Batteries cannot be depleted/recharged indefinately, they have a limit, typically 300-500 depending on the battery type etc.

If you need decent battery life because you are not without reach of a power plug alot then you need to consider a superior laptop IMO, that or look for 3rd party/ebay extended batteries to carry with the laptop.

Most people are within reach of a power plug, those who aren't for most of their use should consider the 12-14" laptops with lower power usage components and larger batteries giving 5-8hours+ usage. These laptops are at a premium however.

Acer are terrible, terrible batteries, support is non existant and they refuse warranty repairs such as mine, keyboard faulty after 11 months, returned saying no fault found despite the fact that when you power up the keyboard does not work at all, trading standards now involved yadda yadda yadda lots of unsatisfied customers. AVOID if you think stuff you buy should work
#24
I have the wide screen version of this acer and in the 3 months i have owned it it has been returned for repair 4 times ! and as i write this it is in for repair, it took them 4 weeks to return the laptop the first time and has spent more time not working than working, i think this is a great price so voted hot but these are cheaply made and i think i just got a lemon so was unlikey but when it did work it worked great....oh and i get about 1 hour to 1 hour 20 mins of power from a full charge but you can always by a battery with more cells.
#25
i have this laptop and its spot on for the price, battery lasts 1:45 ish and thats with vista which i think is very acceptable. one thing tho... the sound is very poor imho as it jumps and crackles etc. Thats the only gripe, as for the rest i totally recommend this deal
#26
I have an acer..im sat using it right now. ..also have a toshiba..dell..hp...sony...to me there all the same.
I dont buy something because of the make or because a few people have had bad luck with them. I buy because of the price, and this price is hot hot hot.

I was thinking of buying one, but after reading your post I will give it a miss. Laptop prices are falling and something else will come up soon. cheers
#28
Great price for a Dual-Core Intel laptop. Just keep your fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong within the first year. As far as I can see, the equivalent Dell Vostro is a lot more expensive but that does have the NBD warranty "built-in".
#29
I bought an Acer laptop last January because my kids were always hogging our desktop and the laptop was to be strictly for me and the wife. Now they fight each other over the laptop and I am considering getting another!

The one we've got is heavily used and has never had a problem. Battery life is about an hour at best. Amazing how much prices have come down in 15 months. After quidco & a 5% off voucher I paid just under £500 for a spec inferior to this.

Good choice octupus, Dell have proved so much more reliable for me, Toshiba and Asus i've heard are good as well.

Battery life on mine is a full 10 minutes (if I'm lucky!) according to Acer, there's nothing wrong with it! :x

However, my mum has a Packard Bell and gets ZERO minutes battery life (PB says there's nowt wrong there either!). Not as this is a problem for either my mum or I coz we just use it via the mains.

Neighbour has a Toshiba and gets about 2 hours battery life.

Hmm, I have ordered one of these cos I need a good laptop for work. This is a great price for a tidy laptop.

To be honest people, you could do worse and buy something like an advent or e-system / philips. Acer is middle range, just sat below compaq.

PC World a few years ago stopped selling acer because of their very very poor customer service and warranty. However over the last year or so have started selling them again. I used to manage customer services in PC World and acer service was second to none (this was about a year ago) - We sent base units to them and they were back with us next day in some occasions.

But at the end of the day, play.com is a respectable company that has been round for a while. If acer wont help us, the good ole sales of goods act will. If not that, our credit cards ;)

Sorry can't agree with that.

5hours + can be achieved from a 9cell battery being used on a Vostro Dual core x2 1000 15.4" screen and no-one could describe those machines as 'premium'. Also I have a 13" Macbook and although you pay a premium for the smaller footprint notebook this also reduces the size of the battery and consequently you get around 2-3 hours use.

Thing is, dell vostro laptops have the accomodation for the larger batteries. There is no way however that u would get that long out of a laptop battery if u are using it heavily.

Macs usually last alot longer due to their engineering and low power operating system. 2 hours is excellent for any laptop to be honest. I have owned at least 20 laptops and 2 hours is the max i have ever had.

so? what is your point? Acer is providing good service to PC World otherwise they will stop selling them (all part of marketing ****). Does not mean they will provide the same level of service to other individuals.

yes, but you are not going to get a dell for this cheap. Its good for people on a budget. Dell are for people who are prepared to pay for top quality. But this would do for the every day user
