Looks like a great price. Can someone who knows what they're talking about tell me which one is better in terms of the graphics card and processor between this one and this http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/657233. Besides the blu ray player, is there anything else? Would this be alright for casual gaming for the older stuff like wow etc.

This laptop has featured a few times recently so if you search for it by name and read the comments you may find out what you want to know. From what I remember people said it could be used for gaming but was not a "heavyweight" in that field.

Not an expert myself.

very good spec for the price, 3gb might be enough for most uers. But if i was to buy this i willl increase it to 4gb then it will perfect. Even tho it has AMD it is one of the hi end amd cpu, so i doubt it will be sluggish. It might help if you put a brief spec in the title.

dont see the point of 4gb machines running a 32bit OS like vista home premium or basic.
windows cant make use of more than 3.25gb so its a waste.

what software are you using on your laptop that actually makes use of 4gb of ram?
#7
Didn't know you could get 3.25gb of memory. Silly me..

you cant.
but vista cant make use of the full 4gb due to the restrictions of a 32bit operating system.
so 3 is more than enough for running Vista cos anything more than 3.2 is wasted

you could get 3.25 gb of ram if you had 3 slots...

1x 2gb, 1x 1gb, 1x 256mb :)

If you can live without a laptop for a month or two while its being repaired (and it will need repairing sooner rather than later) go for it

WTF!

I bought this laptop back in March after we were burgled. I bought it from Asda of all places for £300! The store had used it when the offices computer went down for like a day and then re-boxed it for a knock down price.

Anyways I use this for everything from itunes, web and flash editing, watching and even edited a couple vids in windows and general web games etc.

Its perfect for most tasks apart from high end gaming and v demanding editing apps. But everything else its great.

Highly recommended laptop

just bought this model off ebay - argos clearance store so its technically a "refurb" - for £304 delivered so £345 is a good price. Its for my bro-in-law so i havent opened it yet....

edit actually there is a slight diff, mine is the 5535, has the RM72 AMD chips so should have better battery, this has the QL so not a mobile processor.

Interestign thread here on underpowering the chip to save battery life

It better not take a month or two. I have been told it should be returned inside 2 weeks. Mine is boxed up waiting for the courier right now :-( (different model, cracked hinge)

How come when you click on the "View full product information" button on the Dixon website it says "Wireless enabled - NO". Does this have wireless or not?

The Athlon QL series are mobile processors, very similar to the RM series.

Opened it last night - the one i was sent is better than the ebay add, its actually a acer 5536 with 4gb memory and vista home. Couple if very light scratches on the lid, the LCD screen is a peach

Check this out http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=235824

I am undervolting my laptop by .3v, my maximum temperature under maximum load is 13c less now. I don't know how much effect it has on battery life, mine sucks either way, lol.
