Good price if you can get it, cheapest I saw it when nosing earlier in the day was ££572.72 from simplyacer.com, be shipping costs to add that likely.

I bought the 5102 from comet in december, but I know that whatever I buy a newer and better version will be around the corner! Mine decided to pack in last week, phoned comet and they didnt want to know, so called acer and they were fantastic - they arranged a pick up by dhl the day I reported the fault (tuesday), and 3 days later it is fixed and is going to be sent back to me on monday/tuesday. They have had to replaced the hard drive.

The OP is correct - 5633 for £499 - I bought it today as well.

Pretty chuffed the model is awarded 5 stars in this months computer shopper magazine at a sale price of £650

However the cheapest I have seen this model on line is about 70 quid dearer.

Thanks to the OP.

Oh and the three year warranty is a total bonus

I dont understand how and why anyone could possibly vot this cold.

If I was after a laptop and had a budget of £500 then this would be a dead cert.

Agreed. I think the OP got his links a little bit mixed up - and thats why folk voting cold.

I think its pretty good myself. I can confirm the exact model number is the ag50j.169 - same as the one in this months "computer shopper" mag.

3 year guarantee and free vista premium upgrade

I am interested in getting this laptop as our local Tesco's has it in stock.

Can someone please explain this to me please:
Wireless LAN: 802.11a/b/g - Call for advice on Wireless Networking

I just want to be able to link the laptop up to our computer, preferably through one of those dongle thingies. (WiFi max)
Goes without saying I am rather ignorant on laptops and wireless networking !! :)
#16
I'm also interested in one of these. My local store in Cheshunt has no stock. I rang some other branches but they all told me to check with Cheshunt. Aparently it's just the "extra" stores that keep them.

Anyone anywhere near cheshunt (North London, M25 Junction 25) who knows where I can get one??

Its got a built in Wireless Lan, no need for a Card Adapter or anything to pick up a wireless signal providing you've a wireless signal in the house.

Pretty good receiver, picked up 4 wireless signals in the street, shows either Very Good or Excellent signal as a norm from my hub which is based 3 levels up in a bedroom.

Great deal if it's available in your Tesco.

Guys hate to be the bringer of bad news, but I've just purchased 2 of these(from separate stores) and is it just my extraordinary bad luck or does the outer box advertise the model in the original post ie. LX.AG50J.169 with 1gb ram + geforce 7300 graphics but the inner acer box have the model LX.AU30J.090 namely with 512mb ram and integrated graphics?

If anyone can check this and reply here and pm me i'd be really grateful.

(just to clarify, outer box is the one with all the advertising and the inner box is the green and white one with no photos on it just a specification list on the side)

Many thanks
#24
must be a mistake at your branch my inner & outter boxes are the same both the LX.AG50J.169
#25
Must be a mistake at your branch - mine is fine and as described.

Probably a Tesco employee(s) on to a scam.

hehe - good scam if you can get away with it. They put the empty external boxes on display - with the actual unit sealed and boxed back shop.

I would guess they put a 5012 or similar unit inside the 5633 box - possibly a mistake?

These notebooks are clearance items so get your skates on - I got the second last one in my tesco extra

Sounds messed up, I've been given the exact same wrong model by two separate stores, I actually drove over a hour to the 2nd store to get another one, anyone know the best route to go about complaining? I could go into the closest store to me but from my experience these local managers don't seem to know head from tail, anyone ever had a national complaint to tesco over the phone bear fruit? Really annoyed

That sounds a nightmare. I think the best you will get from a local store is a refund.

If it was me i would go back to the store i got it from and raise hell!!
#31
That's the general plan! Hope something useful happens, I even brought up the point with a sales colleague at the second store and he assured me it was a typo... Just really annoyed because I saw this deal and thought it'd be brilliant for me and my dad to get for my mum and sister, the way it's going I hope we get 1 laptop out of this let alone the 2 we were after. Thanks for the advice guys

Ok here, both boxes had unbroken tamper seals on them, Ram and Gfx as per spec.

well being honest at least it's only 1 of us affected, hopefully I get mine sorted out. We'll see tomorrow I guess, anyone got tips as to good stock levels anywhere near london? Don't mind travelling a little bit because it's my mum and sister after all! :)

I bought one of these from the Hexham (Northumberland) branch yesterday (they had two more in stock), an excellent deal and great laptop. One question I have is about the warranty, I can see no mention of 3 years, although the assistant said thatw as what it came with. Is this a manufacturers or Tesco warranty and where is it documented?. I have printed off the Tesco web page as a back up. Thanks to the original poster!.

The only downside to my mind was the lack of a windows disk.

Cheers Michael

Just come back from Tesco's where I bought one of these laptops. I got the CS lady to thoroughly check the inner box and codes and she WAS aware that there had been mix ups. She knew what to check.
There is an inner brown cardboard box with security seals on both ends and a window at the side where the actual laptop box and the specification can be seen.
When you open the brown cardboard box there is a third box which carries the laptop and accessories. This too has a blue security seal on the top.
It would be nigh on impossible to substitute the actual laptop without it being patently obvious.
Hopefully you have your problem sorted Teenup but if not maybe the above will help you. :)

Our Tesco had 3 of these laptops left and interestingly another near identical one which had a AMD processor, only carried one year warranty and other slight differences. Still had the same 1gb memory though.
This was priced at £549 on the shelf edge ticket but we used the in store scanner and it scanned at £449. If it had had the 3 year warranty we probably would have gone for that one.

Hi Michael
If you look at the outer box on the bottom left there is a small grey and white oval with the words " 3 year collect and return manafacturers warranty ".

Like you I only looked at the documentation inside which all states 1 year warranty. I phoned Acer and they say that the 3 year warranty is a local agreement they have with Tesco's and that it will be honoured if the product breaks down. You just need to make sure you don't lose your Tesco's receipt !
If you want to check the above give Acer a ring on 08708531000. They were helpful to me.

been ringing around stores for the last 2 hours and can't find one let alone two within a 30 mile radius of myself, if anyone knows of any stock anywhere in london could they let me know :( thanks guys

So let me get this straight:

- These are still around even though there "Discontinued"?
- Whats the model?
- How much are these?
- Do they come with 3 years warrenty?
- Do these come with vista upgrade? If so to what version of vista?

Thanks

Manufacturers warranty Michael, tells you on the main box just below the lappy picture "3yrs Return & Collect Manufacturers Warranty".

I know what you mean regards the Windows Disk, was the same with a Toshiba I got 3 year ago. Curious as to what disk will be forthcoming with the Vista Upgrade, a bonifide Vista Premium or an Acer customised Vista Premium, bloatware incl..

Thanks for that - I was wondering why it is stated on the box and not in the paperwork. I would suggest in addition to the receipt we all keep a copy of the box!! As thats the only place it mentions the three years.

When I was sold mine the sales staff did not take the inner brown box out to check it. Thank funky it was ok!!
