Does this really have a 16" WUXGA Full HD 1920 x 1080 display?
#3
Not sure why this is marked as expired - it isn't showing as out of stock.

However, I'm confused about the CPU - the product name says it's a T5800 but the description says it's AMD...
#4
Everywhere else, this model has the AMD processor in the description... suspect the title is a mistake

Where does it say that?

Heat and rep added - almost bought this from play.com for £500 yesterday!

"Screen Type 16" Full HD Acer CineCrystal TFT LCD"

The "Full HD" part should mean "WUXGA 1920 x 1080" as shown on the Acer product page http://www.acer.co.uk/acer/product.do?link=oln85e.redirect&changedAlts=&CRC=600100215#wrAjaxHistory=0

If it is only 1366 x 768 then it's not "Full HD" I would not put it past Tesco to accidentally get it wrong, as they apparently have with describing it as having a T5800 which it obviously hasn't.

This looks good to me, though I am not a laptop expert.

I have been looking at the Acer 6930g which appears to be pretty much the same specification as this and is £480 !

don't forget Quidco aswell - 3% I believe

Please Rep me someone...
#11
I have the very same laptop bought from Comet for £499 two months ago, and can confirm the processor is AMD Turion X2 dual-core.

Also doesn't have full HD

Love the laptop though - has HDMI out to watch blu-rays on your TV, plays most latest games (Call of Duty, Spore, Crysis).

Heat added!!

Naw.

Everyone knows that Tesco gives 3% Quidco;-)

ive got the 6930g, with core 2 duo, the screen is amazing full hd and can do all the above with geforce 9300 quality bit of kit
#14
Bought a Tesco/Acer lappy a few weeks ago and had to return it as mis-described so check the spec carefully.
#15
Ok just noticed on my laptop (yes I'm sad and left the stickers on there) it says "Full HD 1080 Playback", but my display resolution won't go higher than 1366 x 768!??

Hi All,

So what I want to know is this a mis-description? - i've ordered one but will be looking at the spec for the hd screen and hope it is 4gig!!

It will probably output a Full HD picture via HDMI, a typically sneaky trick to mislead the unwary.

I was Thinking of getting a samsung, R510 but tempted by this. How do acers compare to samsungs? which make is more reliable. I've heard Acers do have battery problems. is that true?

The description says it has a 16" Full HD Acer CineCrystal display so that's what it should have.

Note the Acer product page appears to show that there are two different versions. One with "Acer CineCrystal" which should be 1920 x 1080 and one with "Acer CrystalBrite" which will be 1366 x 768. If the machine turns up with the latter you will be well within your rights to ask for a full refund including postage.

I'm no expert but I would suspect the Samsungs to have a better build quality.
#22
Just ordered. Looks like a good deal to me. Also the mis-description makes it easier to return if I'm not happy with it...
Heat & rep to OP.

many thanks - knew I'd be within my rights for the refund but will be hugely disappointed if it isnt the better spec!

Looking at the Acer web site it seems there are two models in the 6530 range, see here:

http://www.acer.co.uk/

Select "Notebooks" then "Aspire 6530"

The 6530G 704G25Bn (part number of LX.AUS0X.142) comes with a 250Gb hard drive (hence the "25" in the number 704G25Bn).

The 6530G 704G32Bn (part number of LX.AUS0X.213) comes with a 320Gb hard drive (hence the "32" in the number 704G32Bn).

So the model Tesco are selling is the 250Gb model, and looking round the web this seems to come with a 1366x768 resolution display.

In fact I am not convinced any of these 6530G models come with a 1080 display, they only use 1080 when output to a 1080 TV.

See this Q & A

http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_6530G_Laptop_LX.AUS0X.142/version.asp

Q. rblakemore84: is the screen full hd?

A. SteveF: Its not the 1080p but the resolution is 1366 x 768 so its better than 720p

Q. Moltavia: Hello, Does this output a 1080p display from the HDMI connection when connected to a TV capable of displaying 1080p?

