Pity, as I'm looking for a laptop around this price.

I have just purchased one a Acer Aspire 5738, These are a very good laptop if you do get the correct unit but to please be aware of a few issues before purchasing one of these.... Some of these are manufactucted with Bluetooth built in while some are not! there is a bluetooth button near the keyboard and if it has a white sticker underneath it has got bluetooth and your one of the lucky ones.. Also acer had a issue with some of these overheating due to a faulty bios.....http://customercare.acer-euro.com/customercare/AcerUpdate.aspx?CID=GB&LID=ENG&IType=JV50 I would certainly think thou any laptops purchased from now wont be any of the older faulty stock but i thought id post to give people heads up.

some reviews of this laptop on amazon - http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B002IVTTJC/ref=cm_rdp_hist_hdr_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

good price, but i've had bad experience with overheating laptops.

An obvious thing to remember is not to use your laptop without placing it on a surface where it can breathe....I have seen people keep placing them on beds, quilts, sofas & even on coats-towels etc while on thier knees....no wonder they overheat! they need to get air thru the vents underneath and out the sides for the hard drives and graphics cards....The amount of times i keep reminding my teenage daughter to get her laptop back onto the flat solid piece of cardboard on her knee.....We have some of them foldable tables that fit the task... Dont expect your laptop to last long if you are 'nt taking care.

Should be with W7 if it's a newish model. The fact that this comes with Vista means it's old stock and therefore could still have the faulty Bios. It's more risky to install a Bios update yourself.

Don't forget the extra cost for W7 which must be added to the purchase price.

what about this deal ? Acer Aspire 5738z plus a printer, I ordered this deal and it arrived today great laptop, has built in bluetooth too which i dont think is stated on Ebuyer. and its upgradable for £12 to windows 7, didnt really need the printer but its cheaper in the deal than on its own.
or and by the way these models havent got the faulty bios either.

does this one have a NVIDIA GeForce G 105M? Or will it have the usual intel integrated stuff?
According to http://www.notebookcheck.net/Acer-Aspire-5738G.20061.0.html it should have. But then again there a probably many different versions of this model.

tbh the hardware for laptops at this range is still the same since 2008.

also graphics is Mobile Intel GM45 Express, will do football manager 2010 and hd playback only, FYI, as this was omitted from OP.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD

You're not going to be playing any games with that GPU.....

Just to clarify there are various versions of the 5738, some with higher end graphics cards and others with blu ray players etc.

A good find.

This 5739G has a slightly faster CPU but does have a fairly decent Nvidia 130m graphics card with 1Gb on board.
https://www.simplyacer.com/5739

I realise its not a gaming machine, but it should do a half decent job at medium resolution for most of the games. Ok its also £100 more, I know.
Also Agos clearance on ebay have a few 6930G 's at £399.They have Nvidia 960Gs with 512mb. Both machines have 4GB ram and Vista with upgrade at circa £12 to W7. The Argos would be able to play many of the games. I cant afford over £2000 for a games machine so I'll put up with lower res.

I bought this model from The Link about 2 weeks ago for £349 but they no longer have it in stock. Was going to post it oh here but i'm lazy. Can't complain at getting a core2duo and 4Gig DDR3 for under £350

Mine came with the Vista installed and the bios was the version after the dodgy one that overheated the power supply.

Dropped windows 7 ultimate 64bit on it and runs sweet.

I guess at just under £400 it still is an okish deal but for this price i would start to be looking for a dedicated graphics card.
#18
Does the argos one have bluray?
#19
This better or this hotukdeals.com/item/558328/acer-aspire-5530g-4gb-blu-ray-15-4i

4Gb of RAM, but a 32-bit version of Vista? Fail!

I use my laptop on my bed all the time and it's fine my vents are on the side as they are on most laptops. As long as you leave space around the vents for the hot air to be blown out they are fine.
