thanks to cold voters for not giving a reason... as usual, This seems like a good deal to me, if it isn't fine but would like to know the reasons - was geniunly thinking of buying this don't want to if it's not a good deal... but again why??

I personally would never buy Acer make laptop... As for this one, processor is outdated and graphics are poor too. Better to invest mor money for decent laptop as you can t upgrade it as easy as desktop.

My Girlfriend has the Acer Aspire 5742G which has an Intel Core i5 and dedicated Graphics which i think is why this deal is frowned upon by others?

But for the price mate i think this is a good deal

The laptop itself is fantastic the good reviews are correct in my opinion

I bought this laptop in the sale from Comet at this price. For me, for the price it does exactly what i want, runs football manager with extensive league selection all playable at a very fast speed and i can do a bit of music production on it. Agreed with above it does have an intergrated graphics chip so your not going to be playing games on it,

Only thing that bugs me is that the cheapos at acer decided "two speakers...thats would be over the top...lets just put one tinny little speaker in it on the left hand side and leave the right hand side empty." So whilst there are options there for virtual surround sound etc, it is pointless. (i use my headphones anyway so its not too bad.

I would certainly recommend it though.

* Having just looked at your spec list again i must have a different model think mine is just a 5742 as it has an i3 processor and only a 250gb hard drive

Didn't realise you had to give a reason for voting cold!!! but my reason is as the last post can get an i3 for this price, had 2 acers before one lasted 5 days the other 3 yrs so not sure if they are any good. The price is nothing special available at other places for the same price.
If you just want a laptop for everyday use facebook, internet, emails etc then have a look at

I voted cold because the "Z" version of the 5742 is the slowest and most outdated of the 5742 clan. The "G" is the best (with the i5 processor) the "[no letter]" is the mid (with the i3 processor).

This one seems to have 1Gb more memory and a larger HD than the 5742[no letter] posted the other day which I think is much better value (and one I bought - I'm trying to to be bias though).

To compare, this deal has the following processor and Passmark:
Intel Pentium P6100 @ 2.00GHz Passmark 1,562

The standard 5742 has:
Intel Core i3 370M @ 2.40GHz Passmark 2,220

That's a substantial difference imv, and while RAM and HD's can be swapped out of laptops fairly easily, processor cannot.

As they're the same price £379.99 each), I think the i3 5742 is better value.

Thanks, thats the kind of info I was looking for - it's processors that I really don't understand and I assumed this was better than the i3 model due to bigger harddrive and more RAM - but if it's the processor that's the more important bit I'll do some more research :)

@hutchir9, thanks for your imput aswell - and I don't expect everyone to give a reason, just if no one has it's hard to work out why it's not a good deal ;)

Appreciate everyone else's feedback, I'm off to spend my day researching!

Did you buy this in any of the deals that have been around lately, and if so, which one?