Q. SteveF: Yes it does.

I can't believe this is this cold - even if its not Full HD. £400 for a blu-ray laptop with a ATI 3650 graphics card (better than a nvidia 9300), HDMI out, 4Gb Ram, 250Gb HD etc. Dell want about £600 for this level of spec.

Only let down is the CPU but for this price I ain't complaining! Play.com want £510 for this model, Amazon £500.

Interesting read, the AMD wins over Intel Dual core in every test. May just buy one of these.

You may appreciate a comparison of the other offering from Dixons, gone down to £379.99 from £400

Acer 7720g 17" Blu ray, geforce 9300

If there are any vouchers codes to drop it down more this may be worthy alternate. I purchased this one 8 weeks ago and is perfect as new althought it is labelled as refurb, I couldnt see why.

laptop code gets 4% off = £15 cost £365
#28
Just a shame the 3650 can't output the FULL-HD soundtracks over HDMI, any lossless formats it will downsample to Stereo :(

Otherwise I think it can only output standard dolby at 5.1

Good onboard graphics for a laptop however.

That report was from 2005, when AMD trully did win all the wars, they brought the fight to Intel and intel acted fast. Recently Intel have pulled ahead again (as AMD were preoccupied with ATI and producing REAL quad core CPUs) - current Intel Multi-core CPUs are better than the AMD equivalent, but they are both very good processors, so there would not be any reason NOT to buy this laptop purely because it is AMD.

I wouldn't buy because it is ACER - they've never made a quality laptop in my eyes, I know this is cheap; but I would want something that will last.

Completely out of date and refers to desktop processors, not mobile processors - since the introduction of the Pentium-m processors Intel have dominated the mobile market and once they took these to the desktop market with the Core Duos they've beaten AMD there as well.

You have to be very careful with anything that badges itself as full HD as Acer aren't alone this, Sony badge their laptops as full HD as well even when they don't have a 1080p display and their TV's (or someone else's) are also listed as full HD when the resolution is 1366x768. The justification is that they can take a 1080p input and downsample it to the panel's lower resolution.

cracking deal
#31
This is a good laptop, only things of concern are limited cache and fact people never seem to rate Acer. If I hadn't bought a laptop 4 months ago I'd be going for this though.

The graphics card is mid range (good for a laptop - it can play Crysis on low and prob medium settings) and its all backed up with a blu-ray player. Excellent value.
#32
I wouldnt be put off by the brand name from my personal experience. Ive bought two Acers in the past 3 months and the build quality is excellent, ive had the 5920g and the 6920g, both are fantastic laptops, in fact i prefer the 5920g...
#33
Well on the acer website it does actually say can have the cine crystal display and not crystalbrite - so will actually have to see what it says on the box when I collect mon! still not sure if I should keep if only crystalbrite display though! dilemma!!
#34
Hot, just what i was looking for to replace my main pc now i have a qnap. Ordered cheers
#35
Bought one for partners Sister, she gave me a budget of £400 so it just squeezed in. I have bought 3 Acer Laptops in the past for customers and all are still working fine so far. The specs are very good with the Turion X2 the only weakness although it is dual core and a very good processor, it's just that an Intel would be preferable but obviously more expensive. All in all a great Laptop with a great selection of ports and a Blue Ray player thrown in. Nearly bought one for myself, also got 3% cashback from Topcashback, so roughly £12. Added heat and rep, thanks for finding this and making my day easy.

That is the old dual cores "Pentium D" , "Core 2 Duo" are superior to amd processors
#37
I bought a Sony laptop less than a year ago that matched this spec for 3 times this price so this is a great deal, graphics aren't half bad and I've seen similar laptops that are more expensive without a blu-ray drive. Just bought one using quidco, got £10 off.
#38
Ordered one of these!!

I will not be accepting it if it doesnt say cinecrystal on the box when I collect. Hopefully it will, because in that case £400 is a steal for that spec.
#39
This model does use the CineCrystal LCD for those who are worried/wondering.
#40
After 12 months of srimping and saving umming and ahhing !! I've bought this laptop....Thanks for the post.

What isCineCrystal LCD btw?
