No - The Amazon one lacks a Blu-Ray drive - Even if you never use it, it's still worth a pop on eBay.

£474.99 using the 5% code, or £472.62 when using QuidCo - Hot!

(Friend has this laptop - very nice - Even got a fingerprint reader)

I just seen this in PC world at the wekend for £599 so with pricematch should get another tenner off, cheers mate

PC World don't price-match online retailers anymore fwiw.
#6
why is this deal getting colder without comment? seems a very good deal to me
#7
Damn currency exchange :( I hate play for it.

400 quid = 650 euros according to them

650 = 500+ quid.

seems an excellent deal to me. £475 delivered with RAC code plus quidco
Specifications according to acer website here
Many thanks for sharing

Excellent deal, its just been reduced further from £499.99 to just £479.99 delivered !

I got a 7720 from pc world for £380, same spec as far as I can see, but with a 17" screen. Oh, no finger print reader, that must cover the £100 difference :?
#11
Looks like there is more than one model with that part number according to Acer:

http://www.acer.co.uk/acer/product.do?link=oln23g.redirect&changedAlts=&kcond5e.c2att92=122&CRC=1164770960

If you look at the Display information it says:
# 16" WUXGA (Full HD), ... 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, ... or,
# 16" WXGA (HD) 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, ...

So, does anybody know if this is the WXGA HD screen or the WUXGA Full HD screen?

I have this laptop

Bought it a few months ago when it was £550.

Anywa, BRILLIANT Laptop. Quiet as a mouse, even when playing Crysis. Blu-rays look FANTASTIC on it.

Most games out now run fine on high resolutions at 1024*768.

Running at the computers full resolution of 1366 * 768, things like crysis run at about 25 - 45 fps on high, and even smoother on medium.

Brilliant for the price.

Oh, and for above, max resolution on the screen is 1366*768. But it does have HDMI and VGA output aswell
#13
There is surely no way that Crysis can run on high at any resolution let alone the native resolution on a 9300gs? I would expect 25 fps max on low settings and a lower resolution?
#14
Got a similar spec (with ati mobility 3650HD)

Cannot fault the laptop and is a great alrounder. HOT deal.

Be warned tho the pre loaded ACER software to play blu-rays (as far as I know you cannot play blu-rays on Windows media player yet due to no codec support) is a bit well naff, I had a botched software update recently which now means the machine just gives me a black screen and refuses to even look for an available update - apparetnly its quite a common problem.

I am not too pc savvy and think its becuase I added windows 7 (64bit) as a partioned operating system ans now the auto update refuses to work as it sees a 64bit os on the drive...I dunno!!

anyway my point being the blu-ray playing software isnt the best -its functional if a bit slow, so if your thinking of using this alot to lpay blu-rays on screen or via the hdmi out (to a full hd scren for example) you may want to factor in the cost of say powerdvd ultra 9 or equivalent.
#15
It's not for me, but that's still a hot deal. Heat added.

btw: A 9300gs is a very low entry level graphics card; Don't expect to be playing many games on it (although I expect it will be more than capable of playing Blu Ray movies).

My thoughts exactly.
This sounds like a fantastic laptop for this price, but can you seriously run Crysis on it ?

Voted hot. I want one !

For anyone buying and wanting to hook up to TV - I made this post about the very similar 6920g

£455.99 (With RAC Code) + £23.99 back from QuidCo make this an impressive £431.99 in the end - Compare that to my previous mid-range laptop, the HP 6735s and you get a very good choice

Want to play games or watch Blu-Ray movies? Go for this.

Want more portability (slightly) with a smaller screen and a longer battery? Go for the HP.
#19
Have just ordered this  one question though, my current laptop has a desktop resolution of 1280x800, this one has 1366x786, is this lower ?? or can you change it to say 1400x900 etc ??

Forgive the newbie question but I cant get my head round it :-D
#20
this is a bargain for the price, especially with RAC and quidco. paid £600 last year for my 5290g from comet with the HD-DVD drive etc. V.hot!!
#21
what would you go for?
this laptop advertised in this post
or this one?? http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/370076/hp-6735s-laptop-ebuyer-2-1ghz-4gb-3
#22
Is it any better than this one? http://www.ebuyer.com/product/158885/bundles
#23
Is the RAC 5% off Quidco still valid? Does anyone have a link for it please? I can't find it.
#24
So tempted to get this.

Bit naive but I know this says it has Wi-Fi - does a computer either have Wi-Fi or it doesn't or are there different types? I need to be able to use this in the hotel on holiday in the US - the hotel does have Wi-Fi.

Thanks,

Chris

This is the spec from the acer site

Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5800 (2.0GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache), 16" WXGA Acer CineBrite™ TFT LCD, 1*2GB & 1*1GB RAM, 250GB 5400rpm Hard Disk Drive, 1X Blu-ray Disc™/DVD-Super Multi double-layer drive, NVIDIA® GeForce® 9300M GS - 256MB VRAM, Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 5100/5300 (dual-band quad-mode 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N) Wi-Fi, 6 cell Li-ion Battery, 5-in-1 card reader (SD™, MMC, MS, MS PRO, xD), 0.3 MP Crystal Eye Webcam, Acer Bio-Protection fingerprint solution, McAfee® Internet Security Suite 60 Day Trial

If WXGA is true it's 720p not full HD - but blu-ray and a decent graphics card make this a good price (about £35 cheaper than elsewhere)
#26
For all those saying this wont play crysis, i didnt notice it was a slightly different machine. I have the one with an ATI Radeon HD 3650, and it runs great.

Chris AFAIK it either has WiFi or it doesn't. There are different types of wireless connectivity, a b and g I think, but as long as you have one of them you will be able to connect to a wireless network.

Not quite true - but rather than give a long-winded technical explanation I will give a *******ized version.

If it's got WiFi, it'll either be "G" or "N" (or at least any new bit of kit will be) - If it's G it'll work fine with anything, if it's N it works fine with G, but usually has a better antenna which gives an ever-so-slight improvement on range if used with G kit. If you use it with N kit then you get a much better range / speed etc.

EDIT - So yes it will work.

My friend has this laptop and i'm really really impressed with it - Just wish it had Bluetooth (nothing DX can't solve - it's just annoying that Acer only put the $2 dongle in the more expensive models :()

It did'nt @ 129£ but Im a sucker for warranties :( It was in fairness on offer (4yrs for the price of 3), but I know its a waste of cash.

Just wondering, its says in regards my warranty on the form

1 year standard warranty
4yr premium blah blah blah.,

Does that mean I get 5yrs or do the first year and the 4yr collide?

They collide - you get 4 years.

If your a sucker for warranties then look around - you can get them cheaper from a 3rd party. The fact they make a profit overall should probably tell you it's not worth it, though...

i have had this laptop for 3 months now which i got with a carphone warehouse t mobile deal free - have to say i was never very fond of acer before now but they certainly got their act together - this laptop is a really nice piece of kit for the price and yes it does have bluetooth as i use it to connect to my microsoft bluetooth elite keyboard and mouse, it does play crysis in 1024 as said earlier even with the 9300 card and i can say i have noproblem with the acer blu-ray software, powerdvd is availalbe free if you just know where to look for it, only problem i have had so far is i cant get sound to come from headphonesjack but im thinking this may just be a setting somewhere - overall a very good laptop and well impressed :)
#39
Not all of the 6930's have Bluetoooth - my friend has this model but it doesn't have Bluetooth (but the same spec).
#40
I found another 6930, lower spec but lower price too. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/159426
