Completely overpriced for the specs. The graphics are rubbish. You can get better specs for less at Dell!

I had this laptop and the I thought the specs where good for the money? 9600M GT? C2D T6400?
#7
Also this played L4D with no problems at all, I was even playing Crysis on this thing with setting low/medium with no problems.
#8
Excellent laptop for that price. Search the internet, this has pretty much unanimous top reviews.

Not sure why ReflexReact above thinks this is a poor deal ?????
#9
what lets this laptop down is the fact that it's an Acer

Utter Crap!
#10
I have this laptop, it's great for the price and has a decent GFX card which is as good as if not better than what you get with the studio 15. It has run everything i've tried so far. I don't know what the guy complaining about the gfx is talking about.

For the money it's great and Acer do really cheap warranties. My last laptop was acer too and their customer service has always been great for me
#11
Hey i have one.Love it to bits.Plays Bioshock/Sims 3 on high and even keeps up the frame rate! ( I also payed more than the price shown) Grab it while you can :D

Good Machine
Good Specs

Next best after my posting for 6935G model at Currys for £335....+ Quidco
#13
Heat added. This looks a good deal.

This is eligible for the free Windows 7 upgrade

Good price.

I'd be wary about the fact its an Acer, but I've heard their build quality is improving. Also, 3.4kg seems very heavy for its size (almost a kilo more than my Dell Studio 15) but I guess this is aimed as more of a desktop replacement.

Read my recent posts on that matter. They need to be cheap because they will try and charge you for the repair. When I say 'They' I mean the company they outsource too 'InfoTeam'.
I would not want to claim on a warranty with Acer ever again.

That said the specs at this price look superb I am interested to see what Dell has better GFX than this at the same price because I just specced a Dell for my parents and the GFX weren't even close to this..
#16
This is definitely hot. In comparison, the Sony Vaio NS30 with a T4220 processor, also less RAM, costs exactly the same (£449) from play.com, and is only a 15.4" screen with shared memory, although it is lighter (2.9kg).

Granted, you can't really compare a Sony with an Acer, but the better processor, RAM, and graphics card makes it better. Also the Acer 2 year warranty extension for ridiculously cheap prices once in a while makes this a pretty good buy.

I totally agree. Those people that big up DELL products, and deals, conveniently ignore the £150 or more you'd have to pay for the extended warranty!

You may well need the warranty with Acer, so I suppose cheaper the better!

I only thought my Acer experience was a bit poor, but since reading experiences on here, I now feel I got away lucky with only one of two machines being a dud!

When does anyone BIG up Dell?

I. and others might big up the PRICE of Dell offers as found on here, but although I have been pretty lucky with 2 Dell machines, I would call it exactly that - LUCKY! Don't think many people think there is anything special about them, just made of the same basic level of tacky stuff that everyone else uses in budget priced machines!

I have been unluckier with Acer, but if the price was really good, and it fitted my wants and needs I may well go for it, although with desktops, which I would normally be looking to tweak a bit and add gear to, you are stuck with not being able to open them up without killing the warranty, unlike with Dell.

Fantastic price i just paid 2 week ago at comet fore 6935g 650 £ it has a bluray drive extra and 320gb

I wished i waited now lol

Stile a fantastic laptop im writing with it now and it play almost all games that i have tried
#21
dont understand why this is a crap price, personally i think its a great spec, especially if its elegible for a win 7 upgrade. decent processor, v. decent graphics card considering the price, hdmi out, 4gb ram, and wireless n. i think you'd be pretty hard pushed to find those specs for less than 500 with any other manufacturer
#22
nice find, heat added.

lol, what a glowing, ignorant moron you are Sir
graphics are indisputably fantastic for a sub £500 laptop... damn it... you are going to make me have to review this laptop now

the thing that gets me peeved about comments like this is that they are 1)backed up by 0 facts, 0 experience and an IQ of near 0... and 2) they are made with such confident authority that some less tech savvy people may believe such militant disinformant fanboys as yourself.

What is your experience with IT? when did you use this laptop and compare it to others? or what in depth reviews have you read? list the Dell laptop specs and price that beats this? .. are you starting to feel like a fool yet? ...read on :whistling: I suspect your experience runs as deep as watching copious amounts of Dell advertising campaigns.

To add a little balance, and silence the Acer naysayers, brand snobs, fanboys and other such fools who are easily parted with their parents cash.......

...my experience and my review of this laptop...

