i just got this laptop from tesco, with a slightly better spec for £349.99.
i3-380m 2.53ghz, 3gb ram, 500gb hdd
just been reduced the other day! good laptop!
#10
There is also a trade in offer on Amazon (up to £150), unfortunately the link isn't working at the moment. May be worth it, if you have an old laptop lying around.

its a great laptop but the Sound is MONO and yes it does make a diff.

yes u pay for what u get!!!!!

Mine failed (The Sound) just after two months but this is amazon that we are talking about.

I can return the laptop but lose +/- 30 pounds because of special delivery.

i dont regret having bought it but if like me u like to play online then buy some else with a 5650 in it.. these is good just for online stuf .

Hi can you clarify the sound issue for me please? It has 1 on-board speaker hence mono sound, but is it stereo with headphones?

Many thanks
#13
If it is £300, then hot and attractive.
#14
Sounds like this could be my next laptop however anyone have more info about how bad the mono speaker is? And can anyone find More info about the trade in?
#15
My friend got the same but slightly higher spec from tesco yest.it was 349.99 he got it for 315 coz he gets staff discount..spec wise its unbeatable in terms of competition in this price range.u wud be lucky if u get a dual core at any high street store for 350 and this is an i3. Yh theres only 1 speaker n that too is crap.also itz not really a show off laptop looks a bit of cheap plastic.but again if u just wanna buy urself a good machine to last u a few years this is a bargain..
#16
can anyone recommend a similar spec'd reasonably priced notebook with a better battery life (4+ hrs) perhaps with a smaller screen? ta.

Slightly worse processor (350M vs 370M) but bigger HDD (320gb vs 250gb) and better other specs (stereo speakers not mono, lightscribe etc) for £20 more and can be picked up in store if needed.
#18
spec looks good, but not too sure if that 6 cell can do 5 hrs+.
ideally one with 9 cell would be perfect. any suggestions? ta.

Just checked the trade in. I have an old Acer Travelmate 220. Intel celeron, 20GB drive, 512mb ram, cd-rw/dvd rom was offered £25.

Also the trade in website does state "If your laptop is not as originally described, and upon inspection it appears that there is a fault with the laptop, or if the condition of the laptop is poor, then we do reserve the right to offer a lesser fee or even withdraw our offer altogether"
#22
Trade in is quite poor compared to HP's that has just expired, Just got offered £89 for a Core 2 Duo Toshiba, but I suppose it's hassle free instead of selling. Anything older and your getting pittance really, also they were only offering around £110 for a I3 laptop !!!!

Well still a hot offer if you want a cheap I3 but I will probably hang on for a better offer and better cashback !!!

It is nice laptop. I bought from PCworld 2 weeks before with 320GB HDD. This is best laptop with the price range (from my 2 months search in online for laptops). It is MONO only. But, offers decent music. I am happy to use on my day to day work. You can use some winamp plugins to get better music also. I haven't tried that. Only issue is, Bluetooth is not given. For me, Bluetooth is not important. If it is required, you can get a Bluetooth adapter separately for few pounds.

Overall, Very good laptop with the price.
#24
Yup, the Tesco version is well worth the extra £20 over this one. 500GB HDD & an i3 380M

Thanks for the reply, I always use headphones or external speakers with our laptops “2 Dell’s a HP” and an Acer as the inbuilt speakers all sound crap anyway.

I bought one last year at £379 from Argos. It came with 3 year Acer warranty (£50 bought on its own) and a retail sealed copy of Norton 2010 which I sold for £16 on ebay. So the current offer price seems about right. It's also a very good laptop - the screen colours are a little muted but on my 1920*1080 23" screen it looks fabulous. Highly recommended.

I think you guys are forgetting its an acer....

Acer Timeline X 4820T 250GB 14 Inch Laptop £400 at Argos

My only experience of Acer is two cheap laptops 3-4 years back, both died within 2 months. Never again for me i'm afraid.

I bought this in January at £379.99 from Amazon. Wish I'd waited now because of the price lol. But this laptop is amazing value for money, the processor is pretty decent for the price and for an average user like me the screen and sound is ok. The battery lasts about 3 hours with heavy use. I use an external USB sound card but the speaker is pretty loud on this. The build is a bit plasticky but it's fine if you don't want anything too flashy. The HDMI output is amazing as mentioned before.
#33
I've been waiting for a sub £350 i3. Some good comments on here. Heat from me.

Does anyone know about the extended warranty amazon offer - 3year from squaretrade:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00448KE46/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=AISROPIK7BSFK

Is that worth doing?

Not sure if this is a better deal,Slightly worse Processor,I was always told stay clear of acer because the build quality is horrible.

Thanks for posting this, but the Tesco version mentioned in earlier comments (posts #9 and #19) is the better deal. £7 in clubcard points and £9 Quidco brings the difference down to only £4 for a faster processor and bigger hard drive. Plus store pick up is more convenient if you’re not at home all day and it’s much easier to return it if there’s a problem.
