Nice spec, and all 3 of my local (all within 20 miles) Comets have stock of this.

But I reckon this is a better deal, if you can find a Sainsbury's with stock

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/medion-p6624-laptop-akoya-i5-2-53gh/833834?page=7

Slightly more expensive, at £499, but it has a 1Gb dedicated NVIDIA GT425M graphics card, which will make a big difference if you plan on using it for games.

My local Sainsbury's has one left, so there should be others.

brilliant deal.just reserved 1 in wigan. Also tracked 3% at quidco! lol

The Comet laptop CPU is about 65% faster

Does it matter that this has no separate graphics card? Would it be worth dealing with Comet to put one in?

It all depends if you plan on playing any 3D games on it (I don't mean the ones with glasses, I mean the Call of Duty/FPS shooter type). Then yes, it will make a great deal of difference.

I am not sure exactly what you mean about your Comet comment. Are you asking if you could get Comet to put one in? if that's what you are asking, it can't be done. The laptops graphics can't e upgraded.

That's why I reckon the Sainsbury's deal (from post #10) is better (if you can find a store with stock), as it has a dedicated NVIDIA GT425M graphics card for those fancy graphic intensive games.

How come all the laptops I'm interested not have bluetooth?

Picked 1 up a few hours ago just about , when we went to pay for it the girl scanned box and asked for £499 plus approx another £500 ontop i said WTF..... and she showed me a list of extras ie anti virus software etc, you can remove that lot... which she did and then said i still had to pay £499... i said no way we reserved it online at £474.99, she said look at my screen says £499, so then i got my mobile out and show them my confirmation email and i said look at my screen it says £474.99. then another 4 other staff members came over 1 guy put comet website up on other screen showing the £499! I said we are walking over too currys to get it from there instead unless you give it to us for discounted price next thing another staff member brought the reservation up on another screen showing discounted price....... surprise surprise!! So be warned stand your ground as they just kept trying it on! Thanks again to OP.

I reserved one online and when I went to collect it from store the price was £499. As i only had the reservation number they tried to fob me off, but I stood my ground and eventually got the £25 discount.
So stand your ground and take a copy of your reservation email........

Thats messed up. Hows the laptop?
#22
Naruto i'am no techie but so far it seems to be A1, i basically just made sure my nephew set it up correctly as he can sometimes be to impatient when having to read instructions etc, he hopes to be able to use the laptop for his school work ie graphics work and he wants to put adobe photoshop c5 or something similar on it, other than that just wants it for everday use, so we will see how it performs over the next few days and weeks! The only other thing i can say is that the response time to commands loading internet pages is a very quick, a lot faster than my lenovo g550 and the hd screen a lot sharper image.

Compared to this one for £379.99) http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/acer-aspire-5742-15-6-inch-notebook-intel-core-i3-370m-processor-2-4ghz-3gb-ram/854925/#post10406183

This deal has ~17% better Passmark for the processor (i5 460M Passmark 2,591 vs i3 370M Passmark 2220): http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

180Gb more HDD space as well, 1Gb extra RAM, and that's about it for the £95 (25%) premium - not sure that is a good deal (edit: same value as 370M imv).

Because in the main pay and conditions aren't great, so they are never gonna attract the best people. If they manage to, the best people soon realise what's happening and move on....

The one your asking about has:
Intel Core i3 380M @ 2.53GHz Passmark 2,274

This deal has:
Intel Core i5 460M @ 2.53GHzPassmark 2,591

Yours has 2Gb RAM, this 3Gb. Your has 2 USB ports, this has 3 USB ports. OS on yours not sure about.

All in all with just a brief look I'd say this deal edges out yours.

You might want to consider this one, just to confuse the situation even further: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/acer-aspire-5742-15-6-inch-notebook-intel-core-i3-370m-processor-2-4ghz-3gb-ram/854925/#post10411760

Good price, voted hot.

As I don't game with my laptop I would rather have the extra battery life than dedicated graphics.

I really don't need one but there's stock at my local Comet (wigan) ... oO

They must have a few, then! There's someone in this thread who reserved one, I reserved one for my mum and they've still one left?!

I bought one of these from Comet through Reserve and Collect on 5th of January and have been using it every day since so can give decent review:

Bad points:

Doesn't charge phones or other devices USB when powered off which is a total pain.
Screen smaller than previous decent spec 15.6 screen Intel Duel core Acer
Comes with extra numeric keyboard which is un-needed and means no seperate volume controls etc.
Power plug is at side not at back of laptop
USB ports at left and right side and none at back which is hopeless if using on small table - have had to buy USB splitter - seen this when bought it so no excuse. Most modern laptops like this now though I believe.
Doesn't look like it could be repaired easily by myself like previous Acer laptop.

Good points

Seems quick enough - despite no dedicated graphics card plays Tiger Woods Online no problem with other stuff running.
Battery lasts ages
HDMI output is very good from laptop to TV
Laptop very thin
Is mega quiet.

Looking at this £25 discount am gutted I didn't get it being a bargain hunter!