My experience: I have worked in it for 15 years, helpdesk... then tech support, then networks and finaly worked my way to the position of network consultant.
The Laptop: On choosing my new laptop i decided to read lots of reviews and get some recommendations... colleagues recommended this laptop and it has done very well in benchmarks and online reviews. I can honestly say that when i bought it several months ago it was clearly the best value for money by a long way. It runs FSX on surprisingly high settings (and also on 2 monitors),FS2004 on full settings (on laptop screen)... i can play the latest resident evil, COD4 runs nice too- this is all i have played so far ...
i regularly use it to play full HD 1080p video files through my HDTV and it is perfectly smooth (no bluray drive tho) . This laptop completely exceeded my expectations in performance and quality. The 4gb RAM seems to run photoshop perfectly.
I have had no issues at all with the laptop, neither has my brother who owns the same or 2 of my work friends who also own this machine. On the other hand i know plenty of folk with Apples and Dells who have had lots of probs and have paid substantially more for the privilege ;-)
I cant comment on Acer customer support as i have had no problems but admittedly Apple and Dell do have superb support in my experience (at least from a business perspective) and i appreciate some people find value in such attentive assistance.

People can talk down acer all they like, its their loss. IMO its just FOOLISH brand snobbery, my little Acer has out performed my friends Dells Apple Sonys etc in every respect and still is. And i think it looks a lot nicer too.

Dont be put of by the silly comments above, they are BS. Loads of frugal techies buy Acer... and with good reason. if this laptop is what you are looking for spec-wise, you want a good all-rounder and you dont care too much about running full settings in the latest dx10 games (if you do; raise your budget to £1200)... go for it! - i *thoroughly* recommend it and have done to friends and family.

Happy gaming (and less interesting stuff!)

Wow i cant believe people are complaining!!!

This is a fantastic laptop! ive had mine for 9 months and payed close to £600 for it. 9 Months ago this was a fantastic price for the kit. its still alive aswell.....

Pros- Fantastic GFX card. I installed Xp on mine and can play crysis (using a modded launcher to play with DX10 settings) almost all settings on max and looks fantastic. 4GB ram also fantastic and looks beautiful, its also light for whats under the hood.

Cons- Processor feels kind of slow but for a lappy at this price i shouldnt complain, i guess im used to the speed of an i7, Keyboard feels flimsy, the whole thing bends slighty when pushing a key, Has fantastic sound system 5.1 virtual with an excellent sub (mine sub lasted about a month so go easy...) Lack of drivers/utilities disc, drivers website was a bombsite but has been updated since, still far from helpful but there are 3rd party sites dedicated for helping people like me find drivers for such things

Great laptop and if you were to buy a sony or such equivelent youd be looking at about 800+ (more likley 1k but im sure someone will correct me)

Lol An Acer better than a Sony, Dell and Apple? I suppose we can dream now and again! The reality though is very different. Its not brand snobbery its being realistic in that you get what you pay for. Acer's are cheap and cheerful, the build quality is nowhere near that of Sony, Dell or Apple and the price reflects that.

Those who own an Acer are not going to like hearing posts like mine (see above!) but cold hard facts cannot be ignored.

Let the buyer beware!
#26
where do you get the extra warranty from is it from acer or argos
#27
Good laptop, have bought 15 Acers over the last 3 years for customers and none have stopped working yet. What else can I say. They seem to be reliable enough from my standpoint.
#28
how do you get the extra warranty can anyone point me to it

I've bought acer laptop for two years, everything ran well.

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/453897/acer-advantage-silver-bundle-2-year?p=5929370

Google search...http://www.google.co.uk/products?q=Acer+AcerAdvantage+17+notebook+warranty&hl=en

If you can afford it i would try & get a 3 year warranty, Because acer alway's includes you're first year's manufacturers warranty in on the extended warranty pack's.So if you buy the 2 year pack ,you're only getting a 1 extra year's warranty ontop of the manufacturers warranty.
There is no rush for you to buy a extended warranty because you have a year to buy a warranty pack.Just don't leave it till last minute,I sent mine off 3 weeks ago & i still ain't recieved my warranty certificate via email yet?
Hope this helps....
p.s.. Add this code.... COMPFD .... for free delivery on laptops over £350 @ argos.... hot for me

Cheers.
Argos are sold out :-( Hope they get more soon.

Fantastic GFX card & a great machine at this price, the ATI card that Dell try and fob you off with at this price is not in the same league and won't play anything on half decent settings.
#36
Out of stock!
#37
Anyone else got any views on this ?
#38
surely this hsould be expired since are argos were out of stock a long time ago and dont take any pre orders. The only thing they have is the email notification of stock. But yeah apart from that great laptop paid £588 back in early february still works fine.
#39
ive got this laptop, slightly different version with a blu ray drive, its a cracking machine, just installed windows 7 64 bit, sound and screen are great, build quality so far is excellent
#40
I was going to order this but was gutted that it's sold out.
I've been looking around the shops for an alternative a this price and nothing comes close!!
