Microsoft Windows makes it stone cold.

Not a bad deal but I'd say a couple of things...

Last year I bought a 16" lappy that does 1369 x 768 (a Medion from Aldi that cost £399). I use it almost 100% at home for gaming. For me, battery life and weight just aren't that important.

With the benefit of hindsight, I wish now that I'd bought one with a 17" screen and a better graphics card. I have my eye on a Dell Studio 17. For £599 you can get a 17" screen, and i3-330M, a 320 GB fast HDD (or a 500 GB slower HDD) and, most importantly, an ATI 5650 graphics card (see link)....

http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&oc=N0074902&dgc=AF&cid=5212&lid=122756&acd=25daf8cf8130e534635b4d30110d20be

I only offer this up because right now, it strikes me that there is very little by way of true price difference between 15.6" & 17.3" laptops. If portability isn't a priority for you, you might want to spend and extra £100 and get something bigger and much faster.

I think if £500 is your budget, this is probably the best you can do if moderate gaming + decent amount of mobility are important to you.

Edit: And as for Microsoft Windows making it cold, most laptops come with an Ms OS.

This particular Dell 1564 is worse not better! It has no dedicated graphics card whereas the Acer has a dedicated ATI 5470. If you add on the cost of the graphics card to the Dell, it comes out at £528 (see link below) and that higher than the OP's price at Currys.

http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&oc=N0055802&dgc=AF&cid=5212&lid=122756&acd=c39aa1598162ec6675494e83f308ba7e

Adding to what I said earlier, it strikes me that the Dell Studio 17's are better specified that the Studio 15's and don't cost a whole lot more.

I find it very hard to please people with laptops/PC's on HUKD...

It needs to be a WOW look at that price! and then they tend to go pretty quickly...

It is a good deal, but it's only about £20-30 cheaper then anything out there and then some people will say "oh it's acer it's crap, the hinges will break blah blah blah" then someone will come in saynig Acer are the best brand ever! I am working on a 17 year old one which still features parralell ports and has a floppy disk drive! oooo ahhhh

sorry i am rambling now... moral is... if it isnt about £50+ lower then the market price... it wont be that hot.

Hope it help.

Dont be put off though, it is a good deal
