regularly would mean tolerating inferior AMD for lengths of time.
#39
20% off this makes it a bargain http://www.marshallward.co.uk/rf/mar/navigation/product.do?categoryId=7433992&spreadId=7384489&linkId=7384500 +6% quidco even better

Not available though

Would you not be able to get the £50 cashback aswell as it is a 210 model
