  i've never had an Acer so can't comment on that but really good spec for the price. I have almost the same on my dell xps (bought last year for £530 from the outlet) and that has been fantastic. Only difference is this has a slighlty better graphics card so should run most games pretty well. Certainly an option for people wanting an all round gaming laptop for a decent price.

  Seems a good price, my 2GB 630M and 3rd gen i5 laptop runs games like Guild Wars 2 and Just Cause 2 fine so I imagine this will do an ample job running some recent games.

  This is a brilliant deal, only thing I've seen that competes at this price is stuff from dell outlet, and even with refurbished machines from dell you're often getting a worse GPU and CPU for this price. If I had a spare £500 I'd buy one right now.

  As usual it's hard to get gaming benchmarks of mobile parts but looking at

  the 630M is only a few % faster than a HD4000 so what's the point?
  
  Extra cost, weight, heat to have an Nvidia logo? Discrete graphics in a laptop are never a good idea, and after what happened a few years ago with the millions of Nvidia defect laptops having an Nvidia GPU in a laptop is an even worse idea - although I guess they are unlikely to make that mistake again but still...

  At this price level I'd want a 2 year gaurantee. Any cheap Acer warranties around?

  Seems the HUKD police don't like my links. I'll try again. At this price (not just because its an Acer) I'd want an extended warranty. Note that Saveonlaptops also do a 3 year warranty for £50 (half price). This is, of-course, assuming that the extended warranty is worth the paper its written on.

  I bought the i5 version of this a while back for a similar price.
  
  Build quality for the price, performance is superb - it happily runs Photoshop and Skyrim.
  
  I had plans for swapping a solid state HD in but the resume from hibernation is very quick.
  
  I did have problems with the initial install of Windows 7 which I couldn't get around so did a wipe and reinstall.

  Do not be put off - Acer make some quality machines, extremely well thought out design. I had to source a number of laptops recently inc Lenova, Siemens and Samsung, they were all rubbish in comparison to my Acer 5741z (bar the Samsung) in terms of build quality and durability of plastics, trackpad etc, my personal 2 yr old Acer still looks brand new and murdered them in terms of everything except CPU all core i3's (Acer was P6200), the brushed metal effect on palm rest area is smudge free and hard wearing, the outside is lovely and scratches etc wont show up, the track pad is better then the Samsungs and anything else I have tried.
  
  I thought my Acer was a cheap budget lappy but when I saw, tried and felt the competition I elevated it to the top, Samsung are also right up there at the top, just my opinion. Core i7 - This is a steal, if I was looking I wouldn't think twice.

  £500 for a second gen i7 not so hot i'm afraid when a third gen i5 benchmarks the same! Save your money!!
