can't find any reviews of this laptop. specs look ridiculously good
#8
I'm gonna go for this. if it doesn't live upto the specs then its going back. if it does I'm gonna be one happy lil bunny
#9
I thought it was too good to be true; if you look at the extended spec it says:

“8600M GS GPU with 512 MB of dedicated GDDR2 VRAM”

So it’s not the 8600M GT and it’s using the slower GDDR2.

You can buy a slightly lower spec (2GHz, 2GB RAM) with a 3 year warranty, bag and mouse for £500 including delivery – 2% Quidco from laptopsdirect.

I have just spoken to both acer and amazon and this is indeed the Aspire 5920G-603G25Hn, which has the 8600M GT 512MB graphics. So great deal, this is the highest spec available in the 5920xx range.
#16

Your correct  I ordered when this deal was posted, and as Im a amazon prime member I will get it tomorrow, so I will let you know when I get it.
#17
mines coming on friday. went with the amazon prime thing too. hope its easy to cancel
#18

That’s good to see but it uses GDDR2 which isn’t ideal but at least it is the GT version – Acer.

If you’re lucky and/or patient you might get an XPS M1530 with a similar spec from the Dell Outlet for around £450. I bagged one with 2GHz, 3GB, 250GB for £452 delivered and that has the 8600M GT with GDDR3; the offer is ending soon though.
I voted this hot though and I can't stand Acer.

Excellent laptop, I'm posting from one now.

Nope, completely different, look at the spec  Less ram, 256mb graphics vs 512mb, slower processer (slightly) etc
#24
is this not same computer only 50 quid cheaper ?

http://www.acerdirect.co.uk/Acer_Asp...41/version.asp

that ones 2.0 Ghz, 2 gig ram with a 8600 gs

this is ones 2.2 ghz, 3 gig ram and 8600 GT
#25
So would this laptop be good for high spec gaming like half life??

The ASSY 8600m GT used in Dell systems is GDDR2 not 3. You have to get a 8700m GT to get GDDR3 from Dell. As far as Im aware the only company to use the 8600m GT chipset with GDDR3 was Asus.
#27
hah, these laptops are higher spec than my desktop.. why on earth do people need 3GB RAM on their laptop? 2GB just not enough?!

it is a lot of bang for buck though i'd agree, i just wouldn't see the point of carrying one of these around..
#28
Is anyone here a little concerned about the recent bad press Nvidia have been getting about the 8400m -8600m series cards? Seems they have a design fault.
banned#29
THis is a really really good spec. Does anyone have this laptop, this exact model? Or a similar 5920g model. Whats the battery life like, as it does have a dedicated graphics card which normally affects the battery life.

Does the graphics card in this use, GDDR2 or GDDR3 memory speed? How do you know?

Can someone post the vista ratings for each of the 5 sections :)

thanks

I have had the model below this one since xmas 2007 and its a fantastic laptop. Mine is the Acer 5920G with a T5450 (1.66ghz), 2gb ram, Geforce 8600m GS graphics and no bluetooth. I would recommend it to anyone!

Yeah its a good laptop but if you have to travel around a lot that's far too much its like carying a brick. Still hot though, more of a desktop replacement really.

Absolutely yes.
I have the first generation of this model (2GHz CPU, 2GB RAM, 120GB HDD) with the same nvidia card (8600M GT).
I have "The Orange Box" with all the HL2 games, TeamFortress2 and Portal. I have not had a single dropped frame at the native rez of 1280x800.

The mainstream Dell’s apparently do use GDDR2 with the 8600 GT but the XPS models definitely use GDDR3; I’ve used an XPS M1530 and checked the specs.

Dell Outlet is not brand new - this is.

The Dell has a better warranty (24/7 phone support and on-site warranty) and most Outlet items have been returned within 30 days. Some people might say that a 30 day old Dell XPS with an on-site warranty is a better option than a new Acer. It's just another choice.

Wrong - the DELL outlet machines are absolutely as-new when you receive them !
Yes, they have "history", but you could never tell.

"As new" is not new or they would call it new! :p

Fancy getting one, with the extended 2 yr accidental warranty plus bag etc for £65, But seeing as the laptop is currently not due to be dispatched until 30 July, how would i stand on returning the warranty,if for instance Amazon run out of stock and cant supply the lappy (has happened before with a hdd from Amazon)

Cant seem to find the same warranty through Amazon themself for some reason !!
