Which is better - http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/samsung-r530-t4300-windows-7-3gb-25/745558?view=lastreadpost or this one? Don't care about the hard drive space, just overall performance? The Currys one I can get for £299 less quidco - is this worth the extra £70?

Only an issue if you want a webcam and more than 2 usb ports!

How does this compare with a i3 processor?

On this benchmarking website, the CPU in this laptop scores 1524
whereas i3s are between 2000 and 3000

Thanks, but how does it compare with my AMD TL60 ? I only do surfing, downloading music, office work, so would this suffice?

This is almost exactly 50% more powerful (in benchmarks anyway) and would happily do a little grunt work never mind what you'll need out of it. It will more than meet your needs :) I will only warn to beware the onboard graphics card though, pretty much eliminates any hope of gaming in the future (if you ever chose to) other than that, fantastic laptop, considering it myself to do much heavier work!

Can anyone recommend a good deal on a gaming laptop? Budget approx £500

This is an excellent laptop for the price as long as you don't require a webcam or hdmi etc. I have supplied a lot of the same model (and another model variant with webcam) to various clients and having used the laptops myself I was really impressed. Good build quality too.
