And you think this is a good deal?
Not for me!

how come?

Acer are the equivalent of the 'value' range at Tescos.
This simply doesn't appear to be a good deal
I would far rather buy a Toshiba of similar spec for the same budget.

Great deal for spec. Google the full spec and also have a look on youtube. Ordered one myself earlier in the week after being stuffed by a laptopsdirect misprint on their website (priced it at 392 instead of 649 and as usual they said out of stock and cancelled the order!). Hopefully will arrive shortly.

It's the dedicated graphics which bumps the price up. There are loads of cheap run of the mill laptops out there with integrated graphics which don't cut it at all.

I appreciate that, and if this were brand new and fitted with a centrino 2 CPU, it would be better but this is refurbished.
I bought my Dell XPS M1530 with a bigger spec that this a year ago for only £100 more and it would eat this Acer on performance. Acer spares are also less available, thei reliability is still not up to the main manufacturers.
Whatever - this is a good price compared to its retail price but not for me.

Dell XPS M1530 starts at 649 now and it's 230 to add a blu ray drive, also the 8600 gt is pritty much the same as the ati 3650.

I'll second that. Add on the 16" screen and the star trek style media interface and this comes up trumps for me.

Bargain if you need that kind of spec. Hot.

That has to be the most stupid comment of the day! Acer has seen rapid growth with market share out pacing Dell, Tosh, HP while still producing high end systems such as this gem stone notebook. These Gem Stone notebooks were over £1k at launch with the 16" version. Not a budget machine in any measure.

Have to say this looks like a good deal if you can get it. These were £600 back in November for the same spec.
I would be wary of a refurb from PC world though. If it breaks down, it is a mare trying to get them to fix it. Awful company.

Totally agree. A few years ago Acer had some overheating problems with their dirt cheap range laptops. Usually this was when people were blocking the air vents. Dead motherboards all over the place. If you spent that little bit more, however, the designs were suited to those who didn't look after their laptops ;-)

Acer are a good brand!

Very Good Deal!!
You get a 12 month warranty with this, even though its a refurb.
So the same aftercare as a new one!!
Voted hot!!
If i had a spare £460, i'd snap one up!!

The same laptop on Dixons, same price minus £9.20 with FEB2 code (till today) makes it £450.79 with free delivery

Bought one . Thanks for the heads up xfish, saved another £10! Bit wary of the fact that it's refurbished, and have just realised Dixons doesn't supply it with a 12 month warranty yet PC World do? Strange considering they're the same company...unless I'm too blind to see it.

The steal for me was dedicated graphics at 512mb, Blu-Ray, 16" screen and it's decent look.

They say Manufacturers warranty included. I bought one recon laptop from Dixons not so long ago and it had 12 mth warranty.

My one is on route and hopefully arriving on Monday. Will post from my new toy then. Currently using a FSC M3438G so lets see how this new one compares to it.

good laptop, but £550 brand new so not cheap enough for refurb

I think a saving of £100 for a refurb is a good saving.

Woa went down right cold last night. I don't see the big deal why people are voting it cold, is it purely because of the make? There's a Sony Vaio on here for over £700 with near enough the same specs, even the graphics card is the same yet it's hot purely because it's a 'Sony'. Oh well, I've been searching for a decent spec system at a a decent price and at least I think I've got a good deal.

You got your laptop yet mattsearle?

Also this laptop at £600 was posted 3 months ago and had full heat: http://hotukdeals.com/item/269417/acer-6920g-laptop-radeon-hd-3650-gr/

Not too shabby!

Still waiting! It's about 5min down the road in the DHL depot in borehamwood. How frustrating when it's been sitting there all weekend.
#23
Laptop arrived last night. Never expect a quick delivery from DHL! Great laptop looks new not refurb. Has all original acer software/stickers etc. Any problems and i'll post.

Laptop finally arrived today. DHL are an awful company! Claimed the day before that they 'attempted' to deliver and they left a card...I was in all day waiting for it suprise surprise. Had to use PCdecrapifier to get rid of all the junk that comes with it. Just need to get CAD on there and buy a Blu-Ray DVD to test it out ;)

Hi all, I bought this laptop in part due to this thread and other reviews. It is amazing value at the price (it has now gone down to £439.99).

It may be a refurb, but looks good as new! I was looking for 512MB dedicated graphics and decent processor ram etc and thought I would need to pay more than £800, but this proved me wrong, then the blu ray, fingerprint scanner, touch controls are all just little extras that turn a reliable functional thing in to a gadget you feel attached to!

I bought crysis (£10 instore in HMV sale - also a bit of a deal) and it works! Obviously not on Max settings but really really good looking.

All this with the protection of one years warranty (unlike a secondhand laptop say) - if you are looking for a laptop around this price range, don't think, buy it!
