for the money u would expect a better GPU imo, i was weighing this up against the emachine E640 @£380 with a phenom 930 cpu and a 4250 radeon. its a close call, as cpu are pretty much on a par the gpu are also on a par, tis a close call imo

How about the Acer Aspire 5551A 250GB 15.6in Laptop selling for £349 in Argos with a 3 year manufacturers warranty ? Slightly slower but a good deal i think

i would throw the nortons out for sure, orrible software, slows systems to crawl and the anti virus is rubbish, avg and advast are free and miles better, i take nortons back and smack the sales person round the head for even giving it to u free :p

I know Acer are no Asus, Toshiba or Sony but I wouldn't give an e-machine house room. That's just my personal prejudice - otherwise if all other things are equal the 930 with 4250 is a better option as it at least has rudimentary gaming ability.

The 5741A also has a 3-year warranty; but yes the 5551A is also good value. (It has been even cheaper than that - on Argos ebay outlet)

I wouldn't have rated Asus any higher than Acer. I posted this yesterday morning after ordering one and the moderator cancelled it, saying it was a repeat from the same deal posted about 5 weeks ago which expired 2 weeks ago. Expecting delivery today - already at Sunderland Depot this morning, should be out for afternoon delivery slot.

Can't help thinking there'll be a better deal in the sales, but wor lass won't wait until boxing day for her xmas present!

As already said, bin Norton.Have had no bother with Avira Antivir in 3 years of use - great freebie anti-virus software.

Hope your lass likes her new lappy :)

Asus had the lowest failure rates in this years Square Trade laptop reliability report http://www.squaretrade.com/pages/laptop-reliability-1109 ; Square Trade are the largest warranty provider in the US their information is probably quite reliable - and hopefully can be translated to the UK...
That survey just looks at malfunctions and not what the companies support is like...

Confirmed delivery today for this item from Argos. I did order "Next day" on Weds, but as the delivery firm only got it at 1am yesterday morning from Weds ordering, it's unfair to criticise them for failing to deliver it yesterday. It's turning up "next day" from when the delivery firm got their hands on it.

Can't see this laptop dropping much more in the sales, so I don't feel too bad getting it now. £400ish for any branded laptop with i3 330/350/370M processor with decent size of memory and HDD seems about right, these are bang up to date processors at the high end of the budget price spectrum.

I predict it'll be the laptops with T3500/4500 and P6000/6100 processors currently selling for upwards of £300 that have the furthest to drop in the sales.

Got mine with a tenner off from a previous Argos purchase.
