That's a really good processor the T7500. Hmm...I was going to get a Dell Studio 17 which only has a T5750 and it's £500. Voted hot, it's a bargain for people who have no idea about computers but sort of buy according to the best value for money. Oh and Tesco do 12 months interest-free credit if you have a tesco debit/credit card.

Seems like a good deal. I bought a lesser specification (slower processor, less RAM) Acer laptop for my teenage son last year, when he started college, for about £50 more.

As my lad is a bit on the clumsy side I invested in Acer's repair insurance. This has worked very well and been good value so far (one damaged keyboard, screen scratched, power supply cord damaged).

Despite the hard use and cosmetic damage the electronic parts have been faultless.

I bought my package from laptopsdirect.co.uk so make sure you check their website and the Quidco they currently offer before committing yourself.

Well, at least he might get off Facebook and do some work for his A levels.

Until the replacement under the 3 year warranty arrives, at least.

really hoping someone can help.

what do these laptops come with in the way of software on CD?

more and more computers seem to come with everything preinstalled with no CD backup.

if this is the case, i am assuming some kind of OS will be saved on the HD?

the main reason i want to know is because i hate all the rubbish that comes preinstalled. i like to get it, format it and install the OS then just the software i want.

i have never had and hardly ever used a laptop. assuming i can format the HD what kind of things are on a laptop that i would have to hunt down drivers for?

also i read somewhere else that this laptop comes configured with the HD in two partitions, again would it be possible to merge them along with a format?

thanks for any help.

I've had an Acer for just over a year. It came with no Cds. Everything is pre-installed and you are asked to make a back-up DVD when you first start the machine.
You can format it easily but then you would need to install your own copy of windows as I don't think you can choose to install just the OS from the discs you made.
The hard drive is on FAT
Drivers are not a problem as they are all on the Acer website.

you are asked to make a back up which is stored internally on the D drive on this laptop

Welcome to hukd!

I wouldn't have thought so, I don't think you can generally upgrade graphics in laptops. Either get the one you want with decent graphics or go with a desktop you can upgrade.

So after nearly 8 years the backlight finally went on mine (laptop on 24/7). Started flickering about 2 weeks ago. On the plus side a few months ago somebody gave me a couple of stripped non working HP6735 laptops so I swapped the screen out of one of those and it lives on, albeit with a matt screen rather than a glossy one..

Acer FTW!
