Was in Makro in Manchester the other day and thought this was the deal in their leaflet but when I checked its much better for the same price. This is cheaper than anywhere else I have seen it - Only snag is you have to be a member of Makro.

£289.99 Excl Vat - £340.74 Incl

good deal but make sure you check that it's working straight away.

i got stung by them last week. bought an lcd tv on dec 18th as a christmas present for a relative but didn't get round to installing it until last friday. it had a dead pixel so took it back to makro and was told that they were no longer able to deal with the matter as it was over 7 days since purchase. i had to contact the manufacturer and they collected the tv on monday to replace the faulty screen!

apparently, as they are a wholesaler the '28 days' rule doesn't apply.

9 times out of 10 its best to contact the manufacturer anyway - less quibbles - plus they cover the cost of picking up the item.

For your statutory rights you should ALWAYS check an item works straight away - if you delay and then find damage or a fault (regardless of the retailer) you can be classed as accepting the item and lose your right to a refund. Large retail outlets and supermarkets (ARGOS/ASDA) very rarely argue and will usually give a refund/exchange.
Sometimes contacting the retailers head office and making your case can help (I have had experience of this with HMV)

Anyway just to let you know this laptop is really good and it is "pretty" according to my partner!! Plays loads of new(ish) games without any problems compared to my Dell Laptop which couldnt play a basic RTS game!! Dell have far too much rubbish on their laptops!!

I am happy with my dell laptop which still beats this in price and spec. Never have liked the sound of acer for some reason. If someone can get it then why not but its not my cup of tea.

Much better looking than the Dells...

A reasonable price, but Acer build quality scares me a little. I think I'd rather pay a bit more and get a Vostro or HP 6720s.

Seconded. This deal is **** to be honest. You'd be miles off better by going with the Dell deals which are going around as they are much higher in spec + a little cheaper.

Would be really stupid of someone going for this deal and not the Dell ones.

I used to have an Acer, hated it and will never go back to it - had a few problems with warranty and it was a nightmare to resolve.

Just to give some balance ---
My friend has an Acer laptop and it seems very 'solid'.
He has had no probs in 2 years.
I read somewhere that Acer sells more notebooks in Europe than
anyone else . Doesn't mean their support is any good, of course.

Dell look and feel poor compared to acers, we deal with dell and hp at work every week and dell has the worst customer service of anyone i know. i would never recommend them to anyone AVOID!!!! (hp are very good though so i would recommend those) :p

That's weird because we receive fantastic service from Dell at work. It all depends on the service agreement you buy with them.

I use 2 Acer laptops. One is 4 years old the other is a new 5720. I've bought around 10 or so of their laptops for family and friends. Absolutely fantastic pieces of kit and great value.
Their customer support is superb.
My niece's 4 year old Acer developed a fault with the hard-drive - a week before Christmas. It was outside of the 3 year Acer Advantage warranty. She told them that is was out of warranty. No problem they told her. Next day a UPS chap came to collect it. By Friday 21st December it was returned to her by courier - all fixed and NO CHARGE. Now that is customer service. They even placed an Acer Christmas card in the package too.
On the other hand my colleague's 18th month old Dell inspiron packed up. Dell want him to pay for cost of sending the laptop to Dell and then will charge for inspection and any repair if required.

My only gripe with the new Acers is the fact that they have Vista installed on them.
Apart from that, they are excellent.

I liked the look of the Acers, however, I couldn't get one with the spec I wanted for the money, got myself an Inspiron 1720. absolute bargain, good solid feel. I give this deal a positive vote....but I can't knock dell...and we are totally dell at work which helped in my decision making.

I've got this laptop and I have to say that I am over the moon with it. The build quality is outstanding and the screen is, oh my, gorgeous!

You can't go wrong with Acer really, quality products for excellent value.
